Duelling Practice - Page 2 Empty Re: Duelling Practice

So this is what defeat feels like, Alys thought as she hit the ground a second time, on her knees once again. It could have been worse, a voice whispered inside her. You could have landed on your back or stomach. This isn't so much different than sitting.

Sitting and being in a lot of pain. And no wonder, the amount of times she had hit the floor, with force.

When Tarragon came over to her and held out her wand, she had meant to say thanks as a reflex. Or maybe she had meant to growl at him like the Sweeney did at her students. But all that really came out of her parted lips of a small cry of pain.

"I... I'm fine," the witch managed through gritted teeth as she tried to move, only to realize her ankle hurt worse than she had thought at first. Had she sprained it in the last fall? She tried to get to up yet again but was only rewarded with a shooting pain up her leg.

"Ouch!" the blonde gasped then bit her lip, trying not to show how badly her ankle was hurting.

Tarragon looked on helplessly as Alys tried to get to her feet on her own and winced in pain when on them. He quickly ducked under her arm and held as much of her weight off the foot as possible. They headed to the wall slowly.

"I'm so sorry, Alys." He said, emotions running high as her began to shake from fear of what he had done. "I really am. I told you this wasn't a good idea, didn't I?!"

He allowed for her to lean her weight on the wall, before sinking down it himself, his head in his hands, the trembling getting more vicious with the time passing. He'd caused his best friend pain, and he could never forgive himself for it, even if it was unintentional.

"Its fine really..." the witch gaped out, leaning against the wall as he sunk to the ground against it. He must be more tired than he had made out earlier. "Not... one of those weepy girls who pout at losing," she attempted to joke, scanning the faces of everyone who had been watching the duel. She spotted Zara straight away, and in a t shirt that said "Team Alys" no less - and smiled instantly. Zara often had that affect on her. There was also Lukas but the witch put a mental block there. And beside that block was Lehrer Krulle too. The witch wondered how long they'd all been watching.

Waving at Zara, the witch motioned for her to come over. It looked like Tarragon would be needing some help too. "Well played, Herr Zeverai," she said to Tarragon, trying to keep her voice even. "Thank you for dueling me, I learned a lot."

Upon Alys' beckon, Zara ran to her side, leaving the unfamiliar teacher and wizard behind. She was amazed at the level of talent both of her peers possesed, her admiration shining in her eyes as she reached her friend.

"Holy Herbert, that was awesome," she exclaimed to both of them before turning her attention back to Alys.

"Are you okay? Let me help you to the infirmary."

"You got it," Alys grinned through the pain. The more the witch felt it, the more she was sure it was only a sprained ankle and she knew the medic could fix that with a flick of his wand. "That really was a bit of a Herbert, wasn't it?"

Looking down at Tarragon, she said "I don't believe you've had the pleasure properly, this is Zara Stoudt, the person I stay cooped up with up in my dorms half the time."

"Don't let her lie to you and say that she likes it. I hold her hostage and torture her with my wit." She smiled and extended a hand to the sitting boy.

"Zara. I believe I've seen you arround before."

Jadzia walked over to the exhausted, and slightly hurt, students. In all respects, she was impressed with their duel. It was quite apparent they still had a lot to learn but not bad for two first years.

"Mr. Zeverai, Ms. Diedrich, well played." Jadzia said, nodding at them and assessing their injuries. Nothing seemed life threatening and shouldn't result in more then a quick trip to the infirmary.

"I see that you've both seem to have mastered the Impediment jinx from class. I trust that it won't be used outside of this arena or class in normal circumstances."

"Of course not, Professor," Alys answered earnestly and then blushed at the hint of praise in the Lehrer's voice. "We were only practicing to get better at dueling, we would never fight each other out of spite." The witch looked at Tarragon and Zara, willing them to confirm her statement.

"We'll be sure to only duel in the Arena or in class," she added humbly. She may have lost but she now knew she was not an easy target. At least she had managed to hold her own for a bit. The rest, Alys knew, would come with practice. And the girl had never been afraid of hard work.

Tarragon stood up and shook Zara's hand.

"Nice to finally put a name to a face, Zara!" He smiled at her before turning to the Lehrer. "Thank you Lehrer Krulle, and you can trust that it won't be happening again, Fraulien Diederich is too much of a soft petal to be duelling with."

He held back a laugh, he knew he wouldn't hear the end of that one for a while. He ducked his head under Alys' arm once more.

"Time to get you to the hospital before anything else happens to either one of us!" He said winking at her.

Such a poor showcase, Lukas thought. There was no proper strategy to the whole duel. having broken Tarry's ribs he knew Tarry wasn't a strong boy but the fact that he knew such advanced spells at just the age of eleven intrigued him. Making a mental note to talk to his head of house about it.

He left just as quietly he had come.

Alys scolded generously at the smart comment, managing to dig an elbow into his side even as she leaned on his for support. Her blue eyes narrowed as she pursed her lips and looked at Zara, refusing to speak to him until he apologized.

"All boys are complete Herberts," she said pointedly to Zara, noticing Lukas slink out of the Arena. "Complete and utter Herberts!"

Zara grabbed Alys' other arm and pulled it around her shoulder. She noticed, out of the corner of her eye, the other student leave just as quietly as he came. She was only around him for a short while, but there was something about him that she didn't like.

"Herberts indeed, my dear Alys," she said dramatically. "Huge Herberts."
