Second Lesson - First Years Empty Second Lesson - First Years

Post by Viktor Nickel Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:18 am

Viktor sat down in his seat behind his desk, very annoyed. He was still recovering from being held captive by the British for two weeks and a major battle before that. And what did his glorious fatherland do? They sent him back to the school immediately. Some terrible excuse about educating the next generation. He had already written the topic on the board.

Alys entered the classroom, trying to stifle a yawn. If the first lesson had been any indication, this class would be like her Muggle history lessons. However, as she made her way to the back row, her eyes caught the word written on the board in front of the class.

War

Hmm, maybe this class would be more interesting, she thought as she settled in her chair, staring curiously at the blackboard and then at the Lehrer.

Viktor, for once, was quite pleased with having to teach this lesson. Even if it was literally because he'd blowed the textbook up into small pieces. Yawning, he pointed to the word on the board,

"Class... this is what the history of the world is most often characterized by." he told them firmly, "If I asked you to name me five, world-changing, financial sanctions you could perhaps get two. If, however, I ask you to name me five, world-changing, wars you can do it easily. Provided you're not retarded."

He looked at the class with a scowl,

"You might have to prove that you're not..." he pointed to a girl, Alys, "Give me the names of five world-changing wars. Muggle wars preferably."

Alys blanched at being singled out from the back row. But she supposed he wouldn't be muck of a teacher if he didn't know what was gong on at the back of his class. Hurriedly the girl tried to recall all her Muggle history lessons that she had slept through in school before arriving at Durmstrang.

"Uh..." she began, trying to think back to what Papa had told her. Or rather, what she had tuned out. "There were two world wars, which involved both wizards and Muggles...." The blonde cast around for more but could only think of wizarding conflicts. "There was also the first and second dark war involving the Dark Lord, ended both times by Harry Potter, first as a baby then as a man." That made four, so she needed one more.

"Umm.... I think there was also conflicts in Asia, in middle eastern countries about... land?" The girl was clearly grasping for straws but she hadn't expected the question. She hoped the Lehrer wouldn't refute her answers too horribly. She had tried her best, after all.

Viktor was at first hopeful for the girl's answer but towards the end of her answer he began to despair. Sighing a little bit, he nodded, holding a hand up for her to stop,

"Thank you Miss Diederich." he told her, "That was a good attempt and you did manage to get two wars correctly. Both the first and second world wars have included both a magical and a muggle side."

He shrugged a little,

"The conflicts started by the Dark Lord Voldemort, however, are not considered to be wars." he told the class quietly, "Can anyone tell me why this is?"

Trying to redeem herself, the witch tried to answer again. Safe in the knowledge that she was at least attempting these questions.

"Because it wasn't between countries and only contained within England?"
