Reporting the Facts (Darcie and Marcus)

Darcie, when she had been approached by Marcus the reporter for one of the major magical newspapers, was only too happy to give him an interview with her, she could not have said no even if her life depended on it, she wanted to be able to help people understand what had happened on the ship, and this was the best way to do it.

Walking happily into the pub, Darcie ordered a butterbeer and sat down in an empty booth, waiting to see if he would be on time to their meeting, she wouldn't mind though if he was late, she knew that sometimes the traffic around here was jammed, as it was a popular shopping destination for wizards.

Sighing Darcie sipped at her butterbeer and waited for Marcus to arrive.

Marcus was seriously considering just using a banish charm to clear the way through the crowds but he wasn't a violent person and he knew they didn't deserve it just for being busy people. Arriving at the pub a couple of minutes late, Marcus went to the bar immediately and bought a pitcher of iced tea and two glasses.

Looking around for a free table and saw Darcie already there. He walked over sheepishly,

"Sorry I'm late Miss Vane." he apologised, blushing slightly at being late even if it was only by three minutes, "I'm not usually late... but I got us some iced tea if you'd like some. Have you been waiting long?"

Darcie smiled happily when she saw Marcus coming over to the table with a pitcher of iced tea, she had not known that they do iced tea here and she would very much like to have some, but she was feeling a little bit nervous to take it because she already had a drink.

When he asked whether she had been waiting long Darcie shook her head and she smiled broadly, and ran her hand through her hair, putting it up in a looose bobble so it wouldnt get in the way when they began to do the interview.

"No no I've only just come in don't worry about it, I know it's manic out there, its because all of the children are off I think." she smiled happily "I'm only too happy to do this interview for you, I really want people to know what happened on the ship. Its important the truth is shown."

Seeing Darcie eyeing the pitcher of iced tea, he poured a cupful into one of the glasses he'd brought with him and handed it to her with a smile. He filled his own glass and took a sip. He sighed happily as the cold drink cooled him down from the warmth of the summer air.

He was glad that she hadn't been waiting long, one of his pet peeves was people who kept others waiting and he never wanted to be that kind of person. Marcus chuckled a little bit,

"Yeah the little joys are out in force." he agreed with a happy smile before nodding and taking his notebook and fountain pen out, "You're absolutely right! The truth must be told! But first I'll need to ask a few questions to build up a profile of you mkay? Firstly, what is your full name? Age? And where were you born?"

Darcie was very happy when Marcus must have caught her glancing at the iced tea and gave her some of it himself, he seemed so very polite and she knew that the interview was going to go well, it was so nice to meet another person too, maybe they could even become friends.

"Thank you," she said with a small smile "I did not want to ask for it myself, after all I already have a drink although I had no idea this place did iced tea, or I would have gotten some myself."

With a happy little smile Darcie nodded her head with a small 'Uh-huh' and then got herself ready to answer some questions from Marcus, they were fairly simple so she could answer them straight off the bat.

"My full name is Darcie Elizabeth Vane, I'm 22 years old at the moment and I was born in Berlin." she answered politely.

Marcus smiled happily when Darcie thanked him for the glass of iced tea. Most people either didn't like iced tea or prefered not to accept the tea that he gave them. Some reporters from America had drugged the drinks of their interviewees with truth serum a few months ago and it dogged all reporters,

"You're very welcome." he replied with a happy smile, "Well from now on you just help yourself from the pitcher alright? I'm happy to share. I don't think they do usually but it's kind of traditional for me to have iced tea with interviews so I called ahead. I hope you don't mind."

Marcus hummed a little bit as he jotted down the information in his notebook. It was always good to build up a picture of the person being interviewed,

"Alright then Darcie... I can call you Darcie right?" he asked with a small smile, "How long have you been a professor at Durmstrang? Are you fond of your students?"

Darcie listened to Marcus when he decided that he was going to ask her some new questions, it was so nice of him to ask ahead to make her feel comfortable, she had heard that some reporters had drugged the things that they gave the people they interviewed but she didn't believe that Marcus would ever do that.

"Oh no I don't mind at all Marcus, I'm happy that you did so, I much prefer soft drinks to alcohol they taste so much nicer." she said happily, placing her head on the top of her folded hands, her elbows resting on the table.

When he asked her if he could call her Darcie she nodded her head and giggled a little;

"Of course, it is my name after all, I started teaching about two years ago and I absolutely love my students they are all completely wonderful kids and I really do get attached to each one of them, although perhaps I shouldn't." she smiled gently.

Marcus was glad to see that his approach as a 'nice guy reporter' was working to make Darcie feel responsive to his questions, even if they were nothing intrusive. The main reason why he was so good at that was because for him it wasn't an act. He just happened to be a nice guy and a reporter,

"I know right?" he grinned and sipped at his own iced tea before sighing happily, "There's just a sweetness, an innocent sweetness, to soft drinks that alcohol can't ever match up to."

Marcus smiled happily, glad that he was able to call her Darcie. Sometimes people wanted to be formal and Marcus wasn't very good at remembering to use their surnames,

"Sounds like you're enjoying teaching these kids an awful lot! Is it a rewarding experience, teaching?" he asked her, both for the article and from genuine curiosity, "Do you normally travel back via the ship at the end of the year?"

Darcie smiled happily and she nodded her head she was going to be able to live her whole life drinking soft drinks, she did not think that drinking alcohol was needed, however it was something that often made her look strange when she was out with her friends.

When he asked her the next question Darcie nodded her head, her large smile still on her lips, she was very glad that the questions all seemed to be nice so far although she knew that they would become far more sensitive as the interview went on.

"Oh yes I always take the Ship to the shore because I like to be able to see that all the students are alright on their way to the shore, and that they manage to meet up with their families, not many of the professors at Durmstrang really care that much about that."
