Lesson Four - First Years Empty Lesson Four - First Years

Post by MarkuzDobcek Tue Jul 24, 2012 12:21 am

Walking into his class, Markuz sighed. He hated teaching first years. They had so little background knowledge!

Markuz waved his wand towards the board, "Glisseo, Flick towards target and focus on complete target area. Makes the target slippery. Spell can be used for both fight and flight."

Markuz place a few boxes on his desk. They held objects ranging from small to big. The smallest held simple pieces of chewing gum, the largest held a few big marble slabs that were 9 feet in each direction, they would have to be levitated out by Markuz, as the box automatically shrunk them down to mere 1 feet pieces.

Sighing, Markuz sat down. Summoning a beer, he closed his eyes and settled down to wait for his students.

Lesson Four - First Years Empty Re: Lesson Four - First Years

Ivan walked into his Transfiguration classroom. With an enthusiastic smile, he sat down and immediately began copying what was on the board.

When Ivan finished his copying, he pulled out his book and opened it on the correct pages.

Ivan started to read up on the theory behind the spell. Judging from the fact that the professor was more occupied with his beer and a nap, Ivan knew he would be expected to do most of the work on his own.

Continuing his reading, Ivan couldn't help but smile. He could grow to like this type of class.

Othala walked into the lesson, she had thought that it would be best that she followed lots of people to the lessons, knowing that it would be time for them to go and see their teachers at the start of the next lesson.

Shuffling through the corridors she pushed open the door to the classroom and she blinked a little, she was the only one here, and she looked at the teacher with a confused look.

As she sat down, Othala swung her legs too and fro, waiting to hear the professor starting the lesson.

Markuz opened his eyes, only to spot a meagre two students sitting in the class. Sighing, he Vanished his beer and sat straight.

"Your names and Houses please? You both get five points for early attendance. We will not be starting the class for a few more minutes, as we might be joined by a few more students. Feel free to talk or otherwise occupy yourself for a few minutes."

Ivan looked up as he heard the professor speak.

"Ivan Borislaw, Geschick House. Excuse me, professor, but what is your name? This is my first Transfiguration class you see."

Ivan then turned so he was watching the rather peculiar looking girl who had entered shortly after him. She seemed to have some tattoos of some sort.

"Hello, I'm Ivan. Do you like Transfiguration?"

Othala blinked when the man asked her a question she knew her name of course and she had to look at her badge to remember what house she was in, although she was unsure of how she would pronounce it, hopefully she would get it right.

"Othala Thormund, R-risiko."

When the boy spoke to her, she turned and blinked at him for a few moments before answering;

"Me not do figuration before. You like?" she asked.

Ivan was puzzled at the girl her somewhat odd behavior. She didn't seem to know her house name. And when she responded to his question, he was sure that she didn't know any decent grammar.

Smiling gently, he replied softly, "Yes, I like transfiguration a lot. It's my favorite subject. Are you new at Durmstrang?"

Othala nodded her head when the nice boy spoke to her, she was glad that she had come to this class because the professor seemed real nice and maybe he would be able to teach her how to use her stick properly!

"Yes I be new at Durmstrang." Othala smiled "I like it here. Florence is a nice man, he kind to me. You like Florence too?"

Ivan was puzzled for a second when Othala mentioned some person named Florence. After a few seconds, he realized she meant the Highmaster.

After overcoming his surprise, Ivan smiled gently at Othala, who was clearly a bit weird in the head for some reason. Still, she seemed nice.

"I don't know the Highmaster, uhm, Florence personally. I have never spoken to him. Have you?"

Othala smiled happily and she swung her feet from her chair, she wondered why the Proffessor was being so quiet but she didnt mind, the nice boy was interesting and she liked talking to him because he seemed like he liked talking to her too.

"I spoke Florence, he say I'm special, he nice to me." she beamed "He spoke to the Proff-Proffs about me no speaking good...you think, me weird?" Othala asked sheepishly.

Seeing the girl swing around in her seat, Ivan smiled softly.

When Othala asked him if he found her weird, Ivan had to suppres a grimace. He did think that. But he also thought that there was probably a reason for that.

"I think you're... I think the Highm- erh, Florence, is right. You are special. But being special is not bad. Being special can be good. I don't know why you speak a bit strange, but you probably have a valid reason."

Turning around to look at the professor for a second, he wondered why the professor wasn't starting his class yet.

Post by MarkuzDobcek Wed Jul 25, 2012 7:16 am

Markuz sighed. It seemed as if he wouldn't be getting any more students. Sighing deeply, he stood up.

"Alright, pay attention. We're beginning with class. Now then, as you can see on the board, we are going to see the Glisseo spell today. I will demonstrate the wand movement twice. Look closely, you need to be capable of replicating it after I have showed you twice."

Markuz levitated a 9 feet marble slab into the air. Facing the slab, making sure his students could see his movements in profile, Markuz flicked his wand towards the target. Repeating the movement, he clearly intoned "Glisseo."

"Now, feel free to come up and feel the marble slab. You will notice that it is slippery. This spell can be used on the ground your opponent is moving towards or standing on. You can use it on your opponent his weapon. You can use it on a knife or blade, so that it will not cut you, but merely slip out of your hand."

Sitting down again, Markuz spoke one final time.

"Try the spell now. If you have questions or do not succeed, try again. If you still fail, read the correct chapter in your coursebook, then try again. If you still fail, raise your hand and I will assist you. If you still fail, that's too bad, you fail today's class."

Ivan paid full attention as professor Dobcek spoke. Watching the professor demonstrate the wand movement, and then the complete spell, Ivan felt that he would easily succeed in this spell. Transfiguration was his best class after all.

Walking up to the front of the class, Ivan felt the marble slab. Now knowing what the result should feel like, he walked towards the professor his desk. Taking a piece of gum from the professor's desk, he went back to his seat.

Sitting down, Ivan place the gum on his desk. Practicing the flick of his wand a few more times, he smiled. This was going to work!

Taking careful aim, Ivan visualized his result and he did the spell, "Glisseo!"

Trying to pick up the piece of gum, to see if he had been succesful, Ivan beamed. It had immediately slipped out of his hand.

Grinning with his succes, Markuz stood up to walk towards the professor his desk again. He would try something larger now. The box with old books looked like a good next target...

Othala listened to the man in front of the classroom like Florence had told her too when they spoke, but really she just wanted to run around and look in all of the cupboards, however she knew that she would be told off if she did that so she stayed still.

When he told her what to do, Othala picked up her stick, looked at it for a moment, before she decided to try out the incantation;

"Glisseo!" she said quietly "Glisseo, Glisseo, Glisseo."

Walking up the the Professors desk she took a piece of gum and placed it on her table, flicking the wand towards it she repeated the incantation 'Glisseo!' and she picked up the piece of gum, giggling when it fell out of her hand.

Swinging her legs off her chair again, Othala grinned widely and tried to keep picking up the gum, purely because she had nothing else to do.

Markuz smiled as he saw his students succeed. Ivan had come up to feel the slab he had used to demonstrate, before trying the spell and acing it. Othala had simply done the spell and succeeded immediately.

"Five points to Geschick and Five points to Risiko."

Markuz frowned when he saw that where as Ivan had continued to try larger objects, moving for a box with old books, Othala had simply swiveled in her seat and she was now playing with a piece of gum.

Markuz decided to take a wait-and-see approach for now, as the girl was clearly a bit special.

Technically, she had succeeded with today's assigned task. She wouldn't be gaining her house any more points this way though.

Ivan smiled when he heard the professor award his house another five points. Picking up one of the old books, Ivan turned around to walk back to his seat.

He noticed that Othala was playing with her gum. Ah well, she had to do what she felt like doing. The professor didn't say anything about it, so why should he?

Sitting down, Ivan tried the Glisseo spell on the book. Testing it, he found that he had only partially succeeded. He had been focusing on the cover of the book, so that was the only part that had become slippery.

Refocusing, Ivan tried again. This time, he was succesful. With a grin, he stood up. Time for another target.

Othala looked around and she saw that the boy was still trying to do the spell again, she began to wonder if she should be doing the spell once more, but she had not been told to, surely the professor would have been clever enough to tell them to keep doing the spell on different things?

Maybe we was another silly person like Florence had told her about, but she held up her hand and when prompted she asked;

"Are we using spell on more than one thingy?" she asked "You never told me so, if we supposed to, you should tell us."

Markuz looked on with a contented smile as Ivan succeeded in doing the spell again. As the boy moved to come and pick up another object, he saw Othala raise her hand.

After prompting her, and deciphering her somewhat childish language, he had to suppres a scowl. Was it not obvious that they were supposed to try the spell on multiple objects? After all, he had place multiple boxes on his desk, had he not?

Smiling politely, Markuz spoke, "You are allowed to try the spell on more than one object. Succeeding is enough to pass, however, if you want to earn your house some extra points, it would be wise to try the spell on more objects."

Realizing that he hadn't awarded Ivan yet, he spoke again, "10 points to Geschick for good spellwork, Ivan."

Post by Othala Thormund Wed Jul 25, 2012 9:29 am

Othala blinked a little bit, and although she didn't understand much of what the mean man was saying, she decided that he probably did want her to do more spells on different things, so she would do, and she would show the mean man that she was good at what she could do.

She made a note to talk to Doctor about the mean man, and see if he could do anything about what he was doing in his lessons.

"Mkay." she smiled, widely, so that her eyes crumpled with the force of the smile, and she took out a book from her bag and quite easily closed her eyes, focused herself, and imagined the surface of the book changing, visualising the change in her mind as she completed the incantation again;

'Glisseo.'

Moving her hand over the book she giggled "Oh looky I did it again!" she said happily.

Markuz saw Othala blink confusedly. He knew then and there that he would have to adjust his normal attitude, as this girl would clearly not know how to deal with it.

Observing as she took a book from the box on his desk, Markuz eyes widened slightly when the girl tried the spell and immediately succeeded.

"Five points for Risiko, for getting the spell to work on such a big object as the second person, Miss Thormund. Keep up the good work."

Reaching the professors desk, Ivan saw Othala succeed with an old book as well. Smiling gently at her, he looked over the table for a second.

Smiling when the professor awarded him ten points, Ivan turned to the hovering slab of marble that still hung in the air. Walking to the other side of it, he tested if it had been affected by the professor his Glisseo. Noticing that it hadn't, Ivan prepared to try the spell again.

Closing his eyes for a second, Ivan visualized the result before incanting "Glisseo!"

Seeing the spell strike the marble slab, Ivan darted forward.

Feeling as much of the surface as he could, he couldn't find a single spot that was not slippery.

Proudly turning to the professor, he softly asked, "Professor Dobcek, sir, could you please check if I missed a spot?"
