Lesson Three - Third Years Empty Lesson Three - Third Years

Raven looked around her classroom, her eyes slowly blinked shut and she opened them once more, the pale violet being replaced by the dark angry shade of black that often graced her features now. There was a trouble in her mind...

It had grown and grown over these past few weeks. Since she had been made the Godparent to Briony's child, since she had named her child after her.

Why were her children not the same as hers? She did not understand why they were not the same as Raven, and it had worn away at her thoughts. Now she idlly played with the tendrils of ripped clothes that Leo, her favourite wraith, had, staring blankly at the open door to her classroom.

On the board was what they would be learning today:

When Melissa arrived in the potions classroom she was surprised to find that she was the only one in the classroom, now that was a surprise because usually she was the last one there.

She looked at the board and took a seat and waited for the rest of the class.

Terry walked into potions class and was glad to see that he was not late, but he was wondering where the other students were. Kearia was not here and he hoped she was ok.

He did see Melissa and thought since no one else was here he would join her just in case partner was needed.

"Hey Missy." Terry said while he waited for further instructions.

Raven stood up from her desk when the two studnets entered the class, she was not looking forward to teaching this lesson however she knew that it had to be done. Frowning a little at the students, she tapped the board and her instructions came up:

"Can anyone tell me what this potion does? If you manage to without looking at your notes I shall give you some housepoints." she said in a dull, rather flat tone.

Her eyes were lifeless as she tapped the board again and the recipe came up:

"Here are your instructions, begin."

Ingredients:

Honeywater
Min Sprigs (6)
Stewed Mandrake (1 Cup)
Syrup of Hellbore (3 Tablespoons)

Warm the initial mix of ingredients until it turns red, then green.
Next, add Honeywater until the liquid turns pink.
Warm again, this time until it turns orange.
When mint sprigs are added, the potion turns into a shade of green. The potion has to be warmed yet again, until it turns blue. Then, more mint sprigs are to be added.
By this time the potion should be have turned pink once more.
Stewed Mandrake is to be added next, to which the potion turns orange.
A small amount of Syrup of Hellebore should be added next, turning the potion blue.
To finish the brew, one has to warm the potion until it's red and warm some more until it turns a pleasant yellow. Once finished, the potion should release some sparks.

Melissa smiled a little when the professor asked what the potion did and she could not help but answer. She loved the way this potion worked.

"It alters the drinker voice, Lehrer" Missy smiled her corny smile then went about getting the ingredients for the potion.

Missy went over to the cupboard and got the ingredients she would need and started her potions.

Missy thought it was cool that the color changed so quickly with just the first ingredients. Following the recipe she discovered at the end it did not omit the sparks and she could not understand what she did wrong, she thought she followed it to the tee.

Terry was not certain off the top of his mind what the potion did but he was sure he would learn. Potions was not one of his favorites but he knew he did fairly well at it.

Writing down the list of ingredients he went and got them and started his potion. getting his cauldron ready he started down the list of what to do, everything was going swimmingly and he thought it would turn out perfect.

Terry kept glancing over at Missy to see what she had done when her potion did not omit the sparks like it was suppose to.

"Maybe you added to much of the Hellebore?" Terry whispered

Terry finished up his portion and received that sparks that he was suppose to get.
