Homesick and lonely

Annika was feeling quite meloncholy by the time she reached her dorm room. She had had a great visit with the professor and had been able to show Emmi off, but it made her miss her family at the same time.

She wouldn't be going home for Christmas break this semester. It seems Papa had to travel to see his sister who was ill and was taking the family with him. They would be spending the holidays in Bitburg with her cousins. She hadn't seen Johann and Kirsten in about three years and it would have been a lot of fun to catch up with them and go hunting for a Christmas tree to cut.

Sighing she put Emmi in her nest, and pulled out her potions book to look over the last few lessons. She knew it was getting late, but she just didn't feel like sleeping tonight. Emmi was already asleep and little puffs of smoke escaped when she breathed. "Lucky she isn't old enough for flames. I'd have to put her nest outside on the ledge at night. She might not mind but I would feel more alone than ever."

Taking out her quill she began in earnest to study and try to get over being homesick. Maybe tomorrow would be a better day.
