Lesson Three - Third Years

For her other two classes this lesson, Natasha was able to use her new and improved pens that she had enchanted over the weekend. In an effort to make the class more hands-on, she had found a spell that would contain the creatures in a pen, allowing the students to interact with them.

Unfortunately this lesson would not permit such freedom. They were learning about Biting Fairies today, and she would not take any chances with her students safety if it was unnecessary. These creatures were tricky little devils that could out maneuver the most advanced of wizards.

They were definitely more dangerous than the Bundimun from the first lesson, so Natasha was opting for a more structured, normal class this time.

As she waited for the students to arrive, she placed a stack of parchment, quills, and writing tablets on a nearby bench for later.

Care of Magical Creatures was generally one of the classes he enjoyed most; so, as he walked across the grounds on a nice day he was pretty upbeat and happy. None of the other students were there yet, and he decided to stand next to the teacher. It was another professor that he had not met before; it seemed like almost all of the professors were different from the year before.

Humphrey Williams has a very vivid imagination, and thoughts of magical creatures always made his mind imagine monsters and beautiful creatures. That was one of the things he loved most about the class. "Hello Professor, my name is Humphrey Williams." he said as he walked up to her.

Victoria was worried that attending this class would no longer be possible for her. Charlie had said to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible, but this class held a special place in her heart. As she hurried down to class, keeping to the shadows as much as possible, she was relieved to find a heavily shaded tree near the clearing.

As she waited for the other students arrive, she readjusted her gloves and hood to make sure she was covered from the sun as much as possible.

To Humphrey's delight, Victoria Rossmund was the next student to arrive. He knew her, and she was a Gryffindor. He walked over to her, and as he did so noticed that she was standing in the shadows. That surprised him, because she wasn't a person to hide. But, some things do change. "Hey Victoria." Humphrey said. "Believe it or not I am actually back at Hogwarts. I've really missed all you guys. It feels good to be back."

Leshia made her way down to where COMC was taking place. Upon entering the classroom area she saw Victoria and Humphrey were already there and so was the teacher. Looking around she wondered what was going to be taught, it was nice to see a new professor in the class.

Leshia walked up to the other two people there. "Hay guys, welcome back Humphrey."

"Hello Leshia, it is great to see you. It feels great to be back at Hogwarts. So how was second year and the first part of this year? I have so much to catch up on?" he asked her. Leshia looked similar to the girl he met first year, but she was taller. And, he noted, so was Victoria. They still seemed to be very friendly towards him though. That thought made him smile just a tiny bit.

Parker sighed as he made his way down the hill to the class, walking over to where everyone else was, he stood to the side awkwardly, not having spoken much to the those around him. He remembered being friendly with Leshia before, but he felt like he didn't know her at all. He looked around, wondering what they'd be doing. He stayed standing where he was, not feeling much like talking to anyone.

"Hey Parker." Humphrey said as he noticed the boy out of the corner of his eye. "Want to come over and talk a little bit man. It's been a while since I've seen you. Everything been going okay. I mean, it has been a year, that is a long time for people our age dude." He waved to him and hoped he would come over to talk with them.

Airen walked to his CoMC class. He generally liked this topic because he got to learn about all the fascinating creatures of this world. He saw Humphrey there. He genially liked his fellow Gryffindor. He was talkative, but hey, perhaps that is what Airen needed.

"Good morning, Professor," he greeted. He nodded to his fellow classmates and Humphrey. He smiled casually at him.

"Welcome back, Humphrey," he said.

Leshia smiled a little at Humphrey a little when she started to talk to her. She was not sure where to start when he asked about everything that had been going on. Missing a whole year does a lot to a person.

"Well Humphrey a lot of things have happened, maybe we can meet after class to talk about them." Leshia smiled

Leshia knew it would be a long discussion and did not think that COMC was the proper place to do it.

Leshia had always like Humphrey, he was friendly after all, but first year he has always been interested in Charlotte she thought.

Natasha couldn't help but smile. She was glad to see the students in a better mood this class. She knew life could get hard, even at 13, but she had faith that these young witches and wizards could beat whatever came at them.

"Alright, class! Now that we are all here, let's begin."

She moved to a row of small cages and started to pull the covers off of them. As she did, the fairy-like creatures inside started fighting against their cages.

"Today we will be looking at Doxies. I want you all to take notes on what you see about them and maybe even a drawing, if you are feeling inspired." She wondered if anyone actually would. "This is not going to be a hands-on class. Can anyone tell me why?"

"Sure Leshia, I would like to meet after class and catch up. Want to meet at the library?" he asked her. Then he turned his attention to the teacher.

"It won't be a hands-on class because Doxies are very poisonous. If you are bitten, it requires an immediate antidote to the poison." Humphrey announced. Thank goodness he had read his course books before he started back.

"Correct, Mr. Williams, 10 points." Natasha looked at her watch, a gift from a muggle friend. "Looks like we've run out of time. For next class, I would like you to write 100 words on Doxies. Feel free to take a few more minutes to have a good look at them in their cages, and use that and your text for the homework."
