Potions: First Years, Lesson Four Empty Potions: First Years, Lesson Four

Post by Angel Valentine Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:07 am

Today she was going to have to deal with a more practical form of potions. She knew that her lesson was often times being interrupted by little conversations, mindless arguments or simple dislikes between the students usually between Gryffindor and Slytherin.

Today they were going to learn about the Wound-cleaning potion. It was simple, but something that they could use in the Hospital Wing.

Tessa had walked into the classroom. After she found a desk, Yasmina laid down beside of her. She knew that she had to pay more attention in all of her class. Just so her mind wouldn't go on summer break. And she didn't' want her professors to think that. She knew that she needed to end the year off on a good note. But she was also thinking about what classes that she wanted next year. But she then was waiting for class to start.

Anne walked into Potions and sat near the middle. She was rather tired. She really didn't want to be here. She would much rather be in History of Magic. She wondered what she might learn today.

Anne waved to her professor as she sat down and waited for class to start.

Teresa walked in the dungeon and went to sit at the front. She was a bit new and hope she would make new friends. Or at least not make a real fool of herself.

She was a bit upset. He hadn't come back since yesterday afternoon. She hoped he ready to suffer the consequences.

Entering the classroom, he looked around noticing the large amount of Gryffindors in the classroom. He sighed and took his seat in his normal seat and saved a seat for Xander. He really needed to meet more Slytherins because the amount of red was ridiculous.

Right now he'd be lucky if he saw a few Hufflepuff and a few Ravenclaws, red was getting sickening.

Potions: First Years, Lesson Four Empty Re: Potions: First Years, Lesson Four

Post by Jaycie Simple Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:53 pm

Jaycie walked into her Potions class, eyes trained on the ground as she moved to her usual seat, books clutched to her chest just for something to hold onto.

She slid into her desk and noticed that half the room was covered in red, and there were barely any Slytherins. Maybe they just weren't here yet. Jay knew she was the only Hufflepuff in her class so far, although she didn't really mind, it would be nice to have someone familiar to talk with.

But by judging the look on Professor Valentine's face, any word out of her mouth would probably cause her a detention.

Potions: First Years, Lesson Four Empty Re: Potions: First Years, Lesson Four

Post by Guest Wed Mar 28, 2012 12:31 am

Damien was ready to start potions, this had to be his most favorite class of all time, but his dream was to become a potions master and to do that he had to pay attention in class. He also wanted to make sure he was there to help Tessa.

Walking into the classroom he noticed that the same two Slytherins were in there. He really needed to get to know Luke and Xander a little more but both of them never really said anything when he did try to talk to them.

He finally made his way over to where Tessa was sitting "Excuse me ma'am my I sit here please with you." Damien said in the politest voice he could muster.

Tessa didn't really like potions, but she took it because of Damien. And she would be taking it next year again. Because she made a promise, but she would get to pick out four class. She did her best not to distract herself.

“ Yes you can sit here.” Damien was trying to be polite after the last time they meet. But she was whispering everything. She didn’t' want to interrupt the professor.

Xander strode into class and plopped down next to Luke. He sighed.

This class was his favorite, but he was falling victim to the common end of year burnout. It wasn't that he didn't care about classes, it just seemed harder to focus than before.

Seeing that most students had entered, she moved her hands so the class was locked shut. No more students would enter and she began the class.

"Okay students, today we will be concentrating on the Wound-Cleaning Potion. Can anyone guess why I would choose this potions today?"

She was curious towards the responses.

Sam raised her hand a little nervously she sighed " Maybe because it's an important potion that you use incase you're in battle or you use it if you are ever injured" Sam said looking at the Professor she hoped she at least got some of the answer right but she knew, she had gotten it wrong.

Potions: First Years, Lesson Four Empty Re: Potions: First Years, Lesson Four

Post by Angel Valentine Fri Mar 30, 2012 7:06 am

She smiled seeing that Miss Hawthorn had tried. She had not remembered her talking and she found it interesting.

"Good try Miss Hawthorn. And while you would not use it in combat, you would use it later to try and sterilize the wound and then cure it."

She sat down atop of her desk and got serious, her smile gone.

"In reality, I am using this because we are having a few attacks recently and the Hospital Wing currently has a shortage of this potion. Also, I'd appreciate you if you carried any extra with you, so we are making a large amount alright? Good pair up and let's begin."

Soon the ingredients began to appear on the board and she sat on her usual seat observing the students.

-Add six cups of Dragon Blood
-Boil the blood to 100 degrees and keep mixing it so it doesn't clot.
-Add Chizpurfle carcasses, crushed, and move it.
-Add two cups of Mandrake juice.
-Mix until it turns into a light pink.
-PUT ON GOGGLES
-Add seven chili peppers and add a handful of chili seeds.
Reminder: Do not touch your eyes after this, you will burn them.
- Wait until it turns into a redder color.
-Add eight blueberries (it will be used to lessen the chili burning
-Wait until it reaches 140 degrees and continue to mix it.
-It will turn into a light purple.
-Add four cups of dry alcohol
-Cover, lower the flame and raise your hand when done.

Teresa memorized the list and took out the ingredients. She poured six cups of dragon blood to her cauldron and boiled it, mixing it as well. Then she proceed to the next steps, adding crushed chizpurfle carcasses and mandrake juice. She mixed it, but it didn't up light pink, it was more darker instead.

"I was sure I did everything right," Teresa muttered, then shrugged. She put on her goggles. "I'll worry about that later."

She then add the peppers and the seeds. Then she waited for the pink to turn red.

Now THIS is something useful! Xander was excited to learn something that they may need to use sometime in the near future, if they were unlucky.

He smirked at Luke and stood up. "I'll get the ingredients." He walked over to the cupboard and started getting together what they needed.

Seeing Xander's expression Luke shook his head. He loved Herbology more than anything, but it seemed Xander preferred potion. He waved him off and began to put the cauldron on fire.

While Xander was gone, he wrote it all up and began to note it in his notebook for further references.

Sam wrote the list down and started her potion she did everything right but she did have a few burns from the fire she put six cups of the dragons blood in and she did all the other ingredients right.

She watched as the color turned redder color she than added the blueberries she began to cough she noticed her hands started to get red and start to itch she felt as though her head was on fire she continued the potion she finished the potion when she did she felt her face it felt puffy she looked at the ground, when she mentally beat herself with a hammer she was allergic to blueberries sighing she was going to have to go to the hospital wing. When she finished her potion she raised her hand but kept her head down.

Damien looked at Tessa and then told her he would get up and go fetch the ingredients on the list. Seeing is the list was long Damien needed to make two trips. After getting the ingredients Damien made the list of what needed to be done and placed the reading spell on it for Tessa.

"So Tessa you want to start warming up the dragons blood?" Damien asked.

" I will work on crushing the Chizpurfle carcasses?" Damien stated.

Tessa blinked a little bit. But then started to smile. " Sure I can do that." But she then paused for a couple of seconds.

" Did the Professor say that we can work with others?" One thing was she didn't want to get Damien in trouble. She couldn't just look around and see if everyone else was working with a partner. But she knew that Damien was only trying to help her. Tessa knew that next year she would be taking potions. And Damien said he would be there for her.

Damien smiled at Tessa as he was beginning to start the next step. He looked over and could tell the blood was at the tempurture it was suppose to be at.

"Yes dear, she said to partner up, so here we are. Can you see what the next exact step is? I did place the spell on the paper." Damien smiled at her and shook his head while he finihsed crushing the pieces.

Tessa then started to mumble out loud. “ We have the dragon blood and it is boil. We need to add Chizpurfle carcasses, crushed and move it.” She then looked farther down the list. “ Then we need to add two cups of Mandrake Juice.”

She knew that she wasn't the best person at potions and that Damien could have anybody he wanted. But he wanted to help her.

Potions: First Years, Lesson Four Empty Re: Potions: First Years, Lesson Four

Post by Jaycie Simple Sun Apr 01, 2012 7:43 pm

Jaycie chewed her lip. It was starting to become a habit, but she didn't mind. Looking around the room, she saw no one was going out of their way to pair up with her, and she didn't blame them. Why would they pair with her?

Rising, she quickly grabbed what she needed from the store cupboard and got started, placing the dragon blood into the cauldron and bringing it to boil at 100 degrees, continuously turning it, afraid it would clot and someone would get mad at her. While it was simmering at the boil, she crushed up the chizpurfles and added them. She stirred again, then measured the Mandrake juice and tipped that in. She pushed the thickening mixture around more till it turned a bubblegum pink.

Glancing up at the board to check what else she need, Jay quickly grabbed her goggles and put them on. She added the chilli peppers, but then her eye started to itch. She breathed in deeply and tried in vain not to scratch.

The potion changed to a vibrant red, and she was pleased. It was quite a pretty colour. She added the eight blueberries, counting each one carefully, and watched as it turned purple.

Jaycie measured out the dry alcohol and poured that in, after bringing the heat to 140. She covered the potion with the lid once she was happy with it, took off the goggles - Jay thought they made her look silly, because they felt really weird - and raised her hand.

Damien looked at the cauldron and added the crushed Chizpurfle carcasses to the dragon blood. Talking to Tessa, "You need to keep mixing so the blood doesn't clot while I add the stuff, ok?"

Damien added the two cups of mandrake juice to the cauldron. "Now we need to wait until it turns light pink."

Damien handed her a pair of goggles. "Here put these on." One day Damien might not sound so bossy. Damien took over mixing while she put them on.

"Ok now its the proper color I will add the chili's"

Tessa keep on mixing the blood like she was told to. “ Why do I have to keep stirring again? I know to keep it from clotting.”

She blinked a little bit. Tessa was glad that at least one of them could see the color of the potion.

Tessa then took the goggles and put them on. “ You could have said it nicer.”

Damien sighed a little "We have to keep stiring becasue the blood will clot, plus we keep having to add more ingredients."

Damien did the next couple of steps. "Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so rude."

Damien just wanted to get the potion done and bottled before the class was over.
