Lions and Snakes (Kat and Rich)

Richard had been told about the new Head of Gryffindor House and Charms professor and wanted to greet her. Their two houses would be in near constant rivalry but that didn't mean that they had to be. That was why he had a nice bottle of muggle red wine when he knocked on her door. No reason they couldn't be friends right?

Katrina yawned for the fourth time as she bent over the trunk in her office. She had just arrived and discovered that not only was she going to be the new charms professor this year but that she would also become the head of the Gryffindoor House. Kat wasn't a person for making friends easily but she really hoped that this year would change things. She was just putting away the last of her clothing when a knock sounded on her office door. Opening the door she saw a gentleman on the other side. "Can I help you?" she asked him politely

Richard smiled at the woman who'd opened the door and held out a hand, the one that wasn't holding the expensive bottle of wine,

"It is a pleasure to meet you!" Richard said warmly, with only a hint of a german accent, "My name is Richard Romain and I'm the Head of Slytherin."

He shrugged a little, smirking a little,

"With the rivalry between our houses we'll be seeing a lot of each other so I just thought we'd best meet as friends before our students plot us against each other."

Kat was shocked by the warm reception that she had recieved from the head of Slytherin. She was very familar with the inter-house rivalries of Hogwarts, having been part of them when she attended school. She shook Richard's hand firmly. "Nice to meet you, Richard, my name is Katrina and thank you very much for the warm reception." She gestured into the interior of her office "would you like to come in?"

Richard shook her hand firmly but without any needless squeezing of her hand,

"Well Katrina I see no reason why we can't be friends." he smiled happily, "When I attended Durmstrang we had no such rivalries and there was much interacting between houses. It was a friendly atmosphere. I hope we can build something like that this year."

He smiled again and bowed his head,

"I would be delighted to." he replied stepping into her office before presenting her with the bottle of wine, "Just a little something to properly welcome you."

Katrina smiled brightly at Richard as she shut the door to her office. She took the bottle of wine and conjured some goblets. "Thank you for the wine. That was very sweet of you." She gestured to the chair situated at the front of her desk as she herself sat on top of the desk. Laughing slightly she said "I've always wanted to sit on a desk in school but I always got in trouble but now that I'm a professor I can do it if I want." She poured some wine into each of the goblets and handed one to Rich before taking a sip. "I'm all for being friends, I always hated the interhouse rivalries at Hogwarts, I think it was the only bad thing about going to school here." She smiled "So what can I expect from being a professor here?"

Richard waved off her thanks with a small smile. After all, he'd been given the wine as a gift by one of his workmates and Briony didn't drink muggle wine so he'd have been drinking alone. At least this way it would be enjoyed,

"Ah it's nothing." he told her with a smile, "Better you have it than it sits down in my wine cellar. I don't actually think I've ever been down there actually... oh well."

He smirked a little before putting on his most serious teaching expression,

"Now young lady..." he lectured, sticking his tongue out to ruin the effect, "That's not how you sit at a desk."

Richard took the goblet and tasted the wine. It was good,

"Well then we can work to bridge the gap. Or at least make it friendly rivalry." he chuckled a little, "Misbehaving kids, way too much work, kids pulling magical pranks oh and a cool headmistress. Just average teaching really. Oh, except we're teaching them to go out into the world and fight a war."

He added the last part rather bitterly.

Kat chuckled at the man as he waved off her thanks. "I'm glad that I could help you enjoy the wine." She replied to his mock scolding by sticking her tongue out at him as well. "As for the kids well, I'm used to being pranked and unruly children don't really bother me." She grimaced at the thought of children having to fight this war but she knew that her duty as a professor made her teach them. But she didn't have to like it.

Richard smirked a little and brought the goblet up to his nose, using his enhanced sense of smell to almost taste the wine without actually drinking any,

"It's a good wine." he said with a small shrug, "And my wife doesn't drink wine. I do but... well drinking alone is kind of sad. So this is the best solution!"

He nodded at the idea of facing unruly children,

"They're a blessing, a joy and a pain in the ass all at once." he agreed, raising his goblet up in a more quiet tone, "To our students... may they all survive the coming years."
