We're Partners? (Kiera and Charina)

Kiera languidly stretched her neck as she opened the door to Cruor Sanctorum, to let her new attack partner, Charina, inside. The armory was dimly lit, curtains were drawn, and gleaming weapons were mounted upon the walls, and on the counters. Kiera repressed a smirk. Oh, she just loved her shop.

Kiera walked behind the counter and waved a hand over the display, "Pick any one you like. Then we can try it out in the rooms behind the shop. And of course, check whether we can really fight together or not."

Charina entered the Cruor Sanctorum, just behind Kiera. They were assigned by Aurelia to be attack partners, and so they ended up here.

Chari looked around at all the weapons. Surely these were all rather expensive. If not, they were rather powerful. She then looked up after Kiera told her to pick any and that they could test it afterwards.

A devilish smile appeared on Chari's face. She walked around for a minute, until her eyes landed on a dagger. It was marked 'Exclusive.' And it had every right to be there. The Umbra, as the nameplate says, was a '...goblin-made dagger forged in white-hot dragon-fire. Invisible, excellent for sneak attacks.'

Chari smirked. It was perfect. "I think I'd like to test the Umbra," she said simply.

Kiera cast an appraising glance on Charina. Her respect for the woman had just increased by several notches. "Excellent choice. You have good taste." Kiera remarked, then slowly withdrew the dagger from the display. Her hand fit comfortably around the ivory hilt, then she quickly did a few experimental slashes in the air. Yes, just as light as ever. It had been long since Kiera had practiced with a dagger.

"Here you go." After handing the dagger over, Kiera walked to the back of the shop, and murmured a few words. Immediately, there were several clicking sounds, like wards unlocking, and the back door after glowing blue for some time, swung open. Kiera briskly walked into her practice room behind her shop, a small, circular arena lit up with lamps that threw out pale blue, flickering light. She withdrew her own sword, Krusa, from its invisible sheath hanging from her belt. She then turned to face Charina, hand firmly grasped around Krusa's hilt, "Ready?"

Charina nodded and smiled. She took the dagger as Kiera handed it over to her. Light as air and powerful as the poison of a basilisk. She followed Kiera as they walked to the back of the shop.

Chari heard several clicking sounds, then a door opened. She smirked.

She followed Kiera inside, tightly gripping the dagger. Chari watched as Kiera withdrew her own sword; it was blue and there seemed to have an icy feeling in it. She then nodded. "Ready as ever," she said quietly.

Kiera smiled slightly on seeing Umbra in Charina's hands. It couldn't have ended up with anyone better. "Say Invisiblis to make the dagger invisible."

Kiera also saw Charina looking at Krusa, and sensing its power. Kiera raised up her blade, "Its called Krusa. Leaves an icy, numbing sensation on whoever touches the blade. It can paralyze, and draw out energy from living, breathing human bodies." Then Kiera smirked slightly. "Thought you should know, since I'm attacking you now." And with that, Kiera lunged, bringing down Krusa towards Charina's left shoulder blade. Now it remained to be seen whether Charina would deflect the blow or not.

Charina nodded at Kiera's instructions. She mumbled 'invisibilis' while Kiera spoke, and she didn't seem to notice. "I say, where'd you get these weapons? Extremely powerful, these all are," she smirked.

Kiera told her she was attacking. Wait, what? All Chari remembered was that Kiera slashed on her left shoulder blade. Before she knew it, Chari blocked the attack. A small 'omph' escaped from her mouth, because the impact was so strong.

Chari gripped Umbra tighter and slashed at Kiera's abdomen. Even she couldn't see what happened, due to the invisibility of the dagger. But even if it did hit, it wouldn't leave a very big mark. She didn't want her partner getting hurt before the attack, did she?

Kiera raised an eyebrow when Charina deflected the attack. "Well done, Chari. Very few would have been able to deflect that blow." Kiera praised, then her pupils grew wide as Charina jabbed Umbra towards her abdomen.

Barely, barely Kiera swung her blade just in time to parry the stroke. Her respect for the woman was rising with each passing second. Kiera smirked, swirling around deftly, "Well, I spent the twenty-two years of my life on four different continents," She brought her blade around, "in ten different countries, " and executed a backhand stroke towards Charina's right thigh, "raiding weapons from all the weapon hoards in the world. All the different bandits and dragons in the world are not so pleased with me."

Kiera was not using her full force, but not holding back completely either, since firstly, Krusa's current power level would not hurt Chari but just leave a horrible numbing sensation. And secondly, Kiera trusted Charina's strength enough for her to deflect the blows.

"Well, I'm pretty skilled at handling daggers. If I weren't, I'd probably be numb by now." Chari smirked.

"Twenty-two?" she asked, surprised. She's only stayed in different continents for 9 years or so. But twenty-two? Her respect for Kiera rose. They would probably the best team.

Chari was so amazed - although it did not show - that she didn't even realize the next blow that came. She blocked just in time to protect herself from going numb. Krusa was inches from her thigh, but luckily she came back to her senses.

At the same time, she ducked to the left, just in case the blade might have slashed her thigh completely. Bending her arm, she made a certain stroke with her wrist and made a blow at Kiera's neck. Not exactly a blow, since if it hit Kiera, there may be a lot of bleeding and complaining.

Chari felt her blade hit something. Blade on blade, blade on skin; she did not know.

"Yes, I'd say you are definitely skilled with daggers because its been ages since someone deflected more than one blow from my blade." Kiera smirked in approval as Chari deflected the blow towards her thigh.

Then Chari said in a shocked manner, "Twenty-two?" Kiera smiled in reply, "I am currently twenty-two years old, and yes, I've spent all the years of my life doing this, in different countries. Okay, maybe you can make that nineteen years, I didn't really start till I was four." Kiera smirked almost dangerously.

Then Chari darted her hand towards Kiera's neck. It was extremely difficult to block a blow from an invisible dagger, that too in the hands of someone like Chari. Kiera brought up her blade to deflect it, but it was too late. However, Umbra clanged off from the thick silver chain hanging around Kiera's neck, rather than making contact with flesh. Kiera rubbed it slightly, "Can't count the number of times this thing has saved my life."

"Hm... well, sometimes it's just plain luck. But I wouldn't exactly call it 'luck' when I'm in the mood." Chari said, shrugging.

Then she listened as Kiera spoke, waiting for another blow. "Mm, four years old. A right time to start a great journey. You must've been very intelligent," she praised. She noticed that Kiera smirked, which sounded dangerous. Her respect for Kiera rose. Now, Chari was sure that they would be the best group.

Unless, of course, someone else makes a fool of them.

She heard a noise. Blade on blade. Umbra clanged off of Krusa. Chari looked up. It wasn't Krusa, but a thick silver necklace on Kiera's neck. "Well, I'd say that's a rather strong chain you've got there." she smirked and lowered Umbra.

"I guess this is enough training for now. We might accidentally do an actual blow and hurt each other. Perhaps we could get to know each other more. It may be useful." Chari said and rubbed her aching wrist.

"Sure." Kiera shrugged. She lowered Krusa, disillusioned it as usual, and stowed it away inside a sheath underneath her cloak. She then withdrew her wand, conjured two comfortable chairs, gestured for Charina to sit if she wanted to, and sat down herself.

"Yes, four years. It was quite an early age I suppose, but no time's too early if you want to make a mark on the world." Kiera absently rubbed the silver chain lying against her neck. "As for this chain, it is enchanted to be more durable and stronger. Got it from Aswan, Egypt. The tomb guards weren't very happy when it went missing." Kiera chuckled slightly at the memory.

"So....whats your background? How did you come to join the rebels?"

Chari sat down just as the chairs appeared. She put Umbra inside a sheath which contained a few small daggers. She listened as Kiera told her about her history. "Mm.. hm... everyone wants to make a mark on the world, I'm sure. It's just that some people are too afraid," she commented.

She nodded and smirked. "Hm... well, I ran away from home after Voldemort killed my family. My parents were Death Eaters. I didn't really like that, so I asked them to leave him. I guess He found out, so he decided to kill all of us. I managed to escape, unharmed. I grew up in the streets then, but I got my Hogwarts letter soon enough,"

"After I finished school, I started traveling around the world. Aurelia found me, and took me in the organization. I left for a few months for some training, then I went back..." Chari said. "Nothing very interesting, though. Maybe we could talk about our skills? Hm? What weapons are you best at, which ones you are worst at... your favorite weapons - besides Krusa, of course; etcetera." she asked.

"Grew up in the streets, but you're quite talented." Kiera inclined her head in acknowledgement. "I've never attended Hogwarts though. Too busy travelling the world."

"As for weapons, well.......I've made, wielded and breathed weapons ever since I've been born. It's less of an occupation and more of a passion." Kiera almost lovingly ran a finger over Krusa's blade. "I've practiced and wielded all kinds of weapons: blades, daggers, bow and arrow, spears, whips, guns and so on forth. I'm best at stealth, or blazing out offence. Defence isn't really my thing. So......my lifelong companions are this, as you already know," Kiera gestured towards Krusa, "And this." Kiera slid out her S&W chrome and silver pistol.

"Hmm, well, I learned to protect myself," Chari shrugged. "I bet you'd probably be creating weapons of destruction if you found out a whole lot more about magic."

After Kiera finished speaking, she nodded. "A passion, eh? You must be very serious about this, then. I've also practiced and wielded different kinds of weapons. I'm quite good at handling guns, but daggers and knives are my specialty. I'm skilled at throwing," she said. She took out a dagger and showed it to Kiera. "Chyrída, the mighty blade. I stole this from Greece, after I graduated from Hogwarts. By then, I had enough money."

"Chyrída was my first-ever dagger, so it's a lot like what you call a 'lucky charm'. Tons have been killed by this dagger. I have other weapons, but they're back at home and Chyrída is the one I mainly use. The others are for other purposes," Chari said. "Chyrída's blade is filled with basilisk venom. One scratch, and the enemy either gets paralyzed or dies in an instant. It depends on the opponent. If he/she is strong enough, they only get paralyzed. So on, so forth."

Kiera examined the dagger Charina just brought forth with interest. "Chyrida is it? I think I've heard of it, I've got tomes and tomes filled with information on old, powerful weapons. The Greeks must be going wild to find it." Kiera's lips quirked in amusement. She so rarely found someone that she could discuss weapons with, that it was quite a refreshment talking with Charina. She added with a smirk, "As for weapons of mass destruction, well, I haven't discounted the possibilities yet."

"Basilisk venom hmm.....quite effective, regarding the fact that its lone antidote, phoenix tears are so rare and difficult to find. Though, just as a precaution, you do own a vial of phoenix tears don't you? Seeing your talent, I doubt it, but you never know when an enemy might use your own blade against you. It's always better to be prepared."

Chari smirked. "Well, I have caused a lot of trouble when I stole it. It was worth it, though," she replied.

"Of course, phoenix tears do come in handy. I have a couple of vials back home, but I bring two vials along with me. Most have already tried Chyrida against me. Luckily, I only get partly paralyzed," Chari shrugged. "Just a drop in the mouth works, if you were to heal all the wounds. But a couple of drops would be needed if you want to heal only the blade's cut. Discovered that years ago. The scene wasn't very pretty."

Chari put Chyrida back into a sheath underneath her cloak. She crossed her legs and sighed. "What was it like to travel around the world? Exhausting? Exciting? Hm?" she asked Kiera.

Kiera winced slightly in sympathy, "A few phoenix tear drops to heal the wound? The dagger's poison must be quite effective then, add to the fact that basilisk venom gets stronger with age? How old do you think the dagger is?"

"How was it like? Well...." Kiera stared off into the distance, memories and images flashing before her eyes, "It certainly wasn't a long, luxurious vacation how people imagine it to be. At the age of ten, I was sent to Asia under the care of a house-elf....I stayed five years there in different countries, getting training from different people. It was a disciplined life. Then to Africa......that was plain exhilarating and adventurous. Then Europe and America, for a bit of peace. Then Australia. I saw a lot, learnt a lot......" Kiera's eyes clouded over slightly, "Never had much of human company though."

Chari nodded and smiled. "Yes, it is quite effective. The dagger is probably... sixteen years? The Greeks told me it was ten years old. That was when I was seventeen. I'm twenty three now, so... sixteen it is." she shrugged.

Chari listened as Kiera spoke about her travels. From Asia, to Africa... Kiera even reached Australia! But not having much of human company? Hm... "Not much company, eh? That was one lonely journey! Then you're already probably used to being alone?" she said afterwards.

"Oh, by the way, what do you suppose we do when we go and attack that german guy from the Department of Secrets?" Chari asked
