Lesson One - Third Years Empty Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Natasha Willow Tue Apr 17, 2012 11:53 am

Natasha was very excited about the lesson she had planned for the third years. She knew all too well how off putting it could be to have a new teacher, so she thought she would break the ice with some practical application.

As she waited on the students to arrive, she took time to write a quick letter to her mentor. He had become like a father figure to her through her years with the dragons and she was going to miss seeing him day in and day out. As the familiar ache returned in her chest, she tried to reassure herself that this move was for the best.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Airen Auditoren Tue Apr 17, 2012 2:01 pm

Airen walked to the Care of Magical Creatures lesson. He looked around and saw that rather than Professor Girard, there was a new professor. He hoped nothing bad had happened to the former professor. He walked over to a tree and leaned against it.

"Good morning, Professor," he greeted, hoping to make her feel welcome.

Haley walked down to the CoMC lesson with a small smile. She was looking forward to having this class again. She had learned that professor Girard was no longer the teacher of the lesson, and she really hoped nothing bad had happened.

She saw Airen and the new professor and gave a smile to her before walking over to Airen. She gave him a smile, hoping he didn't think she was absolutely weird as she walked over to him, not knowing him very well.

"Hey Airen. Have a nice summer?" she asked him kindly.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Parker watched his feet as he made his way down the hill to CoMC. He stumbled a little bit but he caught himself. He looked back up, seeing a pair of students already there. He furrowed his eyebrows a bit, seeing that there was a new teacher. He sighed, why was it the teachers were always changing? It made thing so much harder...

He made it down the hill and stopped next to Haley, looking over at the new professor. "I didn't know we had a new professor..."

Zara calmly walked down to class, seeing a few familiar faces already there.

Stopping next to Parker, she turned to him and waved. "Hey, Parker. Haven't seen you in a while." she said, with a welcoming smile. She leaned forward a little bit to look past him and see Haley. "Hi, Haley!" she said, joyfully.

She looked around for the professor, but saw someone different. She was a little surprised. She never heard that there was going to be a new teacher for CoMC. She wondered what happened to Professor Girard.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Charlotte was hurrying down to the lesson that she hoped would have moved on from all flying things for the moment, when she saw that there was someone unfamiliar down there at the bottom of the grounds, wondering who it was, Charlotte hurried even faster.

Approaching the class she smiled and waved to everyone;

"Hey guys, hope you all had a nice summer." she grinned, having already seen three out of the four at the ball, at least at a glance anyway, seeing that the new figure was in fact a new instructor, she hoped that nothing bad had happened with Professor Girard.

Haley smiled when she saw Parker nearing them. When he reached them, he looked at the professor. She shrugged.

"It changes a lot, but the name was on the schedule I got, so I knew. Her name is professor Natasha Willow," she explained lowly to him.

Her smile widened when Zara and Charlotte met up with them. "Hey you two," she said happily.

Parker listened to Haley explain and nodded. "Oh...really?" he sighed. "I still don't like how it changes so much..."

"Oh, hey there, Zara," Parker said as he looked over at her with a friendly smile as she stopped beside him. It was true, he felt like he'd not seen her in ages. He leaned back a little bit as she leaned forward to say hello to Haley.

When Charlotte had run up Parker gave her a wave as everyone exchanged greetings with her too.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Victoria Rossmund Thu Apr 19, 2012 2:28 pm

Victoria hurried to class. She was thinking about asking to do an apprenticeship with the new CoMC teacher, so she really didn't want to be late.

She was happy to see all of the familiar faces in the clearing, but wondered where Tess was. She didn't see any animals around, so she took a seat near the teacher and smiled at her.

"Morning, Professor."

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Natasha smiled at the friendship she could see among the students. It was something she greatly missed from her school days. Children were quick to trust unless given a reason not to, something that is usually trained out of them as adults.

Trying to not fall into her sadness again, she stood up to address the class.

"Hello, all! My name is Natasha Willow, I will be your professor for this class until further notice. Now I know you were probably all very fond of the last professor, but I personally don't know what happen to her to make her leave." She hoped their loyalty to their teacher of the last two years wouldn't cloud their ability to learn.

"Now, onto the lesson! Today we will be exploring the old hut that used to belong to the groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Since it is no longer in use, it has developed a terrible infestation of Bundimun." She started walking in the direction of the hut, hoping they would follow.

"Our job is going to be to get rid of them so that the hut can be used for storage and possibly a classroom for us, if ever we have need of it." She knew it was rather small, but with a few spells that wouldn't be a problem.

"Who can tell me something about the Bundimun?"

Charlotte smiled lightly as the Professor introduced herself, she heard what they would be learning about today and she was happy to get away from learning about anything that flew, even if they were something that could ruin the whole house, thinking about the creature, she thought that she remembered soomething about it when she had read her text book before soming back to school, so hesitantly she raised her hand;

"I think I remember something about them professor," she said when she was called upon to speak "Some of the liquids that they make when they are diluted can be used to make cleaning solutions, but it can occassionally spit out acid if someone annoys it by bothering it."

Now a little bit worried about the acid, Charlotte lowered her hand when she had finished her answer.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Natasha Willow Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:27 pm

"Very good, Miss Smith. 10 points to Slytherin." Natasha wanted to jump up and down from the excitement of giving out her first house points, but she figured it wouldn't be professional.

Approaching the door to the hut, she turned to her students. "Bundimun inhabit buildings that are usually abandoned and neglected. They act as termites and will feed on the building's structure until there is nothing left. Today we will be getting rid of them by use of the Scouring Charm." She demonstrated the wand movement and firmly said, "Scourgify."

She led them into the main room of the hut. "I know these creatures are more hazardous than you have encountered before, but I know you are all up for the challenge. If you would like to not participate that is fine. The homework to be turned in next lesson will be 50 points on your experience, 100 for those that do not participate."

Natasha smiled at them, hoping they would take this opportunity to be brave, and gestured for them to try.

(OOC: Sorry for the late posting, it's been a crazy week. I will not be closing the lesson until late Monday night, so feel free to post to your hearts content Smile )

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Parker Emery Mon Apr 23, 2012 4:20 pm

Parker listened interested as the Professor began with the lesson, he didn't exactly like the idea of having a so called classroom, he liked being outside. It was one of the reasoned he liked the class. But he figured it would be fine, and quite necessary during bad weather.

He didn't know the answer to the question she asked so he waited to someone else to answer it. Charlotte spoke up and he listened to the answer she gave. He furrowed his eyebrows a bit, not liking the idea of acid being sprayed at him. He hoped whatever they were weren't easily annoyed. It seemed interesting that they could be used for cleaning solutions though.

He walked with her and the rest of the class to the hut and then inside of it. Scourgify, he'd need to remember that. Parker was a little unnerved about them being dangerous, and it didn't help when the professor also said they were dangerous. Despite that, he wanted to give it a try. He stepped over to the edge of the group and pointed his wand over to where he saw some of the creatures. He narrowed his eyes in concentration and muttered, "Scorgify-" as he took a step back so they wouldn't spray acid in his direction.

Haley listened closely to what the professor was saying, a bit sad that she didn't know what Charlotte replied to. But at least she learned something new. She watched the spell closely and then it was her turn. They walked into a room and she turned to one of the things and heard Parker saying the spell. She looked to her right and saw the thing spray the acid and smiled slightly. She turned to the thing as if this was a life and death dueling combat.

"Scourgify," she said firmly and backed off as the thing sprayed acid.

Lesson One - Third Years Empty Re: Lesson One - Third Years

Post by Victoria Rossmund Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:38 pm

Victoria was excited to finally learn something practical about creatures. She didn't mind riding the horses, but that didn't provide any useful information.

She followed the other two into the hut and looked around, spotting a gross green blob that had tons of little eyes. She kept her distance, as with the spiky plants in Herbology last year and firmly said "Scourgify." She watched as the little creature seemed to shrivel up.

Not wanting to stick around to see what happened to it, she hurried out of the hut, satisfied that she'd done well.
