Lesson Three - First Years

Darcie had a lovely Christmas, she had spent the day itself with her father and then went to visit her friend Luther, she had thought that he would like to be around someone when it was Christmas as it didn't seem like he would have too many friends to call in on.

Now however she was more than happy to be back at school, it was good to be here again and she was glad that she had missed the rampage of Wraiths that raven lead through the school on Christmas.

Biting her lip she tapped her rainbow painted nails on the desk in front of her, she was so excited to begin the lesson today, turning she wrote on the board the lesson topic;

'Black Mirrors'

Subtly slinking into the class, Ivan looked at the board before silently taking the seat furthest in the back. He had never heard of Black Mirrors before... Taking out his parchment and quills, he prepared for an intense lesson.

Darcie was more than surprised to see a student in her first year lesson and she could not wipe the smile from her face, it was nice to be able to see that people were interested in the lessons that she was teaching.

Stepping up from behind the desk she stood in front of it and beamed at the newest boy;

"Hey there, my name is Darcie and I will be your Dark Art's professor for this course, any questions, about anything or if you need any help, you know where to come." she said with a happy smile.

Looking at the board she turned her attention back to Ivan; "So Ivan, do you know anything about black mirrors?"

Surprised by the lack of formality, Ivan didn't know how to react for a few seconds, closing his eyes for a second, he tried to dredge up anything he knew about black mirrors.

Opening his eyes, Ivan looked the professor in the eyes, "Black Mirrors are magical artifacts. Looking into them is not advised, and there is a spell to distinguish a Black Mirror from a normal mirror, but I have forgotten its incantation, professor Darcie."

Closing his mouth, Ivan hoped it was not clear that he didn't have a clue what Black Mirrors really were. Everything he had said was a gamble based on what he thought was logical.

Now he just had to hope he hadn't made a fool of himself.

Darcie smiled gently at Ivan when he gave her his answer to her question, it was nice to see that although he seemed a little nervous after he had told her what he thought, that he had the confidence to be able to express his ideas to her anyway.

"That's a very good answer Ivan, 10 points for Geschick house, Black Mirrors are very dangerous for most wizards and witches to look in, but for someone like me, a Seer, it can be used to enhance the visions and readings that we take."

Writing what she had just said down on the board, Darcie turned back to Ivan and continued to speak;

"Do you know what the black mirrors might allow a Seer to do that they can't do already?" she asked kindly "Don't worry if you can't think of anything."

10 Points? Great! Ivan had earned his first points for Geschick house! And his answer hadn't been bad either.

Emboldened, Ivan thought over the question. Dangerous for normal people and a tool for Seers. Hmm...

"They can umm... show you the darker side of people? And if a non-Seer looks into them... They umm... go mad or something like that?" Ivan hesitantly spoke, he really didn't know this. Hopefuly the professor wouldn't take his sorely earned points.

Darcie smiled gently and she nodded her head, she was very happy that Ivan was at least trying to answer the question that she had asked him, and the answer that he had given was so close to being correct as well;

"Well done for trying Ivan, 5 points to Geschick, people who look into the mirror and do not have the necissary power or skill to weild it can be mentally harmed you're right!" she smiled happily and wrote it up on the board.

Then she turned back to Ivan after writing what she was about to say now down as well, following his own answer;

"When a Seer with the correct power looks into the mirror they can look into anybodies future and even their own, which causes them to be more powerful and far more dangerous than if they had the random visions that most do." Darcie smiled

Looking at the clock she saw it was near the end of the lesson; "Could you please write down all of the notes on the board, make sure you look over them too."

Happy with the extra points he earned, and the professor her friendly attitude, Ivan did as instructed.

Looking at the board, he noticed he had missed a part of the possible effects a non-Seer might suffer from when trying to use a Black Mirror.

Writing it down, and feeling somewhat confident, Ivan decided to ask a personal question.

Looking up to the professor, he spoke quietly, "Professor Darcy, do you have a Black Mirror? And could you use it to look into my future?"

Closing his mouth, Ivan felt his stomach plummet as his confidence left him. How rude of him to ask something so personal!

Darcie looked up from the essay she was marking when she heard Ivan ask her a question, she blinked a little bit and then smiled gently, the truth was she did not have a black mirror and she hopefully would never have one.

But that didn't mean that she couldn't tell Ivan's future if he wanted her to.

"I'm sorry but no I don't have a black mirror, but I can certainly tell your future if you want me to!" she grinned "I always love giving people readings."

Looking up at the time, Darcie smiled gently and stood up;

"Your notes are lovely Ivan." she said, peering at them "Another 10 points to Geschick. As for your reading, you can come and visit me in my office and I'll be happy to give you one. Until then, class dismissed."
