Lesson Four - First Years
The Doctor stood in the standing stones awaiting his class, twirling a walking stick he'd never been seen carrying ever before. It was made of a dark and heavy wood, most likely oak from the look of it alone. But what was curious was that the entire length of the wooden stick was engraved. Every inch, every centimeter and every millimeter of the dark wood was covered with the small valleys of engravings. They were, even to amateurs, runes.

Alys made her way to Runes only to discover that half the class hadn't arrived. Taking her customary place, she cast a glance at the doctor who looked to be holding a cane or walking stick of sorts that seemed to be engraved with runes. The girl had seen enough runes to know that an object like that could prove highly interesting.

The Doctor twirled his walking stick as the rest of the class showed up. He rolled the muscles in his neck before waving his wand. Small sticks of wood, wand-like in appearance, appeared on a table in the middle of the standing stones,
"Please take one baton and await instructions."

Alys watched the sticks curiously as the doctor asked the students to take one and await further instructions. The blonde waited for the students in front passing the sticks around to reach her and took one carefully. What could the Highmaster be planning?

Lucian yawned and scratched his head, something was very odd about today, he had actually gotten up out of bed in order to come to some lesson that he wasn't even going to enjoy, he hadn't actually slept properly in days as well.
Sighing he rubbed the back of his hair and ambled along to the group, of one, and it would have to be that one person.
"Yo."
He said and took up one of the batons that he was told, it was covered in runes an idiot could tell that, and it looked like, if you activiated one, it would complete a spell or gesture, but of course Lucian didn't know. He only had a minor experiance in runes. But in hundreds of years, it was bound to be more than the girl next to him.

Re: Lesson Four - First Years
Normally, The Doctor would have told the late comer off but to be fair he didn't really care at the moment. He was rather distracted after all,
"Nice of you to join us." he commented as he picked up a baton, "This baton has three rune chains that I've already carved into them. Simply put, one is fire, one is force and one is locking."
He picked up one of the batons and held it like a wand. He pointed it at the boy,
"You merely think about which effect you want and chanelled some magic into it..." he paused and a weak pulse of force hit the boy in the chest, just enough to make him take a step back, "Practice with force. While doing so, give me one reason why this baton could be more useful than a wand?"

Re: Lesson Four - First Years
Lucian grinned as the Doctor pointed the runic staff at him and when he was pushed backwards slightly he chuckled, it had kind of tickled and it was also very very cool, he had totally underestimated the power of runes.
Thinking about the benefits of runic staffs Lucian located the force rune and put pressure on it to activate it.
Aiming it at a rock on the floor he grinned as it moved, a little bit but he practiced more until he was able to move it quite a long way away.
"It could be a benefit because it needs no verbal commands so it's more surprising, and, the runes could be put into several chains of spells that are faster and more powerful than spells, and, I'm pretty sure some runic staffs double as wand too if you think about it."
