Lesson Three - Sixth Years
The Doctor entered the underground classroom with a small grunt of annoyance as he lugged his cargo down the stairs alongside him. The really annoying thing about what he was carrying was that they resisted all forms of magic that wasn't that of their masters. Since none of them had masters they were just resistant to all magic. Including his own levitation charms. Grunting, he depositioned a dozen staves onto his desk at the front of the classroom,
"Sorry I'm late..." he said with a moan, "You wouldn't believe how heavy oak is..."
Coughing slightly to try and regain focus, he gestured to the staves,
"As rune-users you will need a stave. They are instruments for channelling magic but are much more limited in their uses than wands. So... why do we use them?"

Terry made his way to Ancient Runes class and noticed the Doctor had arrived late as well so Terry went and took a seat. Terry could see these pieces of wood that the Doctor had on his desk and when he asked why they used them Terry really had no idea. They were like pieces of wood to him.
