Nightly Strolls as Usual (Sofia and Horst)

Sofia had a big smile on her face, she was finally going to be able to put her plan into action. She had not heard anything from Horst since his wife left and she wondered how he was doing.

She assumed he would know that she still liked her evening strolls by the lake because that is the one thing about her that had not changed. Getting her memories back had done a lot of damage to her that she did not know about, except it had caused her to be depressed all the time.

She had her book and sat on the bench and waited to see if Horst would show up.

Walking down to their usual meeting spot, Horst felt as if the weight of the world was on his shoulders. His wife, Selena, had left him. According to her, it was because they didn't love each other anymore, at least she didn't love him. He still loved her, and it hurt so much that Selena didn't love him back. She claimed that she had become jealous of Sofia, whom he had identified as a friend. Nothing more than that, never would he have left her. How could he? How could he ever want anybody but Selena Prigio, she had taken his name. But, he knew soon she would go back to being a Prigio, not a Sollmann. That thought hurt him so much, and he was totally at a loss as to how she could leave Roran. They loved each other so much, at least he had thought that before. Now, he just didn't know any longer.

As he got closer to the bench they met at, his chest began to hurt just a bit. Right in the area over his heart, not a lot, but it felt like it was constricted, and he couldn't breathe properly. He was mad about what his friendship with Sofia had caused, it wasn't her fault, but it still made him angry at her. It wasn't fair at all, and he did his best to tamp it down. Sofia may be the only person who would be able to comfort him right now, he knew that deep down.

Sofia had her book out as usual, and he took a seat next to her on the bench. "Sofia, m-my wife. She left me, just with a note. We hadn't been arguing, there wasn't a single sign anything was wrong between us. Then when I get home, I find a note saying she doesn't love me any longer. That she thinks I don't love her. Selena said, that she was jealous of us. Even though I'd told her we were just friends. She thought, that you and I were, I don't know. More than that, I suppose. What bugs me even more, what hurts even more though, is she left our son. Completely abandoned him, Roran loves her so much! How could anybody do that to an eight year old boy willingly?!?!" Horst asked, yelling at the air. It made him so angry.

Breaking down in tears, he put his head in his hands. Now he was telling somebody about it, the emotions were right at the surface. After a minute, he gathered himself, and continued, "I just don't get it. This didn't seem like the type of thing Selena would do. If she ever left me, which I never thought about, I would have said she would either take Roran with her, or ask me to leave. Not this, never just a note, and that's it. Something doesn't add up, or maybe I just didn't know my wife the way I thought I did." admitted, letting the tears

Sofia was really into her book, she had began to think that Horst was not coming tonight. It had began to be a nightly thing with them and Sofia had really begun to enjoy his company. Someone would wonder if that was why she did what she did, not that anything would ever be said.

Next thing Sofia noticed was Horst had finally showed up and started talking about his wife and how she up and left him and it had something to do with Sofia and being jealous.

Sofia put down her book and turned and faced Horst placing her hand on his back and began to rub it.

"Oh Horst, I am so sorry this has happened." Sofia said as she continued to rub.

"How could she have ever thought something was going on between us. We have only ever met for walks and talk."

Sofia was not sure how else to comfort him right now, she needed to make sure she was feeling very upset for him. She even started to have some tears coming down her face.

"Maybe if we quit seeing each other she would come back?" Sofia would hate to loose his friendship but she would try to help.

He was so grateful when Sofia placed a hand on his back, trying to comfort him. Maybe, well, could it be possible his wife was right? Horst did really like Sofia, and she was beautiful. Then he thought of all the memories he had with Selena. No, he was still in love with her, despite that he was sure she didn't love him anymore. His favorite memories, were the ones with Roran in them as well. They had become a love triangle, but not in a bad way. A perfect love triangle, now one of the sides was gone. Nothing, and nobody could replace her as the side.

"I know you are Sofia. If I didn't think you would be sorry, I wouldn't have come. All I need right now is just a friend to talk to, show some compassion. You've always been a friend I could depend on, and always will be." Horst said, smiling at her. The smile disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, in a matter of seconds.

"How am I supposed to know Sofia. She didn't even let on she was even mildly jealous until that note. Selena just shut me out, I had no idea she felt that way. If I did, well, I probably would have stopped talking to you. At least until Selena felt comfortable with me being friends with you. I just don't understand what I did wrong. This is the first time that making a friend has backfired for me Sofia. Generally, the friends I make help me more than they hurt. I don't blame you, but I am frustrated at our friendship right now. It caused the love of my life to leave me without even a proper goodbye. A letter, well, that is nothing. Selena should have at least talked to me in person." he told her, the tears falling thick and fast now. It felt so good to talk to an adult about this. Roran just being there had comforted him, but he couldn't understand. Not the way an adult could.

Sofia began to cry with him a bit, and he was grateful for that. Horst told her what on his mind, "I don't think that would help Sofia. All she would see is a pathetic attempt to get her to come back. Besides, I don't know how to contact her. She didn't say where she was going. Even if I send an owl, I highly doubt she would write back. Maybe not even read what I wrote...". His eyes were beginning to get a bit dryer, his tear ducts nearly empty now. "No, now is the time I need your friendship more than ever Sofia." he said quietly, grabbing her hand and giving it a light squeeze.

Sofia just listened to Horst talk about the love of her life, the old Sofia inside of her felt really bad for Horst how could a woman that was suppose to love her husband do what Selena did to him.

Sofia just held the hand that he has grasped and she tried to smiled a gentle smile for him. For filled with warmth and compassion, but she was trying to think of what to say to him.

"I will always be your friend Horst whenever you will need me." Sofia was trying to be very genuine with all of her responses.

"Maybe she was afraid to find out something out that she didn't want to hear so she chose the easy way out." Sofia wished she would have used a different method now but there was no changing things now.

When Horst talked about sending a letter Sofia had an idea, "What could it hurt to send an owl, most generally they can find everyone."

Sofia thought that if she could get him to send out a owl, it could help her come up with ideas.

He was grateful when Sofia decided to hold his hand. It was a gesture of friendship, the strongest bond that could be made. Friendship was a part of love, a part of family, and a part of being happy in life. "Thank you Sofia, I'm relieved to hear you say that."

"Well maybe she was afraid Sofia, but that doesn't give her the right to just leave. She was never one to run away from a problem. Normally Selena would face it head-on, and I always admired that about her. Now, I don't know what to think, how I should feel. And Roran, he is even worse off than I am." Horst told her, and the anger at his wife was clear in his tone.

"You are right, of course, it can't get any worse than it already is. I doubt I can convince her to come home; yet, at the same time, I must try. If I left I know Selena would try and bring me back. Anyways, how is your son doing Sofia? I know he's still at Durmstrang, but have you kept tabs on him to see how he is?" he asked her, changing the subject. He could only talk about his wife for so long now, it upset him too much.

Sofia continued to hold Horst hand, enjoying how perfect they felt together. She was just listening to Horst trying to understand why his wife would leave him. She really did not know what to say to him, she just figured if she just sat their and listened and showed she cared it would be ok.

"Horst, I am really sorry that she did this too you and I really do not understand why she did it and all I can say is I am here for whatever you need." Sofia said with a smile.

Sofia was glad he changed the subject and began to ask her questions about Ivano.

"Well Ivano is doing really well currently, he actually came to spend the summer with me. Granted it is a little weird for him to be in Germany but we are working on it."

Sofia's friendship was the only thing right now, aside from Roran, that he was happy to have. He needed her, and she knew it. "I know you are Sofia. I'm so glad I have you to talk to about all this. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without you. You'd never leave a husband, would you?" Horst asked.

"He did, that's great! How did the summer go? I'm sure it was odd for both of you, seeing each other after all this time. Must have been good though, having him there." Honestly, being able to spend time with a son after this long must have felt good.

Sofia could not help but blush at all the nice things Horst was saying about her. She knew she had no one else and if it was not for him she would be lost. After he left the last time she was a little depressed especially after the things she found out about Angelus and her.

"Well to be honest, you the only true friend I have around here. If I didn't have your friendship I would be lost." Sofia sighed because it was the truth and she hated to admit her weaknesses.

"Well to start with it was a little uncomfortable because we really didn't know each other, but after awhile it got much for relaxed. He was really happy when I invited his girlfriend over."

For some reason Sofia was blushing, and it caught him off guard. What was embarrassing about what he'd said? "What are you blushing for Sofia?" Horst asked, his insatiable curiosity couldn't help but wonder, and he gave in.

"Same goes for me, you're the only friend I have here as well. I think if I got out of the library more I'd make more friends, but I love those books. Glad I could be here for you Sofia, I'll always be here when you need me." he told her, smiling at her.

He listened as she talked about his son. "To be honest I would be surprised if it wasn't uncomfortable to begin with. Haha, well bringing over a girlfriend would be a good way to win him over. I know I would have been thrilled at that age to have my girlfriend come over. So, Ivan, what's he like?"

Sofia smiled trying to hid her blushing, "I am sorry was I blushing. I am just not used to people saying such sweet things about me."

Sofia was thinking about how perfect it was for them to be here together, they got along so well, why could she have meet him before his wife, son. She also knew it would take awhile until he would get over his wife to even think about giving her a try.

"I am glad that you will always be here for me Horst that is the best thing I could ask for." Sofia smiled and then kissed Horst on the cheek

As for Ivano it was a nice summer and she got to learn a lot about him, "Well he seems to be a very smart boy, but then I knew that from the year that he was here even though I didn't know it was him. He enjoys his studies and he really loves his girlfriend."

Sofia wished she could have a love like that.

"Oh, well you should get used to it. You're a good friend, and you'll just have to live with it." Horst told her, sticking his tongue out at her. "Haven't done that in ages." he admitted, chuckling just a bit.

It was good to be there with one of his only friends. Sofia had always been a great person to talk to. He wondered what he would be doing right now if he wasn't talking to her, probably driving himself crazy thinking about Selena.

"Of course, that's whwat friends are for Sofia." Horst said, smiling at her. It had taken him off guard, and he looked away. The last person to kiss him on his cheek had been his wife.

Horst was happy for Sofia, finally getting to spend time with her son. "That's good, and why wouldn't he be smart? He is your son after all, and you are smart. Ah, it's wonderful he has somebody special in his life. Don't you think so?"

Sofia could not help but laugh a little, and then she had to stick her tongue out too. "I have to agree, it doesn't hurt to act a little immature from time to time. We have to stay young as long as we can."

Sofia could not help but lean her head her head on Horst, "I am too Horst, I would be lost again if you left."

"The only thing I don't know is whether or not he has any part of my ability to see things?"

Sofia was wondering what type of vision she would see on his wife. She also wondered how long she could hold out. She was starting to have inner struggles with her good half and the bad half that has emerged.

"Exactly, glad you agree with me. Some people our age just don't enjoy themselves like they should. More much more fun to act immature on occasion."

Sofia leaned her head on him, and that really surprised him. But, he just thought it was because she had missed him as a friend, he didn't realize it might be more than that. "I'm not going anywhere soon, Sofia. The only place I might go is to try and talk to my wife."

"That is a gift he could have, do you know how to test him to see if he has it?" Horst asked, he didn't know that much about Divination.

Sofia smiled as she thought about being immatue, "Yes I believe it is very important to feel young."

Sofia almost smirked when he said that he was going to go and talk to his wife, she wondered how that was going to happen.

"Do you have any idea where she would have gone?". Not that Sofia needed to know that.

"Well he has two powerful parents so it would be interesting to discover what he can do, ". Sofia wondered if he would even say.

"Feel young, we aren't old yet. Still got a couple years til that happens I think. At least I hope so, Roran is getting awful big..." Horst trailed off, thinking about his son. He was trying to be tough, not let show how much he missed his mom, but he could tell. "Roran's taking it so hard, he's so much quieter than normal.

Sadly he didn't, and that was part of what bothered him. She wouldn't go to her parents, he knew that much. "I have no clue actually, but I am going to send her an owl. It should find her, and maybe I can get her to meet me somewhere." Horst shrugged, it wasn't much of a plan, but it was all he had. Maybe he could ask the Headmistress to look for her.

"Yes it would be interesting, I can't say I know much about Divination though. Not a subject that I liked to be honest." he admitted.

Sofia knew she didn't feel young anymore even though they were not even close to middle age for witches and wizards.

"Well some days I feel old." Sofia sighed

Sofia was listening to Horst talk about trying to meet his wife some where just to talk to her and Sofia knew that would never be possible because she would never get an owl.

"I am sure your wife will be back before the week is out, once she gets that owl."

Sofia knew what she had to do, she couldn't do this anymore. Listening to Horst talk she knew that he would never love her like he loves his wife. She was having an internal struggle with herself and was beginning to have a headache.

"Sometimes having the ability to see things is not the best." Sofia sighed

Sofia had to put her head down in her lap, the pain in her head started to get really bad, it felt like her head was going to blow up. She was glad to have gotten her memories, but what it had done to her is killing her she knew what she needed to do.

"I need to go, I have to take care of something." Sofia tried to smile through her splitting headache

"I know what you mean, I do too some days. Working with all the kids here does tire you out." Horst sighed, he enjoyed his job, but kids could be a handful at times.

"Haha, yea, riiight." he replied sarcastically. "Selena left, I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I don't know if she would come back. It kills me to admit that, I don't though, she might really not love me any longer." Tears were starting to brim over, and he wiped them off quickly.

Sofia looked like she was in pain, he could see it in her eyes. "Are you okay Sofia?" he asked her quietly, not wanting to be too loud if she had a headache.

"A gift and a curse." Horst nodded, seeing the future could be a terrible thing.

When she laid her head in her lap it was obvious that she was in terrible pain. It must be a headache, migraine maybe. "Alright, I'll see you later Sofia. Get that headache checked out." he told her.
