Lesson Three (First Years) Empty Lesson Three (First Years)

Post by Richard Romain Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:05 pm

Richard yawned a little as he sat down on the edge of his desk to wait for his class. Each table had a small collection of matches on them. Six matches for each student, no more and no less. With these six matches, Richard was going to teach them the next most important stange of transfiguration.

Lesson Three (First Years) Empty Re: Lesson Three (First Years)

Post by Tess McCartney Tue Jan 10, 2012 6:32 am

Tess walked into the classroom and found herself surprisingly being the first student. She saw the Professor in front of her, and she let out a small smile. She had been doing the reading, but found herself still not done with the book.

She sat down in the very first row and took her books out. She noticed that this atmosphere was more casual, and that did make her somewhat more relaxed as well.

Lesson Three (First Years) Empty Re: Lesson Three (First Years)

Post by Alice Carroll Lane Tue Jan 10, 2012 6:39 am

Alice was reeling with the fact that she had gone to her decidedly two favorite classes today already. She was curious about the next one that she had, Transfiguration.

She walked into the room and found that at the front stood the Professor. He was rather dark looking, a little bit on the pale side, and he was waiting with an unnerving patience.

Next, Alice noticed that Tess was sitting at a table and that she was by herself. The Gryffindor was pleased to see that the classroom was not divided by house. With gusto she went and sat by her Slytherin friend. She threw her satchel on the table with a bang and plunged into the chair. "Hey Tess. Long time, no talk. Finally a class we can sit together in!"

Alice opened her satchel and pulled out the necessary books.

She smiled widely seeing her friend there. She was distracted from her thoughts about the Patronus, as soon as she saw her.

"So true! I'm so glad we can!" she said.

She felt nervous about talking, especially since Professor Romaine was so close, so she simply sat there looking at her book and gripping her hand lightly.

Airen peered into the classroom. When he found that there were only two other students in the classroom he made his way to sit at the front. He'd missed last lesson due to an...unexpected situation.

Taking out his quill, he nodded at Professor Romain and poised his hand to take the necessary notes.

Lesson Three (First Years) Empty Re: Lesson Three (First Years)

Post by Guest Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:31 pm

Tabi was starting to get a little tired today with all this busy work from the other classes. Walking into Transfiguration she noticed that Tess was the only other Slytherin that was in the class. As in her classes where she had a choice she picked a seat in the front.

As she sat down she noticed the 6 matches sitting in fron of her and wondered what on earth these were for. As she pulled out her parchment and quill she looked over at Tess and with a nod of her head as to say hi. Tess may have made her feel insulted earlier but she was not going to ignore her she was in her house.

Looking at the matches she was still contemplating what on earth they were going to do as she waited for the teacher to start.

Post by Corinne Girard Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:45 pm

Corinne was in no hurry to get to transfiguration- in fact she was hoping that she would be late, but when she stepped inside she noticed that the lesson hadn't even started. "Zut," Corinne muttered to herself, nodding her head at Prof. Romain and spotting Tabi, she walked over to the table next to her.
She sat herself down in the seat next to Tabi, before she also spotted Tess, discreetly sending her a wink. She felt sort of close to Tess after she had comforted her, and she knew that Tess would possibly get the information as to why she was crying out of her eventually, but that was not any time soon.
"'Allo Tabi," Corinne greeted her, attempting to make small talk whilst she waited for the class to begin. "'Ow are you?" She asked.

Post by Guest Tue Jan 10, 2012 2:50 pm

Salina stepped into the classroom and was dissapointed to see that Leshia was not there, but she did spot Leshia's twin, Tabi, who Leshia had expressed she was treated badly by. This didn't make Salina feel all to friendly towards her, and she was currently feeling cold towards her twin, so she completely ignored everyone else in the classroom as she took a seat and stared down at the matches in front of her, wondering what they were for.

Pxyis spotted Tess, but she felt very loner-ish today, so she went into the back corner of the room and sat down, not taking in anything but her hands which were on the desk in front of her, and she placed her feet on her bag.
Leaning her head against the wall, she let her eyes drop shut. She was exhausted from all her other lessons she had today, and to top it all off she had slept terribly the night before.

Tabi almost felt like placing her head upon the table that is how tired she was gettting. She just wanted this class to get over with. She looked around the room and was glad that she didn't see Leshia in the class with her.

She thought she was all alone in her thoughts until she heard that strong french accent. 'Allo Tabi," Corinne greeted her, attempting to make small talk whilst she waited for the class to begin. "'Ow are you?" She asked.

"Well I suppose Corinne I am doing just find, I am here and breathing" Tabi stated with a bit of shortness in her voice.

"How are you doing?" Tabi almost asked to smugly

Post by Charlotte Smith Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:42 pm

Charlotte hurried into her class, she didn't want to be late for Uncle Richards class! That just wouldn't do at all! She was also excited for this class because it was one of the ones that she knew there was no seating assignment and although she did enjoy sitting with her friends Tess and Pyxis, Charlotte missed Airen.

Seeing that nobody was sitting next to him she smiled warmly at her other friends from Slytherin before slipping into the seat beside him with a happy sort of smile on her face.

"Hey Airen, do you mind if I sit here?"

Lesson Three (First Years) Empty Re: Lesson Three (First Years)

Post by Richard Romain Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:38 am

Richard looked out over his class a few more times as they all settled into their places. He raised an eyebrow at the way some of them acted and rolled his eyes a little bit. Some of these children were just going to talk his lesson away, he just knew it. Clapping his hands once, with a wandless amplification charm to make the sound louder, Richard stood in front of his class,

"In the last few lessons you have been working on non-organic transfiguration. Non-organic to non-organic and so on." he paused before gesturing to six matches on his desk, "That ends today. Today you will be learning non-organic to organic. And living."

He pointed his wand at the small pile of wooden matches on his desk,

"Botain." he declared loudly so that all of his students could hear him. The six matches began to merge together, as if liquid, before they arranged themselves into the shape of a slowly twitching stick insect. He picked up the small creature and it scurried around in the palm of his hand, "You shall turn your matches into a stick insect with that incantation."

He closed his hand, as if to squash the bug, but before he had even half closed his fist it had returned to being matches, which dropped onto his desk ready to be used again. Richard turned back to his class,

"The wand movements are simple." he instructed them firmly, "One clockwise turn and then a simple flick downwards. You must speak the incantation clearly and firmly. Why? Because it is very similar to this spell."

He pointed his wand at the matches,

"Butain." he said firmly. The matches glowed white for a second before popping into pieces of confetti, "Incorrect... Boo-Tain. Correct... Boe-Tain. You may begin."

Post by Guest Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:29 am

Tabi listened to Professor Romain talk about the transfiguration spell to basically make a walking stick. Then he went on to explain about doing the spell.

"The wand movements are simple." he instructed them firmly, "One clockwise turn and then a simple flick downwards. You must speak the incantation clearly and firmly. Why? Because it is very similar to this spell."

After he explained the movements and talkes about the similar spell. This is the one thing that Tabi did have problems with is getting one spell pronouced as another

The Professor Romain explained how to pronouce it.

"Incorrect... Boo-Tain. Correct... Boe-Tain. You may begin."

Tabi picked up her wand and pointed at the stick. Turned her wrist the once clockwise with a quick flick. "Bow-tin" looking at the sticking she got nothing.

Post by Tess McCartney Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:16 am

She was nervous, for she had missed the first two lessons. Nonetheless she paid attention, especially because she respected him all so much. Not because he was a professor, but he was also helping her in her goal and she appreciated that.

"The wand movements are simple." he instructed them firmly, "One clockwise turn and then a simple flick downwards. You must speak the incantation clearly and firmly. Why? Because it is very similar to this spell."

She heard his words and took out her wand. She didn't even try to say the word, because in her opinion her wand movements needed to be accurate enough to try and then she would work on the word. Her dark wooden wand and she began to swish her wand. She practiced it trice especially the flicking.

"Incorrect... Boo-Tain. Correct... Boe-Tain. You may begin."

"Boo-teen" she whispered and frowned seeing it fail.

She murmured the word in different ways.

"Bewtain, boo-teen, bewtain, bewtain, boe-tain"

She nodded to herself at the last pronunciation and tried once more.

"Botain" she murmured.

The matches began to shake and began to move around, but because of her murmuring it was enunciated enough and it fell on the table once more.

Alice was concentrating hardest on her matches. However, she couldn't quite figure out which way clockwise was. She twirled her wand several times and let out a frustrated groan. Once she got the circular motion down she pronounced the words.

"Boe-tain" She said.

But the matches remained on the table.

Alice let out another groan.

"Boe-TAIN" She said circling and jabbing her wand toward the matches.

They remained on the table in their straight row, as if mocking Alice. Alice ran a hand through her hair in frustration. This was going to be a long day.

Pxyis listened to Prof. Romain as he explained how to do it, before looking down and attempting it herself. She picked up her wand and did a clockwise turn like instructed then flicked her wand downwards at the matches. "Boe-tain," said Pxyis firmly, but nothing happened.

She did the clockwise turn and downwards flick again. "Boe-tain!" She snapped at the matches. They began to quiver, and Pxyis almost smiled for she thought they would change, but nothing happened to them. She began to flick her wand over and over. "Boe-tain, Boe-tain, Boe-tain!" She sighed in frustration when still nothing happened.

Very slowly, she mimicked her Professor's movement when he had done it and said in a similar tone of voice, "Butain," she said. The matchsticks flattened themselves out, before popping back into their original shape. She sighed. This was not going to be easy.

Salina knew that she was going to fail at this exercise before she'd even started, but she gave it her best shot anyway.

Turning her eyes to the matchsticks, she twirled her wand in the wrong direction (anti-clockwise) and flicked upwards. She hadn't really been paying attention. "Boo-tain." She said, and of course the matchsticks did nothing. She repeated her movements.

"Butain, Boe-tain, Buu-tain," nothing happened each time and she pinched the bridge of her nose between thumb and fore-finger, trying to restrain her anger from being released on the matchsticks. "I am calm," she muttered to herself, and tried again, this time making the right movements but still the wrong words.

"Bone-tain," she tried, and of course nothing happened still. "Ugh," she muttered.

Airen looked at Charlotte. He hadn't seen her in awhile. He nodded in agreement with a warm smile on face. He patted the seat next to him.

He listened closely to Professor Romain. He watched the movements closely with calculating eyes. When the Professor finished, Airen had written down the correct pronunciation and wand movements. He placed the notes in between Charlotte and him. He practiced the wand movement a few times. Satisfied, he closed his eyes and said, "Botian."

When he thought he got it correct, he tried the spell. The sticks shuddered, but they didn't change. Confused, he checked the notes again. Noticing that he forgot the flick downward, he tried again.

"Botain," he said. The sticks shuddered, then they seemed to be drawn together by a magnetic force. They melted and merged into the shape of the insect, then they solidified. The creature was still for a moment before it began to walk. The long, slender body moved slowly. Airen gently placed his hand in front of the insect, and it walked on top of his hand. Smiling at the ticklish feeling it the gave him, he lifted his hand off the table and let the walking stick walk on his hand as he turned it over. He set it back down on the table and watched as it walked on his desk.

While peeking into the room seeing the other students already at work, he slipped in the room, trying to sneak in, completely fed up with being late. He really hoped that as he settled in he'd be on time more often.

He took a seat in the back, next to Pxyis so he could ask her what they were doing, but stayed quiet a moment, looking around at the other students to try to catch on himself what they were doing.

Pxyis looked up from her failed attempts at turning the matchsticks into a stick insect when she heard footsteps approaching her and saw Parker. She smiled at him as he sat down. "Late, again?" She said in a playful tone. "We're just doing a clockwise turn of our wands a flick downwards, and I think we say Boe-tain or something," Pxyis shrugged at him. "It's not working for me, but maybe it'll work for you?" She suggested.

She turned back to her matchsticks and did the movements again with a concentrated look. "Butain!" She snapped at the matchsticks, and it still didn't work. She tried again. "Boe-tain!" She incanted. To her delight, the matchsticks shook and trembled before they flattened out, stretched and turned into stick insects. "Yes," Pxyis grinned widely as the stick insect climbed onto Pxyis' hand, causing a tickling sensation as it began to move up her arm.

"I think not," Pxyis said, picking up the stick insect and placing it back on the desk.

He gave an embarrassed nod, thankful for her ability to be able to just go on explaining everything to him without having to ask.

He watched as she tried to do the spell again, smiling brightly when she managed to do it correctly. Any bit of magic he'd seen done was amazing to him, the struggle it took for him and his classmates to get some spells mastered made it all the more, knowing how hard they had to work to do some things.

He took out his wand, straightening in his seat, pointing his wand at the matchsticks, staring at them intently. He really wanted to get it right. He cleared his throat, taking a breath, firmly saying "Butain!" as he did the wand movement. He paused a moment, nothing happening.

More firmly he repeated, "Boo-tain!" The matches glowed bright a brief moment, popping loudly into confetti in his face, blowing his hair back slightly.

He sank down in his chair a bit, a bit disappointed but thinking that even if he didn't get the right spell he did get something.

She sighed seeing more and more students succeed. So, she decided not to try, she couldn't look bad in front of everyone. She she took a deep breath and began the motions again, and finally found the courage to say:

"Boe-tain!"

She was smiling as she saw them begin to swirl around and form into the walking stick. She jumped up and down in excitement, that soon disappeared seeing that it was still a bug. While her Transfiguration was possible, she didn't like bugs and looked at it wide-eyed trying not to cry out or do anything embarrassing.

She'd rather it had turn into confetti like the boy, whom she'd never seen before till now. Slytherin too at that.

Post by Guest Wed Jan 11, 2012 6:27 pm

Now that Pxyis had achieved her goal, she turned to watch Parker whilst feeling the stick insect climb back onto her hand and stay still there. Pxyis remembered Prof. Romain saying that it was NOT pronounced "Boo-tain", so when Parker incanted that, pointing his wand at the matchsticks, Pxyis bit her lip.

The matchsticks burst into bits of confetti in his face, and she began to laugh hysterically at the sight. He looked quite shocked and disappointed, and Pxyis managed to stop her laughter after a few moments, clapping him on the back. She noticed a few bits of confetti stuck in his hair, so she pulled them out and let them drop onto the desk.

"Well done," she congratulated him, trying to cheer him up from not being able to achieve turning it into a stick insect. "Personally, I think that's way more fun than this thing," she lifted up her hand and held the stick insect near his face, staring at it curiously before pulling it off of her hand and placing it on her textbook where it stayed.

"That was my fault as well," Pxyis said apologetically. "I forgot to mention that Professor Romain said that it's NOT pronounced Boo-tain. Sorry," Pxyis bit her lip and looked down, worried that she might have upset him or humiliated him.

He was still a bit startled from having the confetti blow up in his face and glanced around as Pxyis got some of it out of his hair, noticing another slytherin girl that had gotten the spell right. He sat up again, running his hands through his hair to shake out the rest of any confetti left in his hair. "Hopefully I don't do that again..."

He looked over at the stick bug on Pxyis' book, reaching his hand out and letting it crawl on. "I actually like bugs, so..." he trailed off, not thinking she'd really be interested, as he allowed the stick insect to crawl up his arm. "But, it's okay. My fault for being late."

Pxyis giggled as he expressed his hope not to do that again, before his eyes locked onto the stick bug she had recently placed on her book and he let it crawl onto his hand. "I actually like bugs, so..." He began, but trailed off as he let it trail up his arm. "But, it's okay. My fault for being late." He then continued to say. Pxyis was curious as to his like for bugs, of course everybody liked something.

"Don't worry about being late, when I came here I was always late. I've only just got my head around it all," Pxyis grinned. "You like bugs, huh? Im not too fond of them, though I do love ladybugs. They're very cute," her smile brightened. "And tarantula's. Baby ones, of course. Mother thinks im weird," Pxyis giggled lightly. "But then, I am weird. I race owls on my broom to practice flying, you don't get much weirder than that," she said with a wide smile.

"So, I don't think I know your last name, are you a half-blood... or?" She asked, wanting to know more about him. She reached out and placed her finger on his arm, blushing when their skin made contact. She may seem confident, but he was a cute boy after all and she had a weak spot for cute boys. She let the stick bug climb onto her finger and placed it back onto his hand so it didn't climb into his shirt, for she was sure though the sight would be amusing to her, not so much for him.
