She chuckled. "Indeed. Even though mum keeps talking about sending them to the slaughterhouse... if she serves one of them for dinner I think I'd puke, no matter how distasteful they were alive."

Keiba thought a bit. "No, not really. Just a tad boring. I mean, we didn't really do much, my sisters were still in school and all so yeah... I just sat around a lot."

Seeing that her class was soon becoming a chat-fest she frowned all the more. Honestly could she have one class that devoted themselves to potions. Clearing her throat, she hoped the girl would calm down.

"If you wouldn't mind, may I continue my class?" she said raising her brow.

Why weren't children more well behaved. Sighing, she turned to the wall and the potion ingredients were there.

"I am putting you in groups not to chat but to do work. Now pay close attention"

Swelling Potion

8 cups of Dragon blood, in your cauldron.
One person must turn it counter clockwise for thirty seconds
Add 3 drops of Wolfsbane (turn cauldron after each drop counter clockwise)
Wait for potion to turn green.
Add 3 Dragon fangs (remember to turn it to dust)
4 puffer-fish scales (by this point it must turn purple)
8 puffer-fish eyes (now should turn blue)
Raise flame towards high and in exactly seven minutes place one rat tail and cover and turn of flame (a small explosion will occur inside)

"You must trust your partner for this experiment, so I say enough chatter and get your ingredients"

Keiba read the list of ingredients on the board and jumped up to grab them out of the store cupboard. "I'll get 'em, Haley," she offered. She made her way over to the storage cupboard and loaded her arms with the necessary ingredients.

"Man, I can't wait for that explosion," she teased, setting the ingredients down one after the other onto the workbench.

Tess looked at the ingredients and after a few seconds, she had them memorized, thank Merlin for her photographic memory.

"I'll get the ingredients okay?" she said smiling towards Victoria. "You start the cauldron"

She grabbed a tray and began to get the ingredients, placing them perfectly on the table to get the perfect measurements. Potions was not a laughing manner, at least not to her and so she grabbed the ingredients and walked towards their table once more.

"You turn the potion I'll add the ingredients okay?" she murmured.

"Sounds perfect!" As Tess went off to get the ingredients Victoria copied down the instructions, for future use and in case the teacher took them down.

She readied her cauldron and set out her mortar and pestle to grind up the dragons tooth. As Tess came back to the table she was ready to mix!

Zara raced through the classroom door. "Sorry I'm late! I got lost!" She said, finding the nearest seat and sitting down as quick as she could. She noticed the instructions on the board, so she got out her things and began to copy down the writing.

She felt so embarrassed. She was sure everyone stared at her as she ran into the classroom. First day back and already making a complete fool of herself.

Charlotte wondered why students hadn't learnt by now not to talk in classes and she hoped that they wouldn't get any points taken from their houses for disobeying the Professor.

When she said that they needed partners, and most people already having paired up, Charlotte turned to Airen with a smile and moved little closer to him.

"Want to pair up Air?" she asked, a little shyly.

Going to get the ingredients Charlotte managed to juggle them all in her hands safely, making it back to their table. Now, to actually start the potion.

Salina looked up at Leshia and smiled weakly when she asked if they wanted to be pairs. She nodded her head once, and then bowed it as she tried not to sigh. "Sure, Lesh." She mumbled, waiting for further instructions as to how they should brew the potion.

She shifted her position in her seat and saw that they were brewing swelling solution. She opened the book and turned the page to one on swelling solution, her eyes skimming over the instructions.

Keiba inwardly burst out laughing as poor old Zara rushed into the room. You're in your second year and still getting lost... Keiba shook her head. Some Slytherin Zar was.

Noticing that Zara wasn't going to have anyone to pair up with, she turned to Haley. "Hales, you don't mind if I ask the Professor if Zara can be our third member? It's just she doesn't have a partner, and I'd rather her not get all stressed out about it.

Keiba raised her hand. "Professor?" she started cautiously; Professor Valentine didn't seem such a co-operative teacher today. "Is it fine with you if Zara joins myself and Haley?"

Airen tried to keep his annoyance at the chatter down. He breathed deeply and felt it slowly wash away. He looked over as charlotte asked if he wanted to pair up with her. He smiled.

"Of course, Charlotte," he said, also having a shy smile on his face. When she returned with the potion ingredients, he helped her unload a few of them, so as not to risk dropping one. Airen quickly copied down the instructions.

Charlotte smiled happily when Airen agreed to partner up with her, she still felt that she needed to ask even if she knew that he was going to say yes most of the time.

"How shall we do this? We each do a few bits of the potion? If I do the first few steps then you can take over?"

Hoping that he wouldn't mind this way of doing things, Charlotte looked at the instructions that the Professor had provided and divided them in half, or, tried to make them as equal as possible.

"Okay here goes."

Charlotte grimaced slightly as she had to scoop 8 cups full of dragons blood, a normally rare ingredient and she hoped that it wasn't from the dragon that lived in the Hogwarts grounds. Adding them to the cauldron she looked at the next step.

Taking up a ladle Charlotte began to stir the potion counter clockwise, counting the seconds accurately so that she didn't mess the potion up, and after 30 seconds she stopped ready for the next set of instructions.

Charlotte then used a pipette in order to add a drop of Wolfsbane to the potion, stirring it counter clock wise, then adding another drop and repeating the stirring and a final drop and a last counter clockwise stir.

Then as the instructions said Charlotte waited for the potion to turn green, the perfect time to swap over.

"You want to have your turn?" she asked with a smile.

Haley smiled at Keiba "Of course I don't," she said with a smile.

She then added some ingredients into the cauldron, then smiled over at Zara as well, giving her the all clear to come over sign. Meaning being kind.

Airen watched as Charlotte made her half of the instructions. He busied himself with crushing the three dragon fangs into a fine powder. When the potion had turned green, he said to her, "I'm ready." He immediately set to work. He sprinkled the powder into the cauldron. He took four puffer fish scales and slipped them in.

He frowned when the potion didn't turn purple. It did shortly after he thought that. Sighing in relief, he continued. Dropping the eight puffer fish eyes into the cauldron, he waited for it to turn blue. The potion turned an deep, bright blue.

Airen raised the flame to high. He began counting to seven minutes.

"Ready with the rat tail?" he asked. 5 minutes to go.

Returning with the ingredients she smiled seeing Victoria ready to do this.

"Okay once I put in the ingredients start mixing, then we trade off okay?"

She began adding the Dragon blood, surprised by it's almost purple tinge to it.

"Incendio" she murmured and the cauldron was heating up.

After thirty seconds, she added three drops of Wolfsbane.

"Remember counter clockwise" she said softly to Victoria. "Do you want to do the rest?" she asked.

Leshia looked over at Salina and she signed a little she felt so bad for her best friend. She knew that something was bothering her, whether it be Corrine or her parents she was not sure. Most days she wanted to kill Tabi but she was not sure how she would handle it if she was not there at all. She would probably feel the same way. Leshia just wished she could cheer her up.

"If you want to warm up the cauldron, I will go get the ingredients.' Making her way over to the storage cupboard she grabbed what they needed, but she kept looking back at Salina.

She walked back over to their station and began getting everything prepped for the potion.

"Come on Salina, we will get through this together, just let me help you." Leshia was not just talking about the potion but about everything in general and she hoped that Salina knew that.

Tabi was enjoying her time with Ivano but now it was time to get to work. She got up to get the ingredients that they needed for the potion. Tabi went ahead and got the stuff because that was the way she was trained. It was her job to do for the man and it just happened.

After retrieving the items she got everything set up and going for the potion.

"Hey Ivano, are you going to be the one who turns the cauldron?"

Keiba sat down and quickly jotted down the instructions. After she'd finished that, she started prepping the other ingredients they'd need later on in the potion - crushing the dragon fangs, etc.

"Are you ready for the Wolfsbane, Hales?" she asked, preparing the liquid with a small pipette.

Zara turned around to see her friend, Keiba, giggling about her. She playfully stuck her tongue out at her.

Zara smiled when Keiba asked the professor if she could be in her group. Personally, Zara hated working by herself considering how clumsy she could be at times. She was glad Keiba's partner didn't mind either.

Post by Parker Emery Sat Feb 18, 2012 5:02 pm

Parker read over what they were supposed to do. Maybe if Pxyis didn't want to work with him, which she probably didn't, he could do it himself. He was good at doing a few things at once. He jotted down the ingredients and took the list with him as he went to go get them. He took a few trips and once he got them all he set to preparing everything he could before he started.

He ground the dragon fangs into dust and set up all the ingredients in the order he'd be needed. With one hand he was ready to start turning the cauldron as he started to fill it with the dragon blood. Once he got it in, he struggled slightly as he started to turn it. Right after he reached for the Wolfsbane. With one hand doing the drops, he turned it with the other.

He kept his eyes drawn down as he watched it turn green. It didn't look quite right...perhaps his timing was off. He sighed as he added the fangs then the scales and then the eyes. The potion turning to the respective colours.

He quickly turned the flame high with one hand as he covered it with the heavy top, grimacing slightly as he placed it over. He set the timer and prepared for a long and terrible seven minutes.

"Sure." Victoria said. After Tess had put in the last drop of Wolfsbane and the potion had turned a vibrant shade of green she added the Dragon fangs that she had ground up.

She then added the scales, waiting for the purple shade, then the eyes. When it finally reached a blue that reminded her of the ocean, she quickly turned the flame on high.

She was glad for her muggle watch, for once. She noted the exact second the flame grew and started timing.

"Tess, do you have the rat tail ready?" She didn't want to mess up right at the end, so she kept an eye on her watch as they waited.

She was glad that it was working perfectly and both matched pretty well. Soon enough, she picked up the rat tail and wrinkled her nose.

"I got it" she said trying not to get grossed out.

This was the only thing that she didn't like about potions, the disgusting ingredients, but the rat tail was important and they couldn't mess up.

"Tell me when you're ready" she said.

Haley nodded. "Yup," she said with a smile.

When Keiba put in the liquid in, Haley added the wolfsbane. She then saw Parker sitting by himself making the potion. She frowned. Why wasn't Pxyis helping him? She sighed, thinking that if she wasn't very busy making this potion right, she would've gone over and helped him.

"All right, ready for seven minutes wait?" Haley asked when they had put in the required ingredients and looked pleased as the color was right.

She was also timing so she wouldn't lose their chance with the rat tail.

Charlotte smiled and waited with Air for the seven minutes to be up and then she held the rat tail loosely in her hand, waiting for the right moment to drop it in, when the timer dinged Charlotte smiled nervously and put the rat tail into the cauldron.

"Okay now to cover and take it off the heat."

Quickly Charlotte covered the cauldron with a lid and turned the flame down so that it would brew the way that the recipe said that it should, all there was left to do now was wait for the explosion.

"When you you reckon this explosion will happen?" she asked, scratching her head.

Airen stood by Charlotte as soon as she covered the cauldron and turned of the flame. He smiled at her and at how fast she was. He expected the small explosion to take awhile, but not long after she finished her question, a small boom came from the cauldron. Airen flinched at the suddenness of it.

"I guess now," he said. "Great job," he complimented, smiling proudly at her.

"Almost time." Victoria said to Tess, who was positioned, ready to drop in the rat tail. She quickly grabbed the lid.

She couldn't remember when potions had ever been this fun. The dankness of the room and the odd smells usually made her nose itch and her heart yearn for the outdoors. But working with a friend really did make all the difference. Even though they made a point not to talk, so the professor wouldn't deduct points, it was a comfortable silence that allowed Victoria a few minutes to think about other things...

She looked down to her watch and jumped. "In 3...2...1...now!"
