Potions: Lesson Three, Third Years Empty Potions: Lesson Three, Third Years

Entering the classroom, she simply swung her hands around putting everything in order. Honestly Peeves had been well...peeving her lately with his antics. She swung the curtain open allowing the green glow from the lake light up the room.

As she saw the room fit to teach, the words for the lesson appeared 'Blood Replenishing Potion" and sat down.

Entering the classroom, she took her usual spot and took out her notebook and textbook. Seeing the words on the board, she immediately began to look for the potion.

She had also noticed that the potions were becoming more necessary and she liked that a lot.

Pyxis walked through the halls aimlessly for hours before she realised that it was time for her lesson and quickly returned to the common room. Once there, she collected her bag and continued along to her lesson, where upon arrival she took a seat at the back and waited for the lesson to begin.

Charlotte wandered into the classroom, looked around and saw that there were her fellow Slytherins here and not many others, that was probably because it was easier to get to the potions classroom from the common room, it was right next to it after all.

Sitting down in her normal seat Charlotte sent a friendly smile to her classmates and professor.

Airen entered the classroom. He immediately noticed that he was the only Gryffindor and boy there. Of course, he had noticed that early
on in his first year. He casually strolled over to his normal seat. He sent a warm smile to Charlotte.

"Good morning, Professor," he greeted as he took out his things.

Tabi walked into Potions class excited to start the class. She had been accepted with a apprenticeship position and was wondering when that was going to start.

Tabi sat down at the desk and got the basic stuff ready to brew the Blood Replenishing potion. This was the one thing Tabi was glad about, she loved being the daughter of a potions master. She learned a lot from him.

Tabi was wondering where her sister was, since Ivano had been transferred she had began working on potions with Leshia.

"Leshia, you better hurry up and get your butt to potions, I am not doing all of this by myself." Tabi thought to her sister.

Tabi did not have to wait long for a response,

"Well you hold your horses, I don't live next to the classroom like you do" Leshia thought back rather snippy.

Tabi had to laugh a little, she loved being able to talk to her sister in their minds. She will never forget how they learned that their first year here.

What ever inspired the headmaster to put the Potions Classroom in the dungeons? he wondered to himself as he took a seat in the back of the class. Honestly, he enjoyed the subject, but the chill of the cold stone dungeon always made him uncomfortable. 'Blood Replenishing Potion' was written across the board at the front of the class. Well, at least it should be an interesting lesson, that should be a tricky potion.

Victoria was relieved to have a class in the dungeons. She felt more invigorated now that she didn't have to worry about the sun. Taking a seat next to Tess she tried to appear as small as possible. She knew there would be a lot of questions as to why she missed last lesson, but right now she just needed the normalcy of classes.

After she got her things around for the lesson, she looked up at the board. If she could have grown paler she would have. Blood. This was either going to become very informative...or very bad. She pursed her lips in nervousness and tried not to bite through them.

Leshia walked into potions class and took her seat next to Tabi and smiled and almost laughed listening to what Tabi was thinking.

Leshia was looking around the classroom and about feel out of her chair when she noticed who was in the class.

"When did he get back" Leshia asked in a whisper.

"I don't know" Tabi whispered back.

Leshia just shrugged, he never bothered her. But she knew that Tabi could not stand him.

Turning her attention back to the assignment on the board and waited for the teacher to give permission to start.

Parker grabbed his bag and textbook from the common room. He rifled through a messy stack of papers that was on his bed and grabbed out some of the blank pieces, stuffing them into his bag before slinging it over his shoulder and walking out. The temperatures down in the dungeons were a lot colder and he found that he was really growing used to it now, remembering hw he used to complain about it first year.

He quickly made it to the class room, it being so near the dungeons. He looked around seeing all the people that had gathered for the class so far when he spotted Pyxis. He felt himself smile, as he felt like he'd not seen her in aged. Just passing glances in the common room. He'd just been feeling so overwhelmed lately, he didn't know if it was a good idea to talk to her a not. Well, they were talking now, unless she was in one of her moods. In which case he could deal with fine, as long as he got to sit next to her again. He just missed his best friend.

He quickly walked over and took the seat beside her, setting his bag down. "Hey." he said with a soft smile. He then glanced at the board, his eyebrows furrowed slightly. With the way lessons seemed to be going, it really did seem like they were training them for war...it was definitely worrying.

Seeing her last student appear, she knew it was time to begin the class. Walking towards her cauldron she lifted the ladle to present the blood replenishing potion that they'd be working on.

"Welcome students, it is lesson three Potions of the year, and today once more we will continue the theme of necessary potions with the Blood Replenishing Potion."

She took a slight sip and winced at the sour taste.

"Now for the people that are a little queasy about this potion do not worry. It is not real blood, for the potion will not be blood itself, but a catalyst to create new blood in the system. It will not smell like blood, but it does have the color. Now can anyone tell me any reason why we would want to learn this potion? And does anyone have any comments or concerns?"

Humphrey immediately thought of an excellent use for the potion. To treat injured witches and wizards, restore lost blood from injuries taken. Oddly, he was nervous about it, it was the first time in his life that he had been nervous about answering a question in class.

"One reason I think that a blood replenishing potion could be used is by healers on a battlefield, or in a hospital. If there is an open wound and a lot of blood has been lost, it could help them recover Professor." he said. He tried to speak up a little bit, but his voice sounded nervous even to himself. Quieter than he usually was as well.

Raising her brow at the student who answered she noticed that he was nervous for some reason. Perhaps it was because he had missed a whole year of her potions and it was no longer a walk in the park.

"Good Mr...Williams is it" she said looking down at the roster. "Any other reasons what someone could think of?"

Airen raised his hand when the professor asked for another answer.

"If one were to need a blood transfusion, rather than go through the hassle of finding a donor, you could easily take the potion," Airen said. He felt sure that the answer was correct, but he still doubted himself.

Victoria swallowed in nervousness and raised her hand.

In a smaller voice than she usually used, "It could be used on the victim of a vampire. If they were still alive but needing more blood."

As her nerves got to her she started fidgeting with the ring Charlie gave her. It was most helpful when in sunlight, but she was so afraid of being caught without it that she opted to wear it all the time. Shadows seemed to fall around her, she hoped not in too obvious of a way, since they were in the dungeons.

Tess raised her hand as well trying to make the attention go to her and away from Victoria whom she wanted to protect.

"You could also use it if a blood transplant goes wrong and the body rejects it, the blood replenishing potion could become a catalyst to increase the correct blood type to be reproduced" she chirped.

Tabi listened to everyone answers and as far as she could tell they were very correct answers.

"I would imagine that it would come in handy with someone who is loosing blood internally and the doctors cannot find the cause for the bleed to fix it. Less of a hassle than getting blood transfusions weekly."

Tabi had remember some of her fathers clients talking about that before.

Angel nodded and smiled at her class participating.

"Very good that all of you are participating. Ten points to both Gryffindors and Slytherins" she said smirking. "All these are good reasons, now let's begin the potion shall we?"

Walking towards the board, it slid up showing the ingredients.

Ingredients:

3 Aconite flowers
2 Ashwinder eggs
12 Baneberries
2 Crocodile Hearts
1 Doxy egg
1 liter of Honeywater
3 sprigs of peppermint
6 drops of human blood
1/2 cup of Syrup of Hellebore
1 drop of Antimony.

Instructions

1) Place the liter of Honeywater in the cauldron and mix counterclockwise until bubbles begin to appear.
2) Mash 12 baneberries until paste and put them to the side to warm up by cauldron.
3) Crack two Ashwinder eggs and place in the cauldron shell and all. Mix clockwise until there are no signs of the shell any longer.
4) Add the first Crocodile Heart (Diced) and two tablespoons of the baneberries and let it boil.
5) When it turns a purple color, begin to mix it and let the heart begin to turn a grey-ish color before mixing the second heart in and repeat process.
6) Add three pieces of the peppermint and mix until the smell is released.
7) Add half the cup of Syrup and mix quickly until the whole process is thickening to the same thickness of blood.
8 ) To create the immediate cooling process while still boiling add the drop of Antimony and it will immediately turn blue.
9) Cut your finger, and allow exactly six drops of blood enter the cauldron. ONLY ONE PERSON CAN PUT IN BLOOD, (IF WORKING IN GROUPS).
10) It will turn a ruby red and close immediately.

"I will test your blood type and your homework is to take this to the Hospital Wing and keep a vial to yourself. You may pair up or work alone if you'd like, it's up to you. Talk to me if you have any questions or concerns now begin!"

Victoria felt numb. Students were going to be pricking their fingers? Not sure what to do, she quickly moved to the pantry to get the ingredients.

As she returned to their table, she gave Tess a fearful look. "I'll do what I can, but...you may have to finish on your own."

Kicking off the process, she added the Honeywater and stirred as instructed. Then she mashed up the berries and made sure to place them close to the cauldron, so they could be heated by the castoff warmth. With mounting nerves, she added the eggs and stirred until they were gone, hoping it was enough.

When it came to the hearts she gulped and took up the knife. The smell was already overwhelming her senses and her gums started to tingle. Not now! Taking care to cut uniformly, she got through the two and added them, with the berries, as directed.

Happy with the color, she turned to Tess, covering her mouth. "You'll have to finish, I don't think I can take much more." She gathered her things quickly, passed by the professor with a small, "Sorry", and left.

Tess felt a bit wary at the potion, it might not be real blood, but the ingredient was it. She saw Victoria do the first half of the potion and as she left she immediately took over the potion.

Picking up the pieces of peppermint, she added them and mixed continuously until the smell was eminent. She then added the syrup, having some difficulty from the thickness of it and she began to use her muscles as much as she could trying to thicken it. She grunted softly as she pulled out to add the drop of Antimony. Her face was hit with the cold air as it began to turn the concoction blue.

She knew that this was the reason that Victoria left, and with the small knife, she cut her finger lightly. She bit her bottom lip tightly forcing herself not to cry out, and dropped six drops before pulling her finger back for she was an easy bleeder. As she wrapped her finger around with an bandaid, she looked to see the potion had turned ruby red and immediately turned off the flame as she finished the potion.

Tabi got everything together for the potion and got to work on it. She left it up to Leshia to get the ingredients prepared.

Tabi was the better brewer and that is why she did that part. Leshia could brew but Tabi preferred to do it herself.

Tabi smirked at Leshia when it came to putting a drop of blood in the potion. Tabi knew how this made Leshia nausea.

Tabi finished up the potion and it looked really good so they bottled it up and were finished.
