Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Vacation was entirely too short, but she found it nice to be back in the castle, not that she'd admit to anyone. She began to fix the seats back to its proper place, and she smirked satisfied that everything was in place.
Writing her lesson on the board "Black Fire Potion" she sat down on her desk and she waited for her class to begin.

Airen entered the classroom. The break was rather short for him, and there wasn't much he did. All in all, he was glad to be back at Hogwarts. It gave him something to look forward to. Back at the Swordmage Academy, he only had about one or two more years to learn all there was to know about Swordmage magic, and now, there was even more to magic.
"Afternoon, Professor," he greeted casually. He slid into his seat and took out his things.

Victoria breathed in deeply, feeling her muscles relax in the darkness of the dungeons. She'd been entirely too anxious over the summer, hearing that she would get to compete for Hogwarts in the Tournament.
Though it had made her more vigorous in her studies. Taking a seat near the front, she smiled at the professor and gathered her things. "Hello, Professor. How was your summer?"

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Oh potions, this was a class she missed. Potions was a complicated class, especially with the Professor's short temper, but enjoyable nonetheless. Seeing Victoria there, she sat down beside her, and smiled at Airen seeing him there, and towards the professor.
It seemed silly to even ask Victoria how her summer was..considering they spent it together, so she simply waited for Professor Valentine to respond.

Zara still hadn't recovered from the break which seemed to be rather short. She was going to miss having her long sleep-ins. Then again, Hogwarts was like her other home and she was excited to be back.
Walking into her first class of the year, she greeted the professor with a slight nod and took a seat near the back, getting out her things as she did so.

Charlotte was excited for her first lesson of potions, she did quite like to stir in the ingredients and see the effects. As she walked into the classroom she saw Airen sat down and happily moved to sit down next to him, smiling up at the professor,
"Afternoon professor." she turned and smiled at Airen, "Afternoon Air, how's your day been so far?"

Potions was a class where you had to keep your head. Read the instructions carefully, and pay attention to the other students. If a potion was brewed incorrectly, it could become deadly. Best to stay on your toes in this class. He entered, and decided to take a seat next to Zara. Hopefully, she was still willing to be friendly towards him.
"Hello Professor Valentine, good to see you again." Humphrey said as he sat down. Taking out his potions kit, and his course book, he prepared himself for what they would be brewing. Instructions, always look them over at least twice before following them. That was his potions motto.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Angel nodded towards the students and let out a small smirk at the ones that greeted her.
"My summer was a relaxing one I can assure you Miss Rossmund. But then again you know how great it can be being away from school"
She didn't usually respond to student's questions, but she had a soft spot for her fourth years, not that she'd admit it.
"Open to page 433 and begin to read while we wait for the others."
The Ice Potion (Black Fire Potion) is a potion used to move through black flames unscathed. Effect-wise, it is similar to the purple fire potion: it makes the drinker feel an icy surface surrounding him or her, and provides protection for going through the flames safely.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
(Hi Mami Mel sorry im late, had a minor crisis with the internet. But its all good now!)
Salina hurried along to her potions lesson. Well, I say hurried, really she dawdled because if the truth was to be told, Salina no longer held any interest in school or good grades. She bowed her head as she walked with a sad expression, one that had seemed to become permanently schooled onto her face. She walked into the class just before it begun and took a seat.
She listened to the Professor's instructions and reached down. She pulled her book out of her bag and set it up on the desk. She turned to page 433 and began to read. Her eyes stared at the page, for she could not seem to process anything on the page itself. The words made no sense, and she sighed heavily. This was no use, she told herself.

Seeing that most of her students were here, and some were missing, she decided to begin the lesson.
"Welcome to fourth year, Potions, hope you all enjoyed your summer, and you can talk about it later because lessons have begun" She said with a smirk.
Walking to the board, she placed her hands on her hips ready to ask the new question.
"Now tell me students, knowing my teaching methods from last year, why would I teach you the Black Fire Potion?"

Victoria raised her hand. She wasn't absolutely sure, but figured a guess was better than saying nothing.
"This potion could be a great defense against witches or wizards that use fire magic. Whether it be during battle or to aide in rescue or escape during an attack."
She wondered if something like this would ever be mentioned in their Infiltration class.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Keiba trudged down the stairs to the dungeon, her mind elsewhere. She hadn't meant to be late, but one of the Slytherin Prefects had pulled her up for 'incorrect uniform', as they called it. They'd made her pull her tie up so far it was almost choking her and scrub her face because it had a little bit of dirt on it. She seethed, thinking how much that one prefect irked her.
Keiba pushed on the potions door, surprised to see it wasn't locked. She hurriedly dumped her stuff at the desk next to Zara and sent an apology towards Professor Valentine. At least she was looking 'presentable'. Keiba scowled internally as the older boy's sneer rang through her head again and she had to refrain from slamming her book down on the desk. She was riddled with worry and stress and just... really did not need that.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Angel sighed as the door was pushed open and Miss Namid entered. A frown eminent on her face, she let Miss Rossmund finish before she acknowledged Miss Namid.
"Five points from Ravenclaw, please make sure to make it to class next time." she said frowning.
Turning to Miss Rossmund, she nodded.
"Good, five points to Gryffindor. Now, please partner up and we can begin the potion."
Ice Potion
Ingredients:
3 Aconite flower petals
1 Ashwinder Egg
1/2 cup of Bat Blood
8 Black Beetle Eye
6 Pairs of Fair Wing
1 Griffin Claw
2 Pints of Blackberry Juice
8 Dried Flying Seahorses
1 pint of Honey Water
10 Nightshade.
Instructions:
1) Add the 2 pints of blackberry juice in the cauldron at 78 degrees.
2) Mashed Aconite flower petals (Until it becomes a paste) and then add it slowly and mix in until there are no lumps in mixture. (USE GLOVES)
3) Seperately, crack the Aswinder egg and whisk adding the ripped dried fair wings and once together add into the mixture slowly until it turns grey.
4) Raise the temperature to 80 degrees for 90 seconds then return to base temperature.
5) Add one Griffin claw, make sure it absorbs the liquid and keep it mixed until you cannot see it.
6) Use the spell Incendio to make into a solid.
7) Lower the temperature to 58 and add the Honey Water and mix until it becomes a liquid once more. (Make sure to mix thoroughly or else the mixture shall be faulty)
8 ) Add the 1/2 the cup of bat blood (Should turn black once more)
9) Mix together (in a separate bowl) the flying seahorses and the beetle eyes until mash and add into the potion.
10) Wait for it to boil 15 minutes and add nightshade.
11) Lower flame and cool it down by using the spell Glacius.
"The spell is very easy to do, two counterclockwise turns, and a two flicks before saying Glacius. Make sure to practice it before it is used or else failure could be fatal."

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Zara turned her head towards the door and saw a fuming Keiba rush into the classroom. Zara noticed her tie rather higher than usual.
When the teacher instructed them to get into pairs, Zara wasn't sure whether to go with Keiba or Humphrey. "Do you think the professor would let us three work together?" she quietly asked her two friends.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
"Well, let's find out. Professor Valentine, do you mind if Keiba, Zara, and I work as a group?" Humphrey asked her. They didn't have any time to waste, this potion looked complex. Even though she said the spell to finish it was easy, he knew this would be possibly the most difficult potion they'd done in here.
Whether he was working with Keiba and Zara or not, he needed to start getting the ingredients. So, he began to pull them out of his potions kit, and set them on the table one by one. "So, you think anybody is going to test this potion on their own time? You know, see if they can walk through fire." he whispered to his friends.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
A flicker of disappointment charged over Keiba's mind, but the second it had come it was gone again. She found she couldn't care less how many points she lost; there was much more important stuff out there.
She glanced up when Humphrey spoke, then shrugged. "I don't really mind," Keiba said to her different-housed friends. She licked her dry lips and waited on Professor Valentine's answer.
Humphrey started grabbing ingredients out, and he stopped for a second to whisper a question. "I would," Keiba blurted out. Then she added solemnly, "Even if it didn't work I don't see what I've got to loose." She really was in a crappy mood today.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Clearly, something was up with Keiba. She was much more reserved than usual, and she looked different. Frustrated, tired, maybe even a little angry. This wasn't like her at all, and Humphrey was worried. "Whoa Keiba, I wasn't saying we should try it. This is dangerous, I mean, if you want we could I suppose. Something's up with you Keiba, what's going on?" he whispered to her as quietly as he could.
If the teacher caught them talking about testing the potion they were doomed. It would be detention at the very least, and he needed to do well in this class. Potions was one of the classes Humphrey would need to do well on to be an Auror. When he took his ordinary wizarding levels next year Potions would be one he needed to ace so he could continue on in it to Newt level. "Okay, so I believe the first step is heating the cauldron to seventy-eight degrees. Once it is there, we need to add two pints of blackberry juice." Humphrey said, looking at his notes to make sure he was right. Stoking the fire under the cauldron, he waited for it to reach the right temperature.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Victoria grinned at Tess. It was a given by now that they would pair together, so she just walked over to the ingredient cabinet to get the things they needed.
Once she was back she started cauldron so it would get to the correct temperature. "I'll do the first half if you wanna do the second," she said to Tess.
While that was heating, she mashed the petals, and the mixture of egg and wings. When it was at 78 degrees, she added them in the written order, watching the potion turn grey. Then she raised and lowered the temperature, added the claw and then mixed it thoroughly. Using the designated spell, surprised at the drastic change in the potion.
She turned to Tess, waiting for her to finish it.

Re: Potions: Fourth Year, Lesson 1
Tess grinned as Victoria started the potion, as usual. She hummed and wrote down the ingredients to the potion so they could reuse it if necessary. And as Victoria worked, she practiced the spell.
Once it was her turn, she immediately stepped up and lowered the flame to 58 degrees. She added the bit of Honey water for the potion and began to mix the potion until it was a liquid again. It was really tough and she murmured cursing words as she did.
At the mention of Bat blood, she mixed it in as fast as possible so Victoria wouldn't get too miffed. And while she didn't know if Victoria would be affected or not, she knew that it was not wise to take a chance. She wrinkled her nose as she mashed the flying seahorses and the beetle eyes together before putting the mash in the black potion now. She mixed it and after the fifteen minutes, added the Nightshade. As she got to the last step she bit her bottom lip grinning and uttered the spell.
"Glacius!!" she replied with two counterclockwise moves and two flicks.

Angel waved her hand and she allowed the three to work in pairs. Honestly they didn't have to ask if it worked with odd numbered people, but she kept mum, still watching them work over the potion.
As most of them finish, she spoke up.
"Good job, now lesson is over, please clear your work stations, put potion in vials and put a name tag so I can grade you. Class Dismissed, have a nice day"
