Lesson 1 first years Empty Lesson 1 first years

Post by Guest Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:09 pm

Richard recently took the position of the Charms professor and did not want to mess it up. Setting up the classroom by putting a feather on each of the desks he then proceeded to look over the textbook to see what exactly needed to be done though he was planning on putting his own style to it.

He had a bucket of candies at the door on a stool so that the students could take some if they so desired for he wanted to break down some of the barriers between himself and the students. He waited for them to arrive with a big smile on his face this was going to be a good year at least he thought it would be.

Tessa walk through the doors, she was smiling when she did. She realized that she smiled a lot, but that was because she wasn't going to let her being blind get her down. And stop her from doing anything that she wanted to.

She then manged to find her way to a desk and sat down.

Walking over to the girl who walked into his classroom thinking that she must be the blind student that he was told about. He only stopped long enough to pick up a few pieces of candy from the bucket at the door.

"Hello there, I am Professor Devante. Would you like some candy?" He asked her gently not trying to sound to excited about it. The truth was he ate a little too much candy himself as was usually always hyper.

She smiled a little bit. " I would love some candy, but what kind is it." Tessa knew that she loved sugar too much. She didn't want to be boucing off the walls later.

" Hello Professor Devante, I am Tessa Grey."

Jaycie walked into the room. This was the most confident she'd felt since she'd gotten to Hogwarts. Charms... sounds good! she thought brightly. She noticed there was a bucket of candy by the door. "Ooh, yum," she whispered, taking a handful of sweets and popping some into her mouth before sitting down at the back of the class and retrieving her things.

Xander was getting tired of the first day introductions to subjects. He just wanted to get down to the magic. He grabbed some candy from the dish near the door and took a seat near the back row. He was getting fed up with meeting new people and just wanted to go talk to Tess.

Opening his bag he took out the class text and set his feet on the desk. Picking up the feather he started twirling it in his hands, waiting for class to start.

"Alright so most of your professors probably did introductions and such today however I do plan on doing introductions but I plan to make it more fun by teaching you a charm at the same time." He smiled at the class.

"Now then does anyone know another name for the levitating charm? When you give the answer state your name and where you are from. Also I want all of you to think of a use that this charm can be used for and again when you state your answer give your name and so on. Once we are done with the introductions we can begin practicing the charm and I know that is why you are all here am I right to learn some magic!" He paced the room while smiling and waiting for the first student to take the bite.

Jaycie raised her hand. "Um, is it Wingardium Leviosa? And there's a famous story about Ronald Weasley using it in a battle against a mountain troll when he was a first year." She spoke timidly; Jay really didn't want to get it wrong. The only reason she knew the story was because she'd heard it from her dad a million times as a kid, and she'd also told it to Jenna to help her get to sleep.

"I'm Jaycie Simple, from Birmingham, by the way," she added softly.

Alcyone huffed as she quickly strode over to the classroom, knowing she was late. Slowly, she pushed open the door and shut it quietly behind her. She ducked her head in shame, feeling an odd fear that she knew she should not worry about at this school.

She quickly moved to a vacant seat and sat down, remaining silent as the Hufflepuff girl spoke.

Xander raised his hand. "Xander Clarke, London. It can also be used to control objects one does not want to touch or wants to send somewhere without people seeing it is them."

He had seen this done many times in the wizarding world. It was a standard spell that people seemed not to really think about. Like auto-pilot.

Tessa rasied her hand.

"Wingardium is a composite word, based on: English to wing meaning "to fly" (e.g. the plane winged skywards arduus (meaning "high, tall, lofty, steep, proudly elevated") or arduum (meaning "steep place, the steepand the common Latin ending -ium. Leviosa probably derives from Latin levo, meaning to "raise, lift up", or levis, meaning light (of weight)Altogether, therefore, the incantation could best be read as "lift up high".

" Tessa Grey, London."

"Wow Tessa," Jaycie breathed as Tessa finished her answer. "Are you sure you shouldn't be in Ravenclaw? You're so smart." She was in awe; wasn't that a Ravenclaw's job? Making all those long, complicated but logical answers? It was pretty cool.

Tessa was smiling, she knew her sister, Salina was rubbing off on her. But she was proud that she was able to give that answer . Gryffindor was where she belonged. Even though she had a sister in Ravenclaw and the other in Hufflepuff.

"Sorry that we did not get to any of the practical work but all your answers were very good. I promise that next lesson it will be mainly practical work. how does that sound to everyone?" He smiled he really enjoyed teaching even though it is his least favorite subject.
