Lesson One - Second Years Empty Lesson One - Second Years

Post by Briony Romain Thu Feb 16, 2012 6:21 am

Briony walked into her classroom after a long and blissful holiday away with her husband in Venice, to make up for his awful choice in venue for the prior get away to America and a place called 'Disneyland'.

Sitting down at her desk Briony steepled her fingers and looked over the rows of empty desks, hoping that this year the pupils would continue on the good progress that they had made Briony sighed softly.

Patiently she waited for the students to arrive.

Lesson One - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Second Years

Walking down the hallway, she was excited to learn more about dueling. Ever since the attack, she found herself wanting to learn how to defend herself and protect others. During the break, when she wasn't spending time with Victoria, or going to celebrations with other families, she found herself surrounded by piles of books reading about spells that could one day be used against danger.

Opening the doors of the classroom, she looked around and saw that no one had arrived yet. She bowed her head respectably towards the Headmistress and took the seat in the front row. She didn't want any distractions and found herself yearning to learn more.

Lesson One - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Second Years

Salina rounded the corner and onto the hallway that Duelling was on. She smiled as she walked, her mind distracted from more depressing things. She was excited for many things this year, and most definitely one of these was learning more about duelling. Salina hadn't done much else during the holidays other than read about the different spells that were used in duelling.

As she entered the class, she spotted only one other girl in there. A Slytherin, and when she saw her face, she smiled. It was Tess. Deciding to be polite, Salina walked over and sat down next to Tess, a small smile sent the Slytherin girls way. "'allo Tess. I wanted to thank you, for zat day zat you know. I theenk I would 'ave been out zere for 'ours eef you 'ad not come."

Airen entered the classroom smiling softly. He'd had an excellent summer, and was glad to see that not many casualties were suffered at the end of term. He pushed that night aside and focused on being happy about what he had in life. He sat down toward the front. He noticed Tess and Salina there too. He knew Salina from the S.S; he thought Tess was in it, but he wasn't sure. The end of term ball made things blurry.

He took out his quill and ink and got ready for a new year.

Lesson One - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Second Years

Post by Victoria Rossmund Thu Feb 16, 2012 3:10 pm

Victoria was nervous for the first Dueling class. She hadn't seen the need for the class last year until the battle. She hadn't realized how exposed she was, not having learned dueling spells before, and wanted desperately to change that.

Seeing the students filing in quietly she took the seat on the other side of Tess. She seemed occupied with talking to Salina, so Victoria took out her book for the class and a few others she had found in Diagon Alley about dueling.

She had never been one to take things lying down and the battle had been the last straw. From now on she was going to study her butt off to be as powerful as possible.

She smiled seeing Salina there and blushed hearing her say thank you. She didn't want to remember, after all Corinne was still in a coma and so she felt she did nothing.

"It's nothing...just...I hope she gets better" she murmured.

Seeing Victoria beside her she nudged her and smiled.

"She helped me too." she commented.

Post by Haley Vilde Smith Thu Feb 16, 2012 7:21 pm

Haley walked slently into the duelling classroom. This year was gong to be different. She wouldn't use much time on friends at all, really. She would only work and work and work until she was so powerful she could duel against the headmistress herself.

The summer had changed Haley. She was no longer what she once had been. She was still kind, she still cared. But her face barely betrayed emotions. Losing her parents in Germany had changed her abitions. She wanted to hurt people now.

So this class was a class she'd use most carefully, and therefore she sat down in the front, very ready to start the class.

Briony walked over to the door and shut it, processing to take out a cigarette she lit it with a small smile and took a puff, sighing and now relaxed she sat back down at her desk and tapped the board so that the words:

"Serpent Sortia"

Appeared there.

Letting the cigarette hang limply in her hand Briony addressed the class.

"Greetings students, I hope you had an enjoyable time off this summer holiday, but now it's back to hard work."

Briony gestured at the board and asked: "Anyone for any idea what this spell does, and an advantage or disadvantage of this spell?"

Haley raised her hand.

"It shoots out a snake," Haley said with a small smile.

Haley knew this spell because she loved everything that had to do with serpents or reptiles. But she had to think out why it would be an advantage or disadvantage.

"Well, snakes scares people, and scared people make sharp moves, and snakes attack when feeling threatened. And a disadvantage would be if the snake turned on you. Because you shoot out a magical, yet thinking snake. It's not for you to control," Haley said calmly.

She wasn't absolutely sure about it, but it was better than nothing.

Briony called on Haley to answer the question, she seemed to be very much interested in duelling now and she was glad of that, the students have to be enthused to take the class seriously.

The answer that she gave was a very good answer, it was exactly what she had been thinking of herself.

"That's a very good answer Haley, the snake is dangerous of it's own accord and often can be used as a distraction when fighting, however like you said, the snake doesn't have to respond to your whims and you don't always have time to control it in a battle."

Taking another drag from the cigarette and blowing out a smoke ring Briony said: "10 points to Hufflepuff."

Briony flicked her wand and activated a seal on the floor, out of which a training dummy appeared and she stood up, facing the training dummy and pointed her wand at it.

"It is done like so."

With a sharp flick outward Briony muttered: "Serpent sortia!" and a large python, like Medusa her snake, appeared out of her wand tip and hit the dummy. Briony then muttered another incatation to get rid of it.

"Now one at a time perform the spell."

Post by Victoria Rossmund Sat Feb 18, 2012 6:51 am

Part of Victoria wanted to wait and see how other students did with the spell, since it was her first time in this class. But her Gryffindor side won out, saying that this was dueling after all. Waiting could get you killed.

So she took her place opposite the dummy and, mimicking Professor Romain's movements she said, "Serpensortia."

She was surprised to see a black cobra materialize in front of her and attack the dummy. It took a few seconds for her to get over her surprise, and notice that the snake was looking at her, having done its job and now looking for something else to...play with.

She gulped and backed away, just realizing that she didn't know how to get rid of it. Stupid Gryffindor!

Lesson One - Second Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Second Years

Post by Tess McCartney Sat Feb 18, 2012 7:55 am

Well it looks like someone beat you to the punch she thought amused.

The spell was a fascinating one, especially because she had a fascination with snakes.

Seeing Headmistress Romaine perform the spell, well it wash enchanting especially because it was performed as if it was nothing, but the snake was magnificent.

She looked around and she raised her hand wanting to perform the spell herself.

Once getting the signal, she took out her want and looked at the dummy.

Don't you dare mess up! You've seen father do this during his lessons to you. Don't mess up please! her mind begged her.

With a flick of her wand she called the spell out.

"Serpent Sortia!"

A wisp appeared out of her wand and soon a snake began to exit. It wasn't large like the Headmistresses', but it was deadly though. It appeared to be a Inland Tapia, most venomous snake in the world. It curled into an "S" at the tip of her wand and soon launched itself into the dummy. It began digging its fangs into the dummy as if it was going to kill it's prey.

She was proud of herself, except she didn't know how to call it back.

"Finite incantum" she murmured, waving her wand towards the snake but it seemed that the snake did not disappear.

Instead it crawled towards her. She didn't know what to do, but she did remember not to show fear. She took a deep breath and leaned down, offering her arm for the snake to crawl onto. The snake was wary and stuck it's tongue out smelling her, soon enough, it slithered up her arm and wrapped the rest of it's body around her waist.

She saw Victoria try to do it as well and it looked great! That is until Victoria looked terrified. Looking down at her snake, it seemed to know it's own creator and did not attack, but rather curled itself more, by wrapping its body around Tess in a non-harming manner.

"Don't be afraid" she told Victoria hoping she remembered.

Briony watched the snake carefully as it came out of the girls wand, she knew that some people were afraid of snakes and she didnt mean for her to get afraid, however, this spell was useful and they needed to learn it.

As soon as she had said the spell Briony moved to counter the snake, however, Tess too performed the spell and Briony waited for her snake to emerge fully too, once it had, Briony flicked her wand and muttered:

'Vipera Evanesca! Vipera Evanesca!'

And both snakes were vanished, smiling slightly, in satisfaction of a job well done Briony raised her eyebrows at the rest of the class.

"Thank you Tess and Victoria for actually DOING the task that I set you, if I was in a bad enough mood I'd take five points from each of you who didn't do the task. However, I will simply give 15 points to Slytherin and 15 points to Gryffindor."

Waving her hand, the door opened and she pointed: "Now get out."
