Nightly Stroll (Sofia and Horst)

Sofia could not believe that Horst was back, he had been gone for a long time. He was the one person she felt she could talk to about things, she had spoken to the headmistress but she was busy with the new baby and she hated to bother her all the time.

Sofia had found a bench to sit on and she grabbed a book for her to read while she had waited.

Horst had visited the Headmistress of Hogwarts. She agreed to give him the job as as Librarian again, since the position was open. He had been gone, in his home in Germany, for the past year and a half. His family's connections had come after him, they'd threatened him and tried to bring him over to the German side of the war. It took him not more than a second's thought to refuse them, but the problem was he had to protect his aging mother. He'd managed to escape him, but it took more time than he would have thought.

Now, as he was walking across the grounds to meet with Sofia at the Black Lake, he realized how much he had missed her. Sofia was his lone confidant, and she had faced some of the same problems as him. She was sitting on a bench by the lake, reading a book, and a smile broke across his face. Naturally, the sight of her made him nervous. But, he drew in a deep breath and approached her.

"Sofia, you look beautiful. I know you have a lot of questioins as to why I left, and I came here to answer them as best I can. All I can say is I am sorry I had to leave, but it was neceessary for my own protection to do so. So, ask away Sofia." Horst told her. He noticed that she looked sad, and he knew that she must have been lonely without him because he had been without her.

Sofia smiled when she heard Horst come up to her. She felt the need to hug him but she refrained from doing it.

"Horst, you are not looking bad yourself, but don't tell your wife I said that. She might think I am trying to steal her husband.

Sofia had many visions surrounding Horst, but she never held them for fact until she had conformation

"Yes, I have lots of questions, but I will let you tell me what you would like to explain."

Sofia had missed her friend a lot, but was unsure if she was suppose to have missed him as much as she did.

Sofia smiled as she looked out across the lake, "I have missed you."

"Oh Sofia, it is so good to see you doing well. As for my wife, she wouldn't mind you saying that. Because, it would give her an oppurtunity to say it is all her doing. She is the one who picks out my clothes, and keeps me healthy and happy." Horst told her. It was the fact of the matter, she took care of him very well. At times he felt that she almost treated him like a little boy, but he didn't mind.

"If you want me to explain first then that is what I'll do." He sat down next to her. "It is a long story, and it begins with my deceased father. As you know, my family is a long line of purebloods. Well, my father grew up believing that being pureblood made our family better than other families. So, as a result of that, our family has always been a supporter of Durmstrang. Well, Durmstrang is trying to bring me into their school. They have offered me a place there. But I refused, and when I did they threatened me and my family. They have the resources to carry out their threat Sofia. It was not a mere attempt to intimidate as I first suspected." Horst explained.

"Now, I didn't know that they intended to carry out the threat they made. You see, they had threatened to take my wife and son hostage. They know enough about my family to know who they are, and what their schedules are. As well as where we live. I was out one evening checking the protective charms and enchantments around our manor. And, I noticed that three or four of them were not functioning properly. It was supposed to alert when somebody not a family member was on the grounds, but the sound charm had been compltely destroyed. So, people could get onto the grounds without the alarm going off. Also, the charm that repelled and prevented them from entering the property in the first place was also broken. I fixed the charms, but when I went back the next day I noticed that one of the alarms had been tripped." he told her.

"Now I knew that somebody had tried and failed to breach our property; I knew that the Durmstrang Institute intended to follow through on their threat. My family and myself were forced to come to the British Ministry for Magic to help us. I explained what was happening, and why, that is how I convinced them to place a few extra defenses around our property. They agreeed, on the condition that I clean out my property of all dark objects and enchantments. Sadly, because of my family's history, it took my wife and I a full six months to find and remove enough of the spells and charms around the house to pass inspection. Then they protected us, and told me to resume my post at Hogwarts if possible. They placed a man there on duty to watch over things while I am here."

"So, here I am. My family's past nearly allowed my wife and son to be kidnapped. But, for the first time in centuries, it is free of dark magic. And my family feels much safer now we have a form of protection against old friends of my father's. That is who I suspect made the threat, or forced Durmstrang to make the threat. A man who used to be my father's best friend." he told her.

"I've missed you Sofia, and the students here. It feels good to be back." Horst said in a low voice.

Sofia listened to Horst's tale and many of which she had seen in her visions. She loved her little book that kept tract of all her visions because she can always go back and look at them.

She was glad to see that nothing did happen to his wife and son, because that she had seen, but then something could still happen her visions did not have a date stamp on them.

"Well Horst I am glad that your family is ok, a person can never be sure when their past will come back to haunt them" The last part of that Sofia sighed and straightened out her clothes.

Sofia sat there with one leg crossed over the other staring at the lake,

"Many bad things have happened while you have been away."

"The bad part about it is that it isn't even my past. It is my family's and my father's past that is haunting my family at the moment. It makes me sick to think of what my family has done to maintain power and supremacy in the wizarding world." he told her. "You are one of few people who understands what a pureblood dark arts family is like. That is one reason I think we get along so well Sofia." Horst told her in confidence.

Then he noticed Sofia stare out at the lake and say many bad things have happened you have been away. "What kind of bad things Sofia? Since I am returning to staff, I need to know the important things that have happened while I was gone. Can you tell me?" he asked her.

Sofia smiled as he talked abut how well they get along, " Yes, families like ours do and did terrible things, that is why I do what I do now."

Sofia was glad she decided to open her home to the students that needed her, currently she was up to three. She was glad her home was big enough.

Looking out across the lake she sighed again, "Oh my, I have no idea where to even start. Many things have happened."

Sofia was trying to think of everything, "We have had two battles since you left, lost a bunch of students. Anne killed herself, then was brought back to life."

Sofia could not believe everything that had happened while he was gone. The next part she almost mumbled, "Found out my past 9 years were a lie."

"I am in the same boat, that is why I chose to teach here at Hogwarts. To get away from pureblood and Dark Arts mania." Horst told her. There were a lot of ways the two of them were very similar.

"Two battles? What were the outcomes? And how many students died? Not to mention the question of how a student named Anne came back to life? What happened to bring her back, I didn't know that was possible." Horst's mind was spinning with questions. He blurted them out as they popped into his head.

"You found out the past nine years were a lie?!?!" he asked her incredulously. "It, it can't be. How, how could that happen Sofia?"

Sofia had to sigh a little and had to laugh. He was the same Horst he had always been. Always wanting to know everything right now.

"Relax one question at a time, both battles we lost students. I do not like to live in the numbers, one is always too many." Sofia sighed as she told the truth, to be honest the true numbers had never been discussed.

"I have not had a chance to speak with Anne has to how, I have a feeling I don't really want to know." Sofia tried to smile a little.

"I am not sure I am ready to talk about the lie yet, I am still trying to wrap myself around it."

"I know that one is too many, Sofia. Many of them I knew first year, and most of them are exceptional people." he told her. It was true, almost all of the students he'd met in the library he had liked. They were smart, funny, energetic teens and kids. He remembered when he had been like that.

"Ah, I see. I understand how that would be a scary subject for you. It is cruel that somebody did that to you Sofia. Whoever did it must have been a very cold-hearted person." Horst told her. He knew he would try to comfort her. Especially now, that she didn't know how much of her life had been real recently.

"Whenever you are ready to talk I am here. I want you to know that. No matter what the time of day or night, I am always willing to take time out of my schedule to comfort a hurting person." Horst said.

Sofia was glad he was here to talk and she really wanted to talk she was just afraid her weaknesses would come out and she hated when they did that.

"Apparently I have a son who I was made to forget about." Sofia sighed

"Remember when I told you I could never seen anything that was relate to me? Them wiping my memories of my son did that too me." Sofia continued to sigh.

"He is 13 years old now, and when he was taken he was four. The only memories I have now are from when he was born until the day he was taken."

Sofia knew the story gets more complex but was not sure how much Horst wanted to hear.

Horst was glad he had come back, Sofia clearly needed an outlet for her emotions. They had always been similar, and talking to her was comfortable for him as well as her. The tough things in life, they could discuss with each other. "That is the cruelest thing I have ever heard. What is his name Sofia?" he asked her.

Placing his arm around her, he hugged her to his chest. He suspected she wanted to talk to him further about it. Considering it was her son, who she hadn't seen in nine whole years, well he knew if Roran was gone for nine years and he remembered him he would be bawling like a baby.

"Tell me more about him, Sofia. I got you, and I won't let go of you. I would love to search for him with you, maybe we can talk to Professor Smith about it. He could give us advice, and see if he has any information about it." Horst said in a soft voice. "Do you have his name, or general whereabouts? Any suspicions?" he asked.

Sofia sighed when Horst put his arms around her and held her close to his chest, she had not felt this close to someone in a long time. She just wondered why he had to be married.

"Well as far as I know he lives in Germany and is attending Durmstrang. His name is Ivano. It is best at the time to be right where he is."

Sofia sighed and started to cry into Horst chest, "Its just not a good time to bring him home at the moment."

Sofia received a lot of things back when she got those memories, including visions of things around herself and family.

She was such a sweet person, and part of him wished he wasn't married. But, he was, and he would not trade his relationship with his wife and son for anything. All he could be was her friend, and he was glad to be that for her. "I see, Ivano in German. Part of me wonders if we'll be seeing him attack us one day. Not that it is his fault, but he is on the opposite side of the war. Personally, I agree with you, if we tried to take him out of Durmstrang. Well, he probably wouldn't be happy about it, and I am guessing we might be attacked if we tried. Maybe once things with the war die down, if they do I should say."

Holding her, he started to rock her slowly back and forth a little bit. "It isn't, but one day it will be the right time. Lots of work will need to be put into it, to get him back. Also, to have him realize what happened, and why you haven't been there for him. Any way at all I can help, you can always come to me Sofia."

Horst asked her in a soft, gentle voice, "Is there anything else you need to talk about? Besides your son, I would imagine your memories showed you more than just that."
