Lesson Two: Second Years Empty Lesson Two: Second Years

Post by Angel Valentine Tue Feb 28, 2012 11:06 am

Clearing up the room, she found herself amused by some flowers that Professor Lily had handed her ever since she said that the plant thrived in darkness. She had placed it on her desk and she looked around the classroom. It was indeed dark in the dungeons but being a potions master, she had gotten used to it.

She had tried to take some of the advice given by Lily to have some fun with her students, but potions was a serious class, but she figured today she might try something a little different.

She placed the last cauldron on the table and took her seat waiting for her class to enter.

Entering the classroom, she noticed that no one had beaten her to it. She smiled at the Professor briefly before sitting upfront and in the center to pay utmost attention. She placed her satchel beside her to save a seat for Victoria as well.

She wasn't really happy about returning to classes, but she was curious to learn more. She took out her equipment and waited patiently.

After his talk with Madam Henley, Parker was very determined to stay on top of all his classes. The first step to that was to arrive to class on time. He walked quickly down the dungeon corridor, and made his way into the room. When he walked in he noticed only Tess was there so far.

He gave a pleased smile and took a seat near her, leaving another space next to him in case Pxyis wanted to sit there. He wasn't too sure if she'd want to, though...actually she might. He inwardly groaned. She was being awfully confusing recently he thought and he had no clue. One moment she was mad at him, the other back to normal, or sometimes even more happy and out there.

Trying to push the thought from his mind at the moment, he set his bag on the table and pulled out his note, curious about what they'd be doing in class today.

Victoria was excited to get back to potions. It hadn't been her favorite class last year, but getting to work with a partner, especially one she trusted, was fun.

She took the seat Tess had saved and got her stuff ready for another lesson.

Post by Charlotte Smith Tue Feb 28, 2012 7:14 pm

Charlotte hurried into her class, once again excited for potions and wondered if they would be working in pairs again today or if they would be alone. Seeing that some students were already there Charlotte nodded to them and took up her normal seat, taking out her text book and flicking through looking for what potion they would be brewing today.

Hopefully Airen would be in this class, and he was just a little late, because if they were doing pair work, she wouldn't know who to go with.

Post by Keiba Namid Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:52 pm

Keiba wandered calmly down the stairs to the dungeons, swept up in her own thoughts and losing track of time. Something had sparked her interest this morning and all day her mind had been mulling it over and over. She loved thinking so deeply, but only when she didn't have to concentrate on anything else but what she was thinking about.

Slipping into the classroom, she chose a random desk and sat down, mindlessly pulling out her equipment while she pertained lost in the abyss of her head. Keiba didn't notice the other students as she was too far gone in her swirling shadows of thought.

Pyxis hummed to herself as she moved throughout the castle walls. It was only a short walk from the common room to the Potions classroom, but she slowed her pace so it was more relaxed and casual. Her bag dug into her shoulder painfully from the amount of books and other objects inside it, and she shifted it onto her other shoulder before she stepped inside the classroom.

Her eyes swept over her surroundings and with a small smile she made her way over to the seat next to Parker. She had realised that she had been a bit all over the place lately and had possibly freaked him out, so it was with hesitance that she placed her hand on the chair and sat down next to him.

"This seats not taken, is it?"

Having been busying himself with rifling through his bag, he hadn't noticed when Pxyis walked in. But when she approached, he looked over and smiled.

He thought it a bit odd the actually asked, she never did. There wouldn't really be anyone he'd be saving a seat for other then her. Unless if it was for invisible person if he wanted to be alone. But the last week had been agonizing and he was more then happy to have Pxyis at his side once more.

He moved his bag off the table so that it wasn't in her way, "Well of course not, silly."

Seeing that more students had entered, she stood up and took a deep breath.

"Now students please start reading page 289 all about the potion of the day while we wait for students"

An Ageing Potion is a potion which causes the drinker to become older. Whether this is in body only or in body and mind is unclear. It is clear, however, that the more of the potion is drunk, the larger the aging which occurs. The effects of this potion are to be temporary.

The more potion drunk, the larger the degree of aging that occurs. It is also clear, however, that other magic can see through the effects of this potion, such as age lines.

Airen rushed to his class, thankful he wasn't too late. He ducked his head down and sat beside Charlotte, sending her a warm smile. He looked up at the professor.

"Le mie scuse (My apologies), Professor," he said. He got out his textbook and hurriedly flipped through the pages to the assigned reading.

Victoria opened to the correct page. She was intrigued at how it would actually feel to take the potion and wondered if they would be allowed to actually use it. Probably not.

She started wondering what kind of situations would call for such a potion. And what things would be protected by aging lines. Hmm.

Keiba flipped open her textbook to the right page and started reading. Ageing Potions. Interesting. The potion's description only set her mind buzzing again, and she eagerly devoured the rest of the overview.

"Professor," she called, raising her hand. "Are you going to let us try some ageing potions, or are we going to just make them? Or even just study them?" she asked, curious.

Zara rushed through the door once again, hoping she got there just in time. She looked around the room, deciding where to sit. She saw her friend Keiba, with a few empty seats surrounding her. She quickly walked over and sat down next to Keiba, took out her text book and gazed over at Keiba's book to see what page to go to.

Noticing Keiba hadn't really acknowledged Zara was there, she threw a little piece of paper at her head. "Hey. Time to get your head out of Keiba land" Zara whispered, giggling.

A scrunched up ball of paper bounced of Keiba's head and she turned with a glare on her face until she saw Zara. She grinned at her. "'Allo!" She whispered, not wanting to anger the Professor by talking. Pointing to her book, she showed Zara what they were doing. "Ageing potions," she said with a small, excited smile.

Haley quickly and quietly slipped into the classroom, very grateful that she had not been too late. She sighed happily and went to sit down near Keiba and Zara. She smiled and saw what page they were on and opened her book. Ageing potion. Interesting. Haley smiled and then looked up at the professor waiting for her to give them some more instructions.

She had noticed that Ms. Smith had managed to arrive late. She said nothing, but rather let out a small smile and clapped her hands to get their attention.

"Has everyone read?" she asked.

Seeing that most people were looking up her, she stood up and waved her hands as one the board the words appeared.

"You must know that this spell is very intricate, and you will be partnering up. Since I am feeling in a good mood...I will allow you to try it. If you do, do it correctly that is...perhaps you will manage to see how you will look when you are older"

She looked at her cauldron and smiled remembering that she herself had done this spell at eleven and saw herself as to how she would look today. Picking up a pink vial she shook it a bit.

"If you manage to make the spell right, do not worry, rather than allowing it to clean out of your system, I will be giving you the de-aging potion" she said.

She took a small sip and found herself shrinking down to their age, twelve. Her hair was long and straight and her robes looked like it was swallowing her up.

"As you can see, it works immediately" she said voice higher than usual because of her temporary young age. "And when you take the blue potion"

She drank the other light blue vial, and she immediately returned to her proper age.

"There are three basic ingredients in the potion and some vials. It is important that your vials are exactly measured for one cannot know the consequences"

She waved her hands once more and the ingredients began to be hand-written magically:

Banana
- The peel must be covered in snail slime before the ingredient is put into the cauldron of hot sugar.
- All the dark spots in the body of the banana will need to be taken out
- The rest of it, will be chopped up into thin cubes.
Snake
- Snake Fangs must be crushed till powdered and must be measured as 1.2 oz.
- Snake skin, dried not fresh, but be placed into the hot sugar.
Leaves
- Maple leaves, dried and red.
- Pine thorns

"Partner up! And once these ingredients are prepared raise your hand so I can see your work"

Post by Victoria Rossmund Fri Mar 02, 2012 3:03 pm

Victoria was excited to get to try out the potion, even if it was just for a few minutes.

She turned to Tess. "I'll grab the ingredients this time. Wanna get the cauldron ready to heat up the sugar?" She didn't wait for an answer, dashing off to grab the ingredients.

Grabbing a book to carry it all back on, she picked out all the ingredients, making sure to grab a banana that didn't seem to be too spotted. She was extremely grossed out by the snake skin, but quickly grabbed it an a knife and smoothly walked back to their station, making sure not to drop anything.

She then started crushing up the snake fangs.

Parker read through the passage they were supposed to, all the while curious and excited for they would doing this lesson.

At the mention of partnering up, he shot a small smile at Pxyis, hopeful that they'd be able to make the potion correctly. Though he honestly didn't like the idea of trying it himself. His eyebrows rose as she became younger and then back to normal again. How was something like this even possible?? Well...that was a stupid question, he really needed to stop being so surprised and in awe over every thing.

He carefully read over their instructions for the ingredients they were supposed to get and prepare. He lept up from his seat, going over to get the ingredients that they needed.

Tess nodded and saw Victoria scamper off towards the ingredients pantry. She shook her head amused at the fact that Victoria was so excited about doing the potion. She was excited too after all she wanted to see how she would look when she was older.

She took out the cauldron and turn on the flame beginning to heat it up. She picked up the powdered sugar and she began to slowly move it trying to make it become a little more solid. She knew the sugar was dangerous when it got too hot so she was careful.

Tabi finally made it into potions, she knew that she still needed to do her classes even though she wanted to sit in the hospital wing all day.

Walking into the classroom she went and had a seat in the back of the class, where Leshia would have been had she been in the class.

Tabi looked at the bored and went to get the ingredients for making the aging potion. She knew that Ivano would be along shortly so she would go ahead and get the potion started.

She got everything in the cauldron and was waiting for the correct amount of time.

After getting the fangs ready, Victoria moved onto the bananas. When she read the directions again, she didn't quite understand.

Raising her hand she asked, "Professor, it says to cover the peel in slime, then to remove dark spots and cube it. Are we supposed to do that with the banana still in the peel? Or is it just essential to cover it in slime even though we will be removing the peel?"

Post by Charlotte Smith Sat Mar 03, 2012 10:42 pm

Charlotte smiled lightly when Airen came in and she noted that they were doing paired work again today and she knew that she would be working with Airen today, reading up on ageing potions, Charlotte was painfully reminded by how she was not going to reach the age that the potion would turn her to.

Turning to Airen Charlotte asked with a small smile:

"Do you want to work together today?"

Going up to get the ingredients in case he said yes, Charlotte got a ripe banana, a snake skin and some snake fangs, there seemed to be a humourous feel to putting a banana in the potion.

"I think this might be an interesting potion to make, don't you?"

"Do you wanna work together, Zara?" Haley asked and then went to find the proper ingredients.

"Do you want to do the snake part, and I'll do the banana and leaves part?" Haley then asked.

She started peeling the banana and put sugar in the cauldron, heating it up. When she was done with the peeling, she dipped the peel in snail slime and added it into the cauldron when the sugar got warm. She then searched the banana for black spots and took out the ones she found. Then she chopped it into thin cubes. Then she added them into the cauldron.

She then prepared the leaves and waited for Zara to add the snake ingredients before adding them.

Walking around, she noticed that most of the students had the ingredients ready.

"Good! I see that most people are done getting those three ingredients ready. Now we will begin to get the vials"

She picked the vials. The first one was green.

"This is Snake venom, we will be using three drops, THREE , and if anyone does a mistake it could actually stunt the growth so be careful"

Picking up the pink one she smiled.

"This is a mild version of a love potion" she began "You will need two drops, TWO, and these are to aid you in the aging dealing with physical features."

"Lastly, we will be using this purple vial. It is prune juice, another muggle ingredient, One drop and only one for taste."

She then began to place the ingredients on the board.

"Once the sugar begins to turn to a gummy look, that means it's too heated, and you will need to start over. Make sure it's crystalized but not gummy, then you will add the snake ingredients. You will add them till it will become a bright green color. Next you will add the leaves, and it will turn forest green, lastly the bananas when it is 239 degrees FAHRENHEIT, make sure you read that clear. I will test your conversion skill with this"

And perhaps find a few apprentices she thought.

"Lastly you will add the drops when it becomes a yellow color and finally with the last drop of prune juice it will be a beautiful purple. Please begin"

Zara read all the instructions ans became quite excited to try it out. "Do you wanna work together, Zara?". She turned her head to see Haley. "Yeah, sure" she answered, with a grateful smile.

Zara had no problem handling snake skin and teeth. She'd handled much worse in the past. Not in the classroom of course. "Yep. Sounds good" she said.

As Haley started on the potion, Zara began crushing the snake fangs. It was pretty fun getting to destroy something that almost killed her when she was 7. It was a little bit of hard work trying to crush the fang into powder.

She finished just as Haley was done putting the banana cubes into the cauldron. She added the powder to the caulron. Then she added the dried snake skin.
