DADA third years - fourth lesson Empty DADA third years - fourth lesson

Post by Lucia Henley Wed May 30, 2012 9:05 am

Lucia sat by her desk, waiting for the class to walk into the room. She pointed her wand to the blackboard, and the word 'Priori Incantato' appeared. She then turned as the first students filed in.

"All right class! As you can see, we'll be learning about the Priori spell today. First of all, who can tell me what the spell does?" she asked, looking at them all.

When one of the students raised their hand, she pointed to them and they answered.

Then she turned fully to the class again. "And what would this spell be useful to do?" she asked them.

(OOC: Yeah, new things all around, but reply only to either the one with the effect of the spell or the one where Lucia asks what use it is. Hope that's understandable. Also, it's important that the person replying first to this thread replies to the first question if it has yet to be answered.)

Haley walked into the DADA classroom and her eyes landed on the blackboard. She blinked. Priori Incantato? She immediately located her books and read about the spell. She then grinned. It seemed pretty interesting. Then professor Henley asked a question about the spell and Haley raised her hand.

"Priori Incantato is a spell that, if directed at another person's wand, will show what the person's last spell was. If it is focused enough, it could turn into Priori Incantatem, a much stronger hold where one can see a whole line of spells the owner of the opposite wand has used, going back years, depending on your patience," Haley said calmly.

Airen entered the classroom and took his seat. He looked up at the board and thought of what the spell could be. He was a student in Latin, and thus, he could roughly translate the spell to 'first incantation'.

As he sat down, he listened to the professor's questions. He smiled slightly as Haley immediately rattled off the answer for the first. He raised his hand for the second.

"You could use the spell to determine the culprit in a crime or a murder. It also helps with identifying unauthorized sell casters in a home," he said.

Zara walked into class, hearing the other students answering questions about the Priori Incantato spell.

She sat down at a desk in the middle and took out her text book to read about the spell that was written on the board.

Charlotte was very shocked when she came into the lesson to see that it was already in full swing, she wasn't late to her knowledge and she merely hurried into the lesson as quietly as possible and sat down in her usual seat next to Airen with a small smile on her lips.

Taking out her books, she waited for the lesson to move on so that she might be able to have a crack at answering another question.

Victoria walked into class and took a seat near the back. She smiled at the professor. The past few lessons had been rather interesting. More of a dive-in-head-first approach. She didn't feel as if she was late, but not exactly on time.

Having heard the questions and following answers she was in awe. It was the end of her third year at Hogwarts and she was still learning things that amazed her about the wizarding world. What surprised her most was how they paralleled the muggle world in certain ways.

Tess was running late, she knew it and she felt terrible. It was just not a good week for her and she feared falling asleep in class. She had drank some coffee, perhaps a little too much as she sneaked into the classroom.

She cursed inwardly as she heard the answers already being said, and sat down beside Victoria, sighing at the points she missed.

Humphrey arrived a bit after Tess, he had seen her rushing in the hall on the way here. He hurried after her, and arrived just a bit after her. Airen had already answered the question. At least it was a Gryffindor. "Good job, Airen. Hello everybody." he told them, smiling.

"Professor." he said, nodding to her as he sat down. "I am excited to learn this spell, since I want to be an Auror." Humphrey said excitedly. You could tell he was a little kid, and this lesson would be like candy to him.

Pyxis hurried along to her DADA class and was most pleased to see that she was indeed on time. A relieved smile crossed her features and she looked around the almost full classroom. She didn't see Parker anywhere though, and so she took a seat at the back by herself. She rolled her eyes as Humphrey spoke - he had the ability to irritate her with a few words.

Airen's face cringed almost unnoticeably when Humphrey congratulated him on answering a question without even knowing if it was right or not. The kid seemed to push his buttons as if on instinct. Breathing silently, Airen told himself to not let a little thing as some one talking more then needed get under his skin.

"Thanks, Humphrey, I guess," he said softly. His cheeks were red from embarrassment. He really didn't like too much attention. He preferred to just answer the question and move on. He kept his snarky remarks to himself so as to at least try not to get so worked up. He needed to work on his tolerance of Humphrey.

"You're welcome, Airen. I know you like being unnoticed, but sometimes, it is okay to take some credit. You are a smart guy Airen, it is alright to let that show a bit. Also, you are a great teacher." he whispered at the end so only Airen could hear it. After a while, you learn how to whisper in a classroom, an essential skill learned by all students. Well, most students at least.

"Hey Tess, Victoria, how are you doing today?" he asked them politely. They were two very cool people, and Humphrey was hoping to get to know Victoria better. He used to know her really well, but now she was a Vampire. Understanding that it was hard for her, would take time. But, he was a werewolf, so he knew a bit about what she was going through. Even if their kind had fought a lot in history.

Post by Parker Emery Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:49 am

Parker huffed to himself, hurrying down the hallway along with some other groups on their ways to their classes that also seemed late. His mind had just been all over the place, trying to keep up with all his classes and his homework, but failing to do so. He felt like he was falling behind and he hated it.

Rushing into the room it seemed class had started already. He sighed and looked around for a seat, immediately seeing Pyxis and taking a seat next to her in the back. He gave a small smile to her and looked up to Professor Henley, but someone was being rude and chatting to the others and not listening to her instead. Professor Henley was one of his favorite professors, so he found it kind of bothered him as his eyes moved over to look at Humphrey. He shook his head slightly and looked down at his hands. Where was this coming from? Why was he so irritable lately?

Lucia smiled at Haley. "That's quite right, Ms. Smith. Five points to Hufflepuff," she said.

She then listened closely to what Airen was saying and nodded. "Indeed. It is often used in cases of criminal activity to reveal the last used spell of a wand, though it is not always reliable as wands can be used by other wielders. But your point is definitely right. Five points to you, Airen," she said.

She watched for a second as Humphrey started chatting and speaking over the classroom before she raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Williams, this is not a lesson for chit-chat. I am very sure that you have lots to talk to your friends about, but please leave it out of my classroom, otherwise, you can just leave," she said calmly, though a warning tone was lying underneath it.

She then looked at them all. "I want you to pair up and try this spell out on one another. The spell is fairly simple, and it doesn't have a handmovement. So, just pair up, if there's an odd one out, go together three and do the spell in turns," Lucia said with a smile.

When Humphrey spoke she smiled a bit worried that he was chatting during class, professors barely allowed that. She winced once she heard the warning and shrugged softly towards Humphrey as a sort of apology. But hearing that they were doing partners she grabbed Victoria's hand and walked towards Haley as well.

"As always dibbies?" she said to the pair.

She figured why not work with two of her friends.

Haley frowned slightly, feeling a bit bad on Humphrey's behalf when professor Henley practically reprimanded him. She then sighed and looked around the class as the professor asked them to pair up. There would be an odd one out, so she was rather happy when Tess and Victoria walked over to her.

"Works fine with me. Dibs," she said happily.

She was really glad that Tess had become her friend. Before the third year, she had never really known how to place her, but she was without doubt now. Now Victoria would be victim to her hopefully kind way of getting new friends.

She walked a bit off and pointed her wand at Tess, wondering what spell she would've used last. "Ready?" she asked, but didn't really wait for a reply; they were a bit short on time, and it would be great if they all got to try the spell.

"Priori Incantato," she said firmly, but nothing happened. She sighed and cleared her mind like she always forgot to do at the first try. "Priori Incantato," she said, much firmer this time, and that was when something happened.

Pyxis glanced up at Parker as he sat beside her, and the small smile he gave her was given a huff in return. He barely talked to her anymore, but now he expected her to just be happy-go-lucky and talk to him? She frowned and turned her attention back to Professor Henley as she started the lesson. She hoped Humphrey would shut up already, he really annoyed her more than anything else in the world.

She sighed and turned her attention now to Parker, a slightly upset look in her eyes though she forced her features into indifference after a moment's pause. "Shall we?" She asked in a monotone.

Tess grinned brightly at both girls and began to work with the pair. Haley began her spell and as her wand began to glow, she waited for something to happen. On Haley's second try, then her wand vibrated a bit sending a warm feeling through her and it glowed.

It was clear that the last spell she used was Aguamenti.

"Good Job" she said smiling.

Now being her turn, she turned towards Victoria and gave her a warning smile before using the spell herself.

"Priori Incantatem" and she was lucky that it worked perfectly the first time.

Happy to be pairing up with Tess and Haley, Victoria let Tess lead her to an empty space in the room. Smiling at Haley, she stepped to the side so she wouldn't be in the way.

After Haley successfully cast the spell, Victoria braced herself for Tess's turn. She was always surprised by the jolt of power Tess could create. As the spell made contact with her wand he saw the tip glow brightly, but it was a pale blue, as if it was only a figment of the last spell she had cast: Lumos Solem.

Grinning widely, she was happy that she'd gotten control over her fangs. "That was brilliant! Both of you."

Turning to Haley, she gave her a shy smile. "This may not work right the first time, so bare with me." As she took a deep breath, she concentrated on Haley's wand and said "Priori Incantatem." She could feel the magic stir within her, but it wasn't ready to come out.

Trying to calm her mind, she realized she could hear every heart in the room, smell the food they'd had for breakfast, see the dust floating in the air. Turning that unwavering insight inwards, she tried again. "Priori Incantatem." The spell burst from her wand with such force that her hand recoiled back. For a split second she was afraid of what it meant. Looking at Haley, she waited for her spell to make contact.

Parker frowned and looked down to his desk when Pyxis huffed at him. He looked down at his folded hands, wringing them together as Professor Henley spoke. He hated how things were always so rocky with them. It was the end of the year and they had drifted apart a bit. He didn't want that at all. He wanted to fix it, he wanted to talk to her over summer.

With thew professors word to start he looked at Pyxis. His frown set seeing her expression, and he gave a small nod, looking down as he stood up, taking his wand from his bag.

He walked over to the other side of the room, opposite to Tess, Haley, and Victoria. He stopped and turned around, waiting for Pyxis to come over. He spoke quietly, "Do you want to go first?"

Haley gave a smile to Tess as she complimented her. She then turned and stepped a bit away so Tess would have place enough. She beamed as she managed on first try. "Awesome," she said happily.

She then braced herself for Victoria to throw the spell at her. "Don't stress with it, you'll do fine," she said securely. She had seen Victoria cast spells before, and she seemed like a pretty strong person.

Nothing happened on the first try, but then something went seriously wrong the second try. She could see Victoria's hand get pushed backwards, and that was a good thing, otherwise she was pretty damned sure the spell would've knocked Haley off her feet. She was, however, warned in just enough time to lean forward and take on the jet. She was pushed a bit backwards, and then a sort of line shot from her wand.

Not just a spell came out, but who it was used on. Like Tess in the Occlumency classroom. It happened really quickly too. Before she knew it, she was back during the summer, fighting Sally Swandeth. Haley clenched her teeth and her heart throbbed painfully. She then broke her wand from the connection.

She heaved for her breath, not because of exhaustion, but because her heart was throbbing painfully, her blood oozing in her head. It was seriously painful. After a second, she straightened up and sighed deeply. "That was intense," she said, and a wide grin spread on her face despite the hole she felt in her heart.

Post by Lucia Henley Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:28 am

Lucia clapped her hands just as something happened in the corner where Tess, Haley and Victoria were standing. Priori Incantatem. She paid attention to what happened, knowing that Victoria was a pretty strong person, or person and person. Lucia had guessed what had happened to Victoria during her absence, but she didn't ask as long as the girl could keep her thirst under control.

She frowned slightly as a German woman appeared. Lucia had heard of her before. Sally Swandeth. A notorious murderer. Or at least to those who paid attention to the smaller news in the papers. She frowned; what did Haley have to do with her?

She walked over when the connection was broken and looked around the room. "Did you guys see that? That was a perfect example of the Priori Incantatem spell," she said, smiling proudly at Victoria, placing an arm to rest down Haley's pulse, knowing it might be a bit more nerve wrecking for Victoria with the beating heart and all. "Ten points to Gryffindor for that performance," Lucia said happily. "And five points to the rest that managed the spell," she added.

"Class dismissed."
