Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
"Yeah, that's true. But it doesn't hurt to be hopeful. You know, sometimes visiting helps people get better. Even for Corrine, if the body's unconscious, the mind can still hear the noises going on around it..." He gave a small shrug. "At least that's what I've heard." He wasn't sure if that sounded any comforting, but it was worth a shot.
Parker shivered as the cold wind passed over them and Parker looked out the way she was.
He smiled a bit "Yeah...the snow is beautiful out here. Not too much a fan of the cold though. Down side to being in slytherin, the dungeons are absolutely freezing. Being under the lake and all."

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
Haley smiled to Parker. He was very smart, actually. She too had heard that people in comas could hear everything happening around them. She sighed and leaned back.
"Let's just hope it won't take too long," she said calmly, not feeling it.
Haley agreed, she didn't like it when it got too cold, but she preferred cold over warm. One could do something about it if one was cold, but there were only so much clothes one could discard if one got warm...
This, she said to Parker with a grin on her face.
Then an owl hooted and shot into the owlery. It landed next to Haley and stretched out its leg. Haley frowned and looked at Parker. Then she let her hand slip from Parker's, and she took the letter and opened it.
Dear Haley,
I know it's been a while since you've heard from us, but we figured that now was the time to start acting like a family. I'm so sorry for your loss. It hurts me deeply to know that my sister is dead. She didn't deserve this. And neither did Martin. I am so sorry, honey, truly.
But we up here in the north would wish you to come spend your Christmas holiday with us. It would be so nice to see you again. Kim misses you a lot and you know how you two get when you're together. It might be a nice distraction. So, could you send us a message per owl as quickly as you can and reply back? That would be great.
Love,
Henry and family.
Haley looked shocked at the letter. It had been ages since she'd heard from them, but her uncle was right; she did miss how she and Kim used to prank around. She smiled and looked at Parker.
"It looks like I won't be celebrating Christmas alone after all," she said softly, showing the letter to him.
She then stretched, feeling a bit more relaxed. It felt as if a heavy load was lifted off her shoulders.
"So, what do you plan on buying for presents then?" she asked him curiously. Then she blinked. "And what do you wish for? I think you've earned a present from me," she said grinningly.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
When Haley mentioned about why she preferred the cold, Parker nodded. "Hmm, that's true. Unfortunately there's not many extra blankets down in the dorms. And if if I wore all my sweaters to bed I'd not have anything to wear during the day!" he chuckled a bit. He did have to admit he was becoming more accustomed to the cold, and the small heat wave that passed where he lived made his summer very unpleasant.
He snapped out of his thought, looking over when an owl hooted loudly and landed beside Haley, sticking it's leg out. He smiled a little, wishing one day that he could have an owl. He did love writing letters over the summer to Pxyis and wanted to be able to use one of his own so he could write to whomever he wanted.
Haley frowned and let go of his hand, reading the letter. He watched her uneasiness transform into shock and then joy. When Haley smiled at him, he smiled right back. "It looks like I won't be celebrating Christmas alone after all." He raised his eyebrows, surprised and curious about this turnaround. When she showed him the letter he couldn't help but grin. "Haley, this is great!" He could see just how much better she was feeling now.
"So, what do you plan on buying for presents then?" He felt his smile drop slightly, but tried to hide it, looking down, then out at the view again. "Erm...I can't really-" he sighed. "Well, I'd like to..." he trailed off. He then shook his head. "I-I really don't know what I'd want...I don't think I'm very good at this whole present thing." He tried to smile a little bit.

Haley grinned. "Aw, the dungeons must be bad," she said. Then she tilted her head to the side. "Ever tried callin on one of the house-elves to get another blanket?" she asked him.
"Haley, this is great!"
Haley grinned widely at Parker. She felt a lot better now. She sighed, and then gave the owl a small nugat, and it flew away. It was probably the family owl or something. It looked nothing like the school owls.
Haley saw how uncomfortable Parker became when he thought about presents.
"Hey, don't stress. Many people on this school seems to have a liking for books and most girls likes jewelries. And if you think about colors, then just go for the house color. It's no stress. Shopping for presents should be fun," Haley said with a smile.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
"Well the view out the windows certainly make up for it, the way the water just lights up the room" he shrugged. "The squid still freaks me out a bit when I see her though..." he added with a slight chuckle.
Parker felt himself smile a little bit wider seeing how much better Haley was looking. She looked so much more relaxed and happy, which he figured made him happy too. He watched at the magnificent looking owl flew off, staying quiet as it left.
He looked down, seemingly in though. If he had the money, he was sure he could pick out very nice gifts, he didn't that that would have been the hard part. He kept his eyes down, looking a bit unsure. "People like home-made gifts right? I'm sure I could find some really cool things and make people up their own unique little gifts." He looked at her. "I-is that a bad idea?"

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
Haley grinned. "Indeed," she said, looking as the waves made some patterns in the roof.
Haley then went serious. She figured maybe presents wasn't the best thing to chat about. She sighed. She didn't know what it felt to be broke, but she didn't like the look on Parker's face. Haley smiled to him, and reached out, squeezing his hand.
"There is nothing I know of that pleases anyone more than something handmade. It makes the present more personal and honest," Haley said honestly, "The best gifts one can recieve is those handmade gifts you get from your friends."
It actually gave Haley an idea. "How about this, we don't buy gifts, but make them? Deal?" Haley asked with a beam.
She knew what to make in that case. She was a devil at making wooden sculptures.
"What is your favorite animal?" she asked him curiously, knowing it was a dead giveaway, but at the same time, it would be something he'd actually appreciate.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
He smiled a bit when she took his hand and told him that anyone would love a homemade gift. "Really? You think so?" He then nodded, "I think that sounds like a great idea, it doesn't need to even be anything big. Like you said, it's the thought put into it."
Parker didn't know what he'd make exactly, he wasn't particularly good at any sort of arts and crafts, but he had a few ideas that he figured he could work off of.
He smiled, looking at her curiously. "Hmm, well I've a lot of favorite animals. But, uhm, I like toads I guess. Well, or I'd say snakes but that's too..." he laughed a bit, gesturing his arms. "cliche is the word? I dunno. Forget it." He ran his hand through his hair.
"What are some things that you like? So I can get some sort of idea for what I'd make you,"

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
Haley grinned at him. "I absolutely think so," she said firmly.
She really believed that most people would be happiest with handmade presents. The people who didn't, Haley usually found stuck-up and spoiled. She didn't mind people like that, but she tended to avoid them. She then beamed at Parker.
"Toads? That's pretty cool. They are very cool, but I've never really seen one in real life, though, so I don't know what they're like... Snakes, or generally are my favorite kind of animal as well. Maybe it is a bit cliche, but still, they are so fascinating. Dragons are the favorite ones though," Haley said.
She then thought about what she loved.
"I love the nature. Mountains and lakes, mist and forests and stuff like that. I also love abstract things, like paintings and the like, where one can imagine the picture to be whatever one wants. I really love all sorts of things though, so use much imagination. I also love eagles a lot," she added thoughtfully.
She was really having a good time sitting there, talking with Parker.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
"Well, I suppose I just like smaller snakes...after that whole thing with dueling class...I don't know anymore." he chucked and then Parker gave her the most curious look when she mentioned dragons. He sat for a brief moment with his mouth slightly open, as if he were going to talk. "Dragons?? Did you really say dragons?" he finally said. He honestly needed to stop being so surprised. It should have occurred to him that, yes, magic is real, so then of course muggle tales should be real too.
Parker seemed to light up a bit when she went on about her other likes. "Really? I may be able to do something really nice then...I might have a few ideas..." He laughed a little. "I've never really put any sort of gift together before though, so hopefully it doesn't turn out bad or anything."
He then shivered again as another cold, sharp wind passed over them. "Maybe we should head inside...I can always write a letter some other time."

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
"Yeah, duelling was scary, but we managed," she said victoriously.
Haley looked surprised at Parker, and then beamed. "Oh, of course! You wouldn't know about the dragons, would you? Oh, they're so amazing! I went to Romania to see them with my family once, and they were so ... royal! And here-" Haley stuck her hand down her vest and dragged up a jewelry of a silver dragon "-is how one of them looked. Not quite like this, more white than silver, but it was magnificent. And in Norway I saw a Norwegian Ridgeback once too. I usually go on trips to find dragons, it's become a tradition for me," Haley said with a wide grin.
Even without her parents by her side, she knew that looking for dragons was a hobby she would not give up on. They fascinated her so much that she wouldn't be surprised if she started working with them.
Haley grinned. "I'm sure I'll like it, no matter what it is," she said softly, "Even if it was of a worm."
She then frowned. "Maybe not," she said and then grinned again, sticking her tongue out at him.
She felt the cold as well and nodded. "Maybe that's a good idea. But hey, if you want to write the letter in private, then I can just meet you someplace else. I actually feel rather hungry, so we could meet up in the kitchen if you'd like?" Haley asked.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
He smiled and listened as Haley went on about the dragons. His eyebrows rose as she took out necklace. He let go of her hand, reaching to the dragon. "So they really look like how muggles always picture them? Firebreathing? Huge wings and claws? That really sounds amazing though. I should find some pictures about them one time." he laughed a bit, letting go of her necklace. "I feel like I really shouldn't be so surprised about all this..."
He scrunched his face a bit, letting out another laugh. "Lucky for you, I'm not a worm digger. Me mum made me stop about 6, I'd say." he joked.
He nodded and shrugged. "That sounds good. I've never been to the kitchens before, so it'll be fun." the then smiled again.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
Haley nodded. "Oh, they're huge! Well, some of them are smaller than others, and there are the mini dragons, but they aren't really dangerous at all. They're neither poisonous or firebreathing. They have a hot breath though... But the big ones... They're so brilliant," she said, grinning as Parker looked at her necklace.
She then shook her head. "No, it's very few who actually learns about the dragons before their fourth year or something. It isn't something people ask, either because it's always been a fairytail to them, or because they wonder, but think they will sound stupid if they ask," she said calmly. Well, at least that's what she believed.
She laughed as Parker said that his mother made him stop digging for worms. She could so easily imagine a young Parker - with the same face, though, since she didn't know what he looked like when he was young - digging for worms and his mother stopping him.
"I and my friends once chopped a worm in two to find out if the myth that it became two worms after being chopped was true. It seemed to be. I regret doing that now, though. Seriously, what if we hurt that worm?" Haley asked with a guilty expression.
Haley had killed pretty many bugs during her life, as all do, but she felt tremendously guilty about it. She really had a pacifistic look on life, though that had changed slightly in the time after the summer. When she met the killer of her parents, she just wanted to hurt her. Haley blamed the fact of her murderous intent that the woman was human and not an animal, though she was not sure this was a good thing or not...
Haley grinned at Parker. "Well, ye jus' wait and see wha' 'appens in the kitchen, laddie," she said with a fake accent, and rose from where they were sitting.

Re: Writing home (Parker and Haley)
"Mini dragons??" Parker was grinning through her whole explanation. "Well they sound absolutely fantastic. Though I'm sure I'd be pretty scared if I ever saw one. Especially the big ones you talked about."
"Really?" He looked a bit impressed, chuckling a bit. "Well, aren't you lucky then. But even other witches and wizards think that? I sort of thought everyone in the magical world at least knew about this sort of stuff..." he shrugged. Well, he guessed not. They were in school for a reason after all. But the major creatures he at least assumed.
He smiled a little when she laughed. "Well, actually-" he laughed a little and his face got a little red, realizing that it made him sound like a know-it-all, but continued. "I-if it's just right in half, the side with the head will live, the other won't...so..I guess it's half true?" He offered a shrug with his question.
He laughed at her accent. After a moment of thinking about it he then decided to reply with one as well. "Wha' 'hap'ns in th' kich'n? Ya mean get'n' food?" He smiled as she stood, still laughing a bit. He felt like he'd not really laughed in ages. "See you in the kitchen then, Haley..."

Haley grinned. "Yeah, they're amazing. But seriously, they're like small dogs, so they're not so scary," she said softly.
Then she noticed how badly prashed the part about people knowing about dragons was. "Well, I have met some witches and wizards who were oblivious to their existence, but I meant mostly other muggle-borns. I've met some during last year and the summer, and they were pretty much oblivious," Haley said with a grin.
Haley looked up into the roof thoughtfully. "You know, that sounds fairly reasonable. I don't really remember what happened, but I know that one of the parts still moved, so I guess that was the part with the head," she said with a grin.
"Well, tha kitchen's in tha hooood, and all tha', bu' tha trick is ta know wha' yah wan' an' all. Sersly, it be very nice place to feast yer eyes 'pon," Haley said. Then she frowned. "That last sentence made no sense..." she said thoughtfully.
She then nodded. "See you, Parker," she said with a grin, and left with a wave.
