Lesson Three: Potions Empty Lesson Three: Potions

Post by Angel Valentine Tue Jan 10, 2012 5:59 am

Angel was ready for the lesson she would be teaching today. To be fair, her previous lesson was a simply introduction, but today she would try to get the students to understand just the power of Potions. Being a Hogwarts alumni herself, she knew that there were some misconceptions about Potions.

She knew that she was lucky in her scholarly years that she was a prior Slytherin herself, but now, she refused to show favoritism. Though the Gryffindor's did in fact clash with her personality traits, she did see that they were just spirited over learning, at least that's what she repeated to herself in a mantra.

As she waved her want, the room began to shift it's tables. She had moved the tables based on houses so it would be easier for her to define who was from what house. On the very left side she decided would be specifically for Slytherin, beside them would be the aisle, which then would be filled with more tables that were preserved for Ravenclaw. The reason she did this was because Ravenclaw, being more scholarly, would not be pestered by Slytherin. There was a gap to create an aisle, and then again would be tables which would be Hufflepuff on on the very right would be Gryffindor.

As soon as she was satisfied, she placed the tables for two, where she would assign their partners, if they were rowdy and if not they could choose themselves. Only for this week would she not force interaction between houses. Now she'd simply wait for them to enter.

Lesson Three: Potions Empty Re: Lesson Three: Potions

Alice made her way into the Potions room quietly, not wanting to draw more attention than she had to. She knew that she had not left the best impression on Professor Valentine the last class and she was determined to do better.

And not lose anymore points for Gryffindor.

She noticed that this time the tables were arranged by house, which slightly destroyed her hopes of working with Tess. But there was always after class as well. Quickly she made her way to the furthest to the front table, she would need to pay attention this time if she had any hopes of passing this class.

She settled into the seat and took her satchel off her shoulder, placing it on the desk. Next she put her cauldron before her. Sitting back in her seat, she pulled out her Potions book and reread the parts she had highlighted in her reading the night before.

Potions once more, and she was definitely excited. She had done the reading and was excited about whether or not they would be creating a potions. As she walked in, she saw Alice and her eyes brightened. She was planning to walk towards her and sitting there with her, but as soon as she saw that they were divided, she frowned.

So much for sitting together she thought frowning.

Still she sat at the very front of her row to be close to Professor Valentine.

Airen entered the classroom. He sat at the front of his group near the professor's desk and next to Alice with a kind smile on his face. Setting his bag down on the ground, he thought about the way the sorting of houses was pretty much a public stereotyping. While he'd never share this with some one unless the topic came up, he wished that, if he ever became Headmaster, he could change that.

"Good afternoon, Professor," he said, mannerism obvious in his behavior. He took out his quill and notepad.

Pxyis walked to her potions class with a huge smile. She adored potions, and she was sure it would be her favourite lesson for she found it most fascinating, along with Charms. She opened the door, happy to be on time to class and spied Tess. She noticed that in the class they were yet again divided into house groups.

Pxyis wandered over and dropped her bag down next to Tess, sitting down and smiling at her. "Hey Tess, mind if I sit here?" She asked.

Salina entered the classroom with a sour expression. She wasn't very fond of lessons in the first place, and the fact that it was potions just made it worse. Salina had no ida why, but she just had always wrinkled her nose at the notion of potions.
She took a seat in the designated Ravenclaw area and took through her memories with a frown. Perhaps, it was something that had happened at Uresla. The memory came rushing back, it was when they had been practicing swelling solution and a girl had flicked a bunch at her head, causing it to swell up to the size of the balloon. Salina grimaced at the memory- yes that was definitely why she despised potions.

Tabi was ready for the day to begin but why did it have to be potions first thing, she never was a morning person.

As Tabi walked into the classroom she noticed that the teacher had rearranged the tables around and had them set for each of the seperate houses. She noticed that Tess and Pxyis were already there so she pulled up a seat at the table behind them.

Tabi wondered why her sister was not there yet, yes was always the one who like to arrive on time. Tabi almost seemed a little jealous becasue Leshia had already made a really good friend and it appeared that she would not need her any more. Even though Tabi knew she was hard on her sister, but she thought her sister would always at least need her.

As Tabi thought about this she patiently waited for the class to start.

Corinne took a seat behind Pxyis for her potions lesson, smirking at the thought of being able to lean forwards and poke, prod or throw something at Pxyis and annoy her to no end. Pxyis' red face as she yelled at Corinne, effectively getting her in trouble made Corinne chuckle as she leant back in her chair, bag dropped next to her as she looked around in boredom.
She spotted Tabi and nodded her head at the girl, casting her eyes back to the blonde in front of her as several devious plans sprung to mind.

She nodded happily seeing that Pxyis was sitting beside her. She hoped that because of the house unity, people would try to get along and behave. That wasn't the case: She first started noticing that Tabi sat beside them, not beside, and Corinne had done the same.

She did hope that Tabi was still not angry at her for accidentally not replying to her, but, but Corinne had taken up her attention. As for Corinne, she did hope that nothing would happen during potions, especially because a simply pinch of something different would ruin the whole potion.

Nonetheless, she turned back and flashed a small smile to both girls. They had done nothing to label them as either good or bad and she wanted to keep it that way.

Lesson Three: Potions Empty Re: Lesson Three: Potions

Post by Angel Valentine Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:13 pm

She saw that more and more students began to pile in. While she was excited to teach the students about their potion, she could not help but think that there was a chance that some people would be late, after all the dungeons was a place that one could easily get confused.

"Now students, I do hope that I do not have to go over the rules of this classroom more than once. So after me describing them now, I will never say them again, rather points will be lost from your house. Now, here are my rooms for this class, for I see fresh faces, prior to the break." Taking out her wand she began to write out her first rule.

First Rule: While I appreciate your attempt to have input, please raise your hand before answering a question, that way I can give points towards your house.

Second rule: Please do all the work I have assigned, if you don't, it will not only affect your grade, but if I see that you are showing no effort you will not pass my class.

Third Rule: I do not want any arguments in my class room, I don't care if you think I have favorites, I do not care what you think of me, but I do care about your actions towards other students!

Fourth Rule: Please be careful with Potions please! Potions class can be dangerous if you do not know enough about it. Trust me please, I will not be liable for your ignorance any more.

Now....are there any questions?" she asked.

Lesson Three: Potions Empty Re: Lesson Three: Potions

Post by Guest Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:27 pm

Leshia walked into potions class once again she was dreading the class, if only she did not have to take it because of her father. As she walked in she noticed that the teacher had set everything up according to their house. Well that at least was a good thing becasue she was hoping she would have to deal with Tabi as least as possible, which was a good thing.

She walked over to where Salina was sitting and dropped down in her sit which made it move. She almost fell out of it. "Shoot" said Leshia

She glanced over to Salina and whispered 'You don't look like you want to be here anymore than I do."
After that comment the teacher started talking and Leshia knew she better listen becasue she didn't want to loose any points.

Post by Guest Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:40 pm

Salina giggled at Leshia as she almost fell out of her chair, and murmured, "Quite an entrance zere," before Leshia muttered something about Salina looking like she didn't want to be here anymore than Leshia did. Salina went to tell her that she was correct and explain to her why, but the teacher had begun talking and she didn't want to loose Ravenclaw any house points after the ones she had earnt in CoMC.
Instead, she ripped a piece of parchment out of her work book and dipped her quill into her ink, discreetly writing; Yes, I despise potions. It is because at Uresla, I had a little incident. A girl that I most dislike also disliked me, so she got Swelling Solution all over my face, and it swelled up like a balloon- Maman and Papa were most angry, for I had shamed the name of Girard by looking like a balloon head. I received quite a beating and a scolding, so I suppose that it where mine hatred for Potions comes from. Salina wrote, concentrating hard on her English and spelling.
She placed her quill back in her ink pot and slid the piece of parchment to Leshia, still listening to Prof. Valentine and reading the rules off of the board. She wished that they could get started already. The sooner they started, the sooner they finished and the sooner she got out of this class.

Salina giggled at Leshia as she almost fell out of the chair and just kind of gave salina a glare.

Leshia was listening to the teacher when Salina slipped her a note and Leshia read it.

Leshia could not believe it when she read the not but she could totally understand what it felt like when your parents feel like you embaressed the name.

Leshia tried to quietly reply back. "I can completly understand that, I have to take potions becasue of my father being a postions master, so it is expected of me"

Leshia slid the note back over to Salina, still listening to the teacher

Salina heard the sliding of parchment and looked down to see Leshia had written back.

Leshia had wrote, and Salina felt pity for her. She took potions because her Maman and Papa had chosen the subjects that she was to do for her, so she wasn't really doing it because she wanted to either. Slowly and with her eyes on the teacher and not on the parchment, she scribbled back.

That sucks. Before sliding over to Leshia, praying that the teacher hadn't noticed their exchange.

Post by Charlotte Smith Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:35 pm

Charlotte snuck into the classroom with a shameful look on her face, true she was late but she had been talking with Professor Romain so it wasn't as if she wanted to be late, this was her first lesson since Professor McBride and she was very excited for it.

Saying a quick apology to the Professor she hurried to the section of the classroom where the Slytherins were supposed to sit and she looked, sadly at Airen, she missed sitting by him as most lessons seemed to divide them up now.

Charlotte spied Pyxis and Tess, gesturing to the seat next to them silently asking their approval to sit there and she slipped into her seat with a happy smile.

"No Professor there are no questions." Charlotte said quietly

Lesson Three: Potions Empty Re: Lesson Three: Potions

Post by Alice Carroll Lane Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:18 am

When Alice heard the professor ask if there were any questions her hand shot up before she could even think twice.

She wanted to do something dangerous in class. After all, wasn't the wizarding world at least a tad bit dangerous? Why play all the lessons safely?

Tess smiled at Alice's comment, she knew that Alice embraced yet sometimes worried over the customs of the magical realm. She admitted that she was curious as well, she wouldn't want an accident to injure her or cause harm to anyone.

Post by Angel Valentine Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:50 am

One student was late, but knowing that she had an excuse, she let her be, no use losing points on the first day, but eyes trailed towards the House of Ravenclaw. She looked around the area and sighed noticing that chatter was beginning to arise, not orally, but through writing. The giggles, the quill dipped in ink every few turns. Honestly was that their discretion? These children weren't as creative as they were in her times. She lifted her hand and pulled the paper from the Ravenclaw's desk with a wandless Accio.

She said nothing towards them but rather threw the paper ball in the air and murmured "Incendio" setting it alight. She was going to speak to those girls, especially Leshia.

Turning back to the whole class, her impassive nature was clear. She would have to be tougher if she was going to get some respect in the class.

"Yes Miss Lane?" she said.

Alice had been called upon but was caught off guard by the ignited piece of paper. She blinked at the flame and then shook her head, trying to recall what she was saying.

"Right, uh Professor Valentine, are we going to be doing anything dangerous?" She asked with a raised eyebrow in curiosity.

Tabi didn't really have any questions but was listening for everyone else. When she saw this girl she knew to be Alice. She could not believe the question that this girl asked.

"Right, uh Professor Valentine, are we going to be doing anything dangerous?"

Tabi could not believe she even considered that a question.

Tabi could not help but mumble a little loud " What the heck do you think making potions is..Planting flowers..Geez of course they are all dangerous if not done right.

Parker was hurrying down the corridor, out of breath, having gotten a bit lost. He left for class a little bit late, not wanting to be early, but not being early had an awful habit of becoming terribly late. Classes being switched around and getting lost previously he had missed the first lesson and was angry at himself for it.

He swung the door open, freezing at seeing all the people already in there, the lesson seeming to have begun. He glanced around quickly seeing the room sectioned off by house.

Great. Only one other boy. So many other Slytherins too. As much as he felt he liked potions from the little he looked over in the book, it didn't seem like this was going to be much fun, considering how the tables seemed to be arranged for groups. Groups were never a good thing, and with all the other Slytherins coming from wizarding families it seemed, they of course knew more then him.

Salina watched as the parchment zoomed away from Leshia and up to the teacher, where she lit it alight and Salina had to hold back a burst of laughter. She had finally gotten in trouble, and she would've thought that it would make her embarrassed, but it just made her want to laugh.

She had never been the one to get in trouble in class, that was always reserved for Corinne and she looked to Leshia, realising that she would probably be blushing and having being caught. "Oops," Salina mumbled, a soft giggle coming out of her lips making her clap her hand to her mouth.

Pxyis looked up as she heard the door open to the potions classroom, and ignoring the icy glare Alice shot at Tabi who had mumbled something that Pxyis hadn't been paying attention to, she waved at Parker and motioned for him to sit down with the rest of the Slytherin's.

She then turned and looked at Salina, who looked like she was having a hard time holding back laughter after the teacher had burned up the note her and Leshia had clearly been passing to each other. Pxyis shot her a questioning look before turning back to face the front, just wanting to start the lesson already.
