Herbology: Lesson Two: First Years Empty Herbology: Lesson Two: First Years

Lily was so glad to be back teaching, but she missed certain aspects of her vacation. During the week she had gone to collect more Wolfsbane with Professor Valentine to create more potions. The Creature epidemic had worried many wizards and witches, and they felt that they needed to have some precaution in case a students was to ever be attacked.

So now here she was, a week later and excited to start her lessons once more. She liked her first year students, so cute and excited to learn about plants. It made her giddy. Placing the last glove on the desk, she hopped towards her own and sat on her chair, spinning it a few times before relaxing and waiting for her class to arrive.

Xander walked into class, picking up on the professor's infectious attitude. He took his seat near the front of class. Potions had always been his first calling, but after the first Herbology lesson, he was really looking forward to this next lesson.

"How was your weekend, Professor? Do anything exciting?" Xander wasn't used to talking to teachers like they were real people, but he was hoping to do well in this class over the years and figured getting on good terms with her wouldn't hurt.

Tessa was led into the greenhouse by Yasmina. She then sat there and waited for class to start.

Lily was so glad the students were coming in and that they were talking to her. She giggled slightly and smiled wide seeing them trying to introduce themselves.

"Hello Mr. Clark, actually I did!" she said smiling. "I went to collect Wolfsbane around with Professor Valentine. We both tend to work together in certain areas where our passions lie. Because of this, our new lesson was based on all that we collected, simply because of new news that have been in a lot of papers"

She found it charming how he asked about herself, no student had done that and she soon found herself seeing another girl, Gryffindor and new as well. She smiled and looked down at her list to see who she was, for she knew all the names of her students except her.

"Lovely to meet you Anne, I am Lily Del Sol, but call me Professor Lily" she said smiling.

Entering the classroom, he sat himself right beside Xander as usual. He was surprised that he was talking to the Professor, but he said nothing merely looking down at his book. Despite his nonchalant expression, he really enjoyed Professor Del Sol's class because it was cheery and it seemed like she cared about the class.

Lily figured that most students had entered and she began to teach her lesson.

"Speaking about the last lesson, I'd like for you to put on your gloves so we can begin talking about Wolfsbane. I remember clearly how many of you answered the question about Wolfsbane beautifully last time and I'd love for you to have the same enthusiasm this time around"

She didn't have any gloves because she wasn't affected by Wolfsbane and she began to peel off the petals.

"Here are a few facts:there are over 250 species of Aconitum, the most common of which are known as aconite, monkshood, or wolfsbane. These are often used in potions!"

She smiled and looked down at the poisonous flower.

"Can anyone tell me how Wolfsbane got its name?" she asked.

Tessa then raised her hand to anwser the question."It got the name "Wolfsbane" because ancient Germans used it to poison wolves."

Lily smiled brightly and nodded.

"Very good Miss Grey five points. Now if you all might pair up and began to take off the petals of the flowers, I'd like for you to do a dozen and then once o your done, write notes such as the colors and all that so you can do the homework I am going to sadly have to give you"

She was grinning when she got the right answer. Tessa could tell that all of her reading ahead had paid off. The professor told them that they had to pair up. She just sat there and waited for someone to come over to her. Tessa really didn't' want to get up and move because she was still scared that she was going to trip. And she knew that Yas was comfortable.

Xander turned to Luke, his usual partner. It wasn't that he couldn't work with anyone else, he just chose not to. Why bother with other students who he didn't really know, and definitely didn't trust.

"I'll start on the petals. Maybe you can draw us a sketch of it." He knew Luke's would be way better than his and want a drawing of what they were singing, instead of just the textbook pictures.

He started gently pulling off the leaves. They were more delicate than the Shrivelfigs from last class, and it was more of a gentle breaking off from the stem than pealing, but he made good time removing them.

Luke nodded at Xander and took out his notebook. He studied the flower and began to sketch it, it seemed like an easy enough sketch and he began to shade it softly. He wanted to get it to be perfect, as perfect as it could be. He smiled satisfied and began to help Xander finish the petal peeling so they could finish on time.

Lily was so happy seeing her students sketching and peeling so perfectly, but her smile soon dimmed as she noticed the Gryffindor late to class. Oh how she hated taking away points.

"Miss Jordan, you are not only late, but you missed my whole class" she said frowning. "Five points, also, you have detention with me."

Sighing she shook her head and ran her fingers through her hair trying to calm down.

"I will have to give you all homework. I'd like for you to write what is your favorite potion, that holds Wolfsbane as it's ingredient. Class dismissed."
