Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Angel wondered if her students actually did their work. She hoped they did because she would not give them any aid in their potions of they hadn't collected the ingredients. She had given them work and she expected the work to be done, so she waited for them to arrive patiently.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Haley walked into the potions classroom and sat down calmly at a desk. She looked at the professor, who looked like her normal stern self, but Haley was glad she was so strickt. She wouldn't have learned half of what she had if another teacher had been there. But she was awfully glad that she'd done her homework in that instant.
She took out the flask with the finished potion she had made ready and put it on her desk so that professor Valentine wouldn't doubt that she had done her homework.

Entering the classroom, she sat down on her usual spot and picked up her satchel. She then began to take out her ingredients as she saw Haley doing it. She smiled softly at Haley and looked at the Professor. She oftentimes wondered why the Professor was so different from potions to muggle studies.
She saved a seat for Victoria and waited patiently.

Airen entered the classroom. He had a knapsack on his right shoulder. He gingerly lifted it from his shoulder and set it down on the table. He got out his ingredients and set them on the table. after he finished, he set his knapsack down on the floor. He nodded his head at the professor.
"Salve, Profesore (Hello, Professor)," he greeted. He ordered his ingredients to pass the time as he waited for the class to begin.

Parker walked down the corridor and into the room, his bag slightly more heavy because of the ingredients he got for the lesson. He had spend his time after collecting them, to look up a little on each ingredient as well. He took his seat beside Haley and gave her a small smile, setting his bag on the table as he took the ingredients out.
After setting them all up, he set his bag down by his feet, ready to begin the lesson.

Charlotte hurried to the classroom, she had a little trouble finding the ingredients and she hoped that she had managed to find the right ones, and as she opened the door to the classroom she found herself getting more and more nervous about them.
With a slightly nervous smile Charlotte sat down next to Airen and got out all of the ingredients that they would need for today, hoping they would be the correct ones, they looked like it based on everyone elses.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Keiba rushed to her potions class. Professor Valentine was a strict teacher and wouldn't appreciate her absence nor her lateness twice in a row. She couldn't help the previous lesson though; she'd been bedridden. Keiba reached the door and slowly entered. She noticed most of the students had ingredients set out on their desks. She bit her lip and dumped her bag.
Making her way to the head of the room, she approached Professor Valentine. "Um, excuse me Professor," she began. "I'd like to apologise for my absence last lesson, but I couldn't help it, I was bedridden in the Hospital Wing. Also... I want to ask what we covered? I'm afraid I might be a bit behind."

Leshia made her way into the potions class and noticed that many of the student had potion done already. Leshia had a bad week during the last lesson and was not able to do the potion. She had gotten the notes on the potions but had spaced it off, she felt really bad.
Leshia was excepted to do great in potions class because he father was a potion masters. Arriving in class she saw Keiba was already there so she went and sat next to her.
"Hey Keiba, how are you doing?"

At the mention of the Hospital Wing and being absent a frown emerged on Professor Valentine's face. She tried to think of this logically, the poor girl was in the Hospital Wing, so she'd simply check with Healer Henly to see if it was true, and if so, she would give a girl a break.
"Well Miss Namid, I am afraid you missed a lot. You had a homework assignment to collect the ingredients for the potion that we were going to do today. And while I will have to check to see if you were really sick, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. You will get detention and ten points off now, and in three days from now, by that time you will collect the ingredients that others did and will head to my office to do this potion where you will gain your points back. If you fail to do this then you will lose an additional ten points, does that seem fair to you?"

Victoria made her way slowly to potions, not wanting to spill or crush any ingredients. She moved to the seat Tess was saving.
Taking out the ingredients she checked them off the list she had made, just to be sure she had them all. She didn't want to arrive without an ingredient.

At first, a detention and deduction of points her house couldn't really afford to lose didn't seem too fair for Keiba. But then Keiba thought this was very fair, especially if she could earn back the points she'd lost. "Yes, Professor. I expect I'll have the ingredients on your desk within the next few days before school ends. Um, what are they?"
Keiba turned around quickly and waved at her fellow Ravenclaw. "I'm better," she mouthed as she was still talking to Professor Valentine.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Angel sighed at the disappointed look that Miss Namid gave her, but she was very specific in her previous class, and she could not have a special case. Before she left, she placed her hand lightly on the girl's shoulder.
"I will give the ingredients to you after class, but you will see the ingredients being used here as well. Just know that if you do a better job, I will not hesitate to give you points, but you must work for them. I hope this teaches not only you, but the class that missing a class can be detrimental. I know it wasn't on purpose, but I cannot have favorites Miss Namid"
With that she let out a soft smile and closed the door so no more students would enter.
"I see that the majority of you brought your ingredients and I'm glad. I have to say that I am disappointed to see a few people missing the ingredients, but I see that at least one of them does have a good reason we shall begin the lecture."
Walking to the front she began to write the potion again.
Antidote to Uncommon Poisons.
"Can anyone tell me, why this antidote is created and what it cures?"

Haley raised her hand. "It was invented to cure poison like doxy poison, and other poisons that are more rare," she said calmly, though a bit unsure if that was a reason enough to say why it was invented.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Angel smiled at Miss Smith and nodded.
"Very good ten points to Hufflepuff" she said.
Walking towards her desk she sat atop of it and began to explain the lesson.
"While I do not know if you have dealt with a Doxy, or the biting fairy, I am teaching you this potions in case any accidents occur. Also on a more serious note...I will not shield you from the idea that we are facing some dangers throughout England because of the current German attacks. You can never trust anything completely, you have to realize that"
Clearing her throat she sighed.
"Now let's digress, and let's talk about the ingredients, I hope that you have:
-Fire Seeds
-Powdered Graphorn Horn
-Billywig stings
-Chizpurfle carapaces"
She then waved her hand and the potion list began to form:
-Add four cups of Dragon Blood and let it boil at 120 degrees.
-Once it boils, add eight fireseeds and cover the cauldron immediately because they will pop.
-Wait until the popping noises end and meanwhile shave the Graphorn horn till it is 4 ounces.
-Mix it in and a purple shade will occur
-Take out your dead Billywigs and take off their stingers carefully. If you get poked you will float and points will be removed immediately.
-Once it turns a dark blue, you will wait ten minutes and record it's changes.
-Add twenty dead Chizpurfle into the cauldron and simmer it down to 80 degrees and keep lowering it down every minute until it reaches 70.
"I am glad you all succeeded in the scavenger hunt. And now you may start working on your potion individually. Begin!"

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Haley laid out her ingredients perfectly next to her, making sure they were all okay, and then started up the cauldron. She then put four cups of Dragon Blood into it and turned up the heat. When it boiled, she added the fireseeds quickly, and covered the cauldron instantly before she got hurt by the popping. She listened in on the noises, while shaving the Graphorn horn to 4 ounces, until she couldn't hear them anymore. She was about to uncover it, when it made one last popping sound, and she was very grateful that she hadn't removed the lid completely.
She added the Graphorn horn and mixed it in until the purple color showed. She was very proud at accomplishing that. She then picked up the billywigs, exceptionally careful to not get stinged while removing them. When she had managed, she put the ingredient in and looked as it turned dark blue. She then waited for ten minutes, and recorded every change it had. She started to feel relieved when she added the last, twenty dead Chizpurfle into the cauldron and stepped it down one degree at a time a minute until it reached 70.
She smiled and wiped her brow relieved.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Tess felt bad for the students that did not manage to get the ingredients. She sat down and opened the cauldron. She held her breath as she put in the Dragon blood, it repulsed her more than anything. She began moving it too afraid it let it clot. She believed that would be even more disgusting if it clotted.
She added the eight fire seeds and closed the cauldron hearing them pop. She was very curious about how it would look, but she was not going open the pot. She mentally counted each pop trying to wait it out. And when silence was in the cauldron and nothing was heard but the popping, she took the lip off. She began to shave the horn and mentally hoped that this animal wasn't endangered for it's horn. She picked up the powder and placed it on wax paper and weighed it. Seeing that it was a bit too much, she removed a bit from it and then moved it into the cauldron. She moved it around and continued to mix it. It turned a shade of violet and wondered briefly if it was too bright.
She said nothing and kept going, mentally going over what she put in. It seemed right...humming softly she was positive about it, potions came easily to her. The next phase disgusted her more than anything. She hated bugs, and picked up the pliers so she wouldn't touch them and meticulously began to pick out the stingers. She felt her finger accidentally brush by the point and she winced a bit.
Please, please, please stay on the ground. It's your last lesson! she thought frantically.
She felt herself feeling lighter and pushed her feet under the table so the pressure prevented her to float. She knew that it was only temporary and that it wasn't enough to puncture but enough to make her hover a bit. She begged that it would disappear by the end. Putting the billywig stingers in, she mixed it and she saw it turn blue. She half-heartedly added the Chizpurfle and then moved it.
Now did she mixed it and then covered it. She then looked at the clock and every minute she lowered the flame until it reached 70.
Finished, she took a deep breath and gripped the table hard so the floating would disappear.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Parker had been arranging his ingredients, listening carefully the the instructions the professor was giving. He sighed when she mentioned the threat of the Germans. Finally an adult that actually said something to them. He felt like the were trying to shelter them from it even with the attack last year, and it was making him so nervous. he had just wished someone would say something.
He looked up as the said the ingredients and he looked up to the board when she put the lists up.
He began to set up his stuff, watching the blood as he poured it into the cauldron. He turned the heat up under it to bring it to a boil, a process which he found to be quite interesting to watch. He took the handful of the fireseeds, his other hand holding the lid. Right after dropping the eight in, he put the lid on, almost not putting it down in time. He sighed and while listening to them pop off he grabbed the graphorn, took the blade, and started to shave it.
When the popping stopped he took the lid off, setting it aside. He stirred in the graphorn and moved the Billywigs in front of him. When the colour turned what he assumed to be the right shade, he took the tweezer-things he had, so he could safely remove the stingers. Though the idea of the poke making them float made him smile a little. It sounded ridiculous, but he knew it would happen.
After adding them in, he watched the potion change to blue, and glanced up seeing Tess gripping onto the table. He rose his eyebrows, smiling at her as he took out his parchment and quill to take down the observations. In the ten minutes he waited, he took the notes and watched Tess, amused.
When the time came, he set down his quill and took handfulls of the twenty dead Chizpurfle. He mixed it and lowered it to 80, taking the ten more minutes to lower it to seventy. He looked back over to the others, seeing how their work was coming along.

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Airen listened to the direction. He was slightly disappointed that he wasn't working with Charlotte, but he thought that maybe the professor had her reasons. He started working on the potion. He put on dragon-hide gloves just to be safe. He didn't want any accidents to happen.
He measured four cups of dragon blood as close as possible. He briefly wondered if Epos would be alright with this. He'd talk to him during the summer about this. He poured it into the cauldron slowly, watching the unique shape their fall made. He set the heat to 120 and waited for it to boil. He didn't have to wait long.
He counted eight fire seeds and dropped them into the cauldron. He immediately whipped the lid over the cauldron. It clattered briefly, and soon the fire seeds started popping. While waiting, he shaved the Graphorn. He set it on a scale and weighed them on a scale. Four ounces exactly. By the time he was done, the fire seeds had ceased their popping. He lifted the lid off and slipped the Graphorn in and started mixing it in. His potion turned a soft purple shade.
He picked up the billywigs and removed their stingers by first setting them down on the table, then cutting off the stingers. He deposited them into the potion. The potion turned a dark shade of blue. He recorded any changes he observed during the ten minute duration of the potion.
Once the time was up, he counted twenty of the dead Chizpurfle carcasses. He slipped them into the potion, careful not to cause too much splashing. Mixing them in, he turned the potion down to 80, Turning it down one degree every minute, he finished at 70.

Keiba nodded in full understanding, then went to sit by Leshia. She wanted to watch and see how she did it. It was quite an interesting potion, really. Keiba felt a bubble of excitement and couldn't wait to make it herself.
Halfway through the class, she was willing it to be over so she could get started on her own potion. She was taking down notes on the process Leshia was going through and little observations of her own.
Glancing up, Tess caught her eye. She grinned as she noticed the Slytherin girl clinging to the desk for dear life. Poor Tess, she must've accidentally been poked by a Billywig sting.
((OOC: Is that what you meant - I have to do the potion in my own time, Professor?))

Re: Potions: Second Years, Lesson Four
Victoria took out her ingredients and got to work. The blood didn't bother her as much as it seemed to Tess. Maybe she was weird, or a freak, but it was almost fascinating that it was a dragon's life force. One it was to the right temperature, she added her fire seeds, counting them silently. As soon as the last one was in she quickly covered it, just in time to avoid a big mess.
Setting to work on the horn, it took a few minutes to shave off the correct amount. Mixing it in, the potion turned a royal shade of purple, akin to amethyst. She then moved on to the Billywigs, pulling off the stingers with a set of tweezers. She'd never though to bring them to this class before, but had brought them after reading up on the new ingredient.
She watched it change to a deep blue, and she wondered what made it change to that particular color. This was a common thought for her. She was interested in learning different potions that used similar ingredients, to see if there were similar color mixes.
Seeing that the class was wrapping up, she took her final notes from the 10 minutes of waiting. She was confused a little bit about the instructions to add the whole Chizpurfle. The list of ingredients to gather just mentioned their carapaces, or fins. Taking a chance, figuring it was the end of the year, she used the tweezers again to attempt to peal off the upper portion of their exoskeletons. She lowered the potion's temperature as directed and waited for class to end.

(OOC: Yes Keiba that. I won't actually take ten points from Ravenclaw, I'll simply say that you came to the office and did the work No worries)
Seeing her second years finishing their potions, she overlooked some errors that some were doing. It was the last lesson after all. She sat on her desk and began her speech.
"I am glad that all of you are working so diligently. I have to say you were my favorite second year class" she said, not mentioning it was the only one. "I know that you have dealt with a lot, in and outside the classroom, but I'd like to thank you for making this year somewhat enjoyable. And while I know I am not your favorite, to many of you, I'd like to think that you have learned enough to keep you going."
She looked at the potions and smiled.
"Potions is a very hard subject, but you all passed with flying colors. Congratulations on surviving, and I hope the best for you in your endeavors. Class dismissed, please put your potions in vials so I can grade them later."
