Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years Empty Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years

Evangeline, for some unknown reason even to herself had been asked to be a subsitite teacher for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as they were very understaffed, and she sighed as she merely sat down at the desk that was provided and looked out over the cauldrons.

The fact she knew almost next to nothing about potions was something that the Headmistress didn't seem to mind about. Looking over the book that had been left, Evangeline's expression stayed it's same stoic manner and she merely waited for the students to come into the classroom.

Most of the time children didn't really like her, she had always put it down to the fact she was a reaper...but now she supposed she would find out. It turned out that today the students would be learning about;

Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years Empty Re: Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years

Lucas entered the room and sat down on a seat. He looked up at the board and saw what they were learning today. As he moved his eyes to see if anyone had entered, he saw that the professor seemed... well... she looked quite odd.

Thinking that the professor might be strict, he turned to the door and waited for the rest to arrive.

Evangeline stood up from her desk and blinked at the student in her class for a few moments before she decided that the lesson had better begin, turning to the board she wrote up the recipe for the potion that they were going to be making today;

'1 Grindylow Paw
5 Mermaids Scales
2 Icicles
3 Drops of Faerie Blood
Base Potion

1. Add the base potion to a medium heated cauldron, wait until the mixture is shimmering a grey colour before you add the first ingredient, this should take 5 minutes or so.
2. Then you must add the mermaids scales one at a time into the potion, you will see the potion turn a deeper shade of blue with each scale that you add.
3. Stir the potion three times clockwise, then add the two icicles into the cauldron turning up the heat to a high temperature until they have melted.
4. Turn the cauldron to a low heat and add the drops of faerie blood, the potion should now be a dark purple colour.
5. The final step is to add the grindylow paw, continuously stir the potion clockwise until it is black in colour, then stop, and serve the potion in a vial.

"I am Evangeline Webb, I have been instructed to oversee your school work in the subject potions, this is your task for today, ingredients are on my desk, you are to begin."

Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years Empty Re: Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years

Lucas nodded at the last few instructions and stood up to get the ingredients. He felt odd, being so close to the woman. He shook the thought off of his head. Doing bad at Potions under Professor Webb's watch wasn't exactly what he wanted.

Lucas walked back to his seat and organized the ingredients. He added the base potion into his cauldron, which he had turned to medium heat, and waited until it turned gray. He scooped up the mermaid scales with his hands and put them inside the cauldron, one by one, the potion turning a deeper shade of blue each time he added a scale.

He looked up at the board for the next instruction. Lucas stirred the potion three times, clockwise, turned up the heat to 'high,' put the icicles in and waited for it to melt.

As they melted, he put the cauldron to low heat and added 3 drops of faerie blood. The potion slowly turned dark purple. He finally added the Grindylow paw and stirred the potion clockwise until it slowly turned gray.... dark gray... and, finally, black. Lucas put the potion in a vial carefully and handed it to the professor.

Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years Empty Re: Potions Lesson One - Fourth Years

Evangeline sighed gently, the boy was good at making potions and she knew that she would have to give him lots of housepoints because he had been so thorough in the making of today's potion, however she knew that the other students in her other class had been just as good in the making of their potions.

Looking at the time, Evangeline saw it was the end of the lesson and she smiled gently at the boy;

"25 points to Gryffindor house for a well made potion, thank you for your attention this lesson, and the class is now dismissed."
