DADA third lesson, first years (Expelliarmus)

Lucia walked into the classroom, feeling both exhausted and happy. She was starting to notice the effect of having four jobs at once, but she could handle it. She knew she could. She loved doing what she did, and she would continue doing so. She walked over to her desk and sat down, waving her wand at the table. She looked at the students who had gathered.

"All right class. We will begin the lesson immediately. Firstly, can anyone tell me what Expelliarmus does?" Lucia asked them all.

(OOC: New MO: I start the lesson instantly and the next time I post, the students coming in after, will be regarded as late)

Lunete step through the door she took a seat at her desk. She took out some paper and she was ready to take note on what they would they would be learning.

Carly raised her hand at the question, liking the fact that class was begining immediately.

"Its a disarming charm, usually it will knock an oponents wand out of their hand, but sometimes it will knock them backwards, depending on the force of the spell and where it hits the person" she said.

Carly smiled, happy that she knew what the spell did for once.

Iola kept silent at the teacher's question, she'd never heard of that spell before and didn't want to seem ignorant in front of her peers.

Lucia smiled at Carly. "That is correct, five points to Hufflepuff, though there really isn't many cases where the person is knocked backwards, only in cases where more than one person throws the spell at the same time. When it's only one person, it only knocks out objects the person is holding.

"Otherwise, in the last battle between Harry Potter and Tom Riddle, when Harry outmatched Riddle, he would've been knocked backwards, as Harry was pretty much fighting for everything in the world, and putting his power into it. As for where you aim a spell, you only aim at the object of your target, meaning with Expelliarmus, you only attack, not the thing your opponent is holding, but the opponent itself," Lucia said calmly.

"Now, the spell is pronounced 'Ex-PELLI-ar-mus," she said, stressing the syllabus that one was supposed to pronounce strongest.

"The handmovement is a slight, sharp flick to the left," she said.

"Now, I want you to pair up, you three together, and try to knock the other person's wand out of their hands in turn. If you focus enough, the wand will come to you," Lucia said softly.

"Begin."

Carly turned to the two girls and smiled, when no one said they wanted to go first, Carky thought she should.

Turning to one of the girls she said "expelliarmus" and waved her wand. When nothing happened, she tried again making sure to pronounce the spell exactly. This time the wand flew out of the girls hand and Carly clumsily caught it. Grinning happily she handed the wand back, exstatic that she could do the spell.

"Nice!" Iola smiled at the other girl. Taking one deep breath she tried the spell nothing happened the first or second time she tried it but on the third go, the wand finally flew out of the other girl's hand. With a small smile she passed it back.
