Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Haley sighed at the noise the Ravenclaws were making; she was trying to pay attention! Potions was one of her favorite subjects, and she really looked forward to brewing and finding out more. She sighed again. She hadn't really made that many friends in Hufflepuff yet. She hoped that would change soon, though...
She looked at the Gryffindor who had just asked a question and smiled. Potions could be dangerous if brewed wrongly, but it was obvious that by looking at the Gryffindor's face that the girl wanted some action. Haley had to conceal a grin at that; she herself was really looking forward to the explosion some were destined to make, and the joys of success.
Haley then returned to making her notes.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
It was official she was annoyed. Not just because those two Ravenclaw girls reminded her of the average giggling girls, but because they were disrupting the class for the others. She was enjoying potions, although the professor being strict, but she figured that it came from frustration from moments like these.
Another part of her annoyance was Tabi. She never did think that Alice had said a stupid question, but hearing Tabi's comment, did make her feel bad for her friend. She felt bad because it was uncalled for, for her friend to be insulted that way, especially when she had asked a logical question.Still, she looked over and hoped her friend wasn't too hurt.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
"See me after class you two" she said towards the two girls.
She noticed more students had entered and simply replied with a
"Welcome"
Back towards Alice, she did feel pity for the girl. Her question was a fair one, a new student should be worried with potions and it was just a harmless question. Miss Ann's comment wasn't appreciated and so she began to instruct.
"Miss Ann, please be more courteous towards your pupil, for she is asking a fair question. Now Miss Lane, potions is a dangerous class to take, because of the severity of certain blunders. All you simply must do is trust me as your Professor to lead you towards success as you begin to concoct the potions." she said smiling. "But do not worries, this is beginners potions, we will start simple mixtures. We save more complex potions for Fourth year and above, and preparing you for your O.W.Ls or N.E.W.Ts or W.O.M.B.A.T examinations."
She wiped her board clean and wrote above the spell.
"Today we will be working on the Boil Cure"
"As you can see, I have written the first mixture we are to do. It is fairly simply. I was considering putting you into groups, but seeing as we do have an odd number of people and a lot of chattering going around, I'll simply ask you to work alone. If you have a question you may ask me, for I shall be walking around and inspecting the potions. Do not fear, simply read the instructions on the board and you will be fine...Any more questions?"

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Tabi noticed the glare that Alice was giving Tabi a cold glare but she could care less, Tabi thought it was a dumb question anyway then she got in trouble from the teacher.
"Miss Ann, please be more courteous towards your pupil, for she is asking a fair question."
She almost didn't realize the teacher was talking to her at first because she used her middle name..Geez don't you read you list but then maybe she used it so not to confuse with her sister..anyway she just let it go she had not lost any point as of now and didn't want to place any waves in the pool.
Along with with her getting in trouble she could not believe that her sister got in trouble. Her sister was always a goodie two-shoes, always wanting to be perfect.
Tabi looked up at the the board and noticed the potion that the teacher had posted. "Today we will be working on the Boil Cure"
Tabi knew how to brew this potion in her sleep. So she got out her cauldron and prepared the potion how she had done one too many times.

Leshia thought that her and Salina were being quiet enough about the note but she was proven wrong when the note flew out of their grasp and landed in the teachers hand.
"See me after class you two" she said towards the two girls.
Leshia just smiled at Salina and looked back to the teacher and noticed she got on Tabi about something she just wasn't sure. Tabi was probably being mean about something that is how she is.
She looked up on the board and noticed the what the teacher posted she wanted the class to do the boil cure potion.
She pulled out her cauldron, she really hated this potion, she remember a times she was down helping her father and Tabi got her in trouble by throwing a porcupine quill in the potion before it was suppose to and then it exploded on her. She got in so much trouble over that and she couldn't even convience her father she didn't do it.
She looked of at Salina as she began to set up her stuff Leshia smiled and her in all hope she could get this right. The more she thought about it, it was probably Tabi's fault she was so bad with potions, she always made her nervous.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Airen read the instructions. He wasn't sure they had enough time, especially for the forty-five minute wait. He inwardly told himself to breath. This was similar to muggle chemistry, but with the magic and odd ingredients.
He got his cauldron and other equipment out. He retrieved the ingredients. He looked at the instructions, and almost started. He decided to wait until everyone had a chance to ask questions before he began; he didn't want to be rude. When no one asked a question, he began.
Crushing the fangs began with a loud cracking sound that slowly faded and he ground them some more. Carefully measuring four measures, he placed them into the cauldron. "Incendio" he said. The temperature reached 250 right at the 10 second mark. He turned the heat down to maintain the temperature constantly. A wave of his wand, and it was done. Now to wait forty-five minutes.

Sinking into his seat, he sighed in relief when hearing that they would not be working in groups. But looking at the board he worried a bit. He'd never done anything like this and really didn't want to be the one making blunders. The instructions did seem simple enough though, and he hope it would go smoothly as long as he followed them.
He pulled out his cauldron, and skimmed through his book opening it to the page for the boils cure with instructions that mimicked that on the board. He read through some other information in the book and looked over the steps carefully so that he'd be sure not to make any mistakes.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Salina's smile was wide as she went up to the store cupboard at the front and retrieved the ingredients on the board. She carried them all back down to her desk carefully and placed them down, walking around the desk and taking a seat. "That was fun," Salina said with a grin. She'd never gotten in trouble before. "Have you ever gotten in trouble before? I haven't. It's more Corinne's thing," Salina muttered to Leshia, looking up at the board to read the instructions.
She dropped the 6 snake fangs into the mortar and crushed them up into a fine powder like instructed. She proceeded to add 4 measures of the crushed snake fangs to her cauldron, and heated it for 10 seconds. She was confused by the next step, but did it anyway. She grabbed her wand and waved it once over the cauldron. She then looked up at the teacher and raised her hand.
"Miss, what are we meant to do for the next 45 minutes?" She asked.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Pxyis got up and went into the store cupboard up the front, looking for the ingredients listed on the board. "6 snake fangs," she muttered, grabbing them, and doing the same with all the other ingredients. It took her a while to locate the horned slugs, but she eventually found them and walked back to her desk, dropping all of her stuff onto it and sitting down in front of her cauldron.
She looked at the board. "Crush 6 snake fangs using the pestle," she placed the snake fangs in the mortar and crushed them up into a fine powder with the use of her pestle. She measured out the snake fangs and put 4 measures into the cauldron. Pxyis looked back up at the board, noticing that everyone was starting as well.
She put the cauldron on the heat as the board said too. "1," she muttered, counting away the seconds as she maintained the heat at the right level. "2, 3," she continued on from that, counting upwards until she reached 10 and turned off the heat altogether. She picked up her wand and waved it over the cauldron, before leaning back in her chair and wondering what she was meant to do for the next 45 minutes.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
He looked up from the book, noticing everyone getting their ingredients. He watched where they got them from and then got up himself to go grab the ingredients he needed. Taking a while to locate them, or looking them over to make sure they were of good quality as far as he could tell, he then made way back to his seat, setting down the ingredients carefully.
Back at his seat, he took the pestle, dropping the snake fangs into the mortar and set on making sure he got them to a fine powder. Measuring then and placing four exact measures of the powder into the cauldron, he looked back to his book. Seeing he needed to heat it next. Once getting it up to 250 he counted to ten, though it could have been a few seconds longer because he'd gotten a bit distracted, watching the few girls waving their wands over the cauldron, so he could do it just like they did.
When waving his wand over the cauldron, he was thinking intently about wanting to cure boils with this, having the idea that the more you believe the more likely it to happen. He set the top back onto the cauldron and looked around the room.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
She looked at the board clearly and immediately began to do the recipe. It seemed simply enough, and it made her think of Muggle cooking, something that she had a fondness for.
She began adding six fangs to the cauldron and then from there she worked through it like a recipe. She forced herself not to hum, because she did not want to bother anyone with her frivolity.
"Incendio!" she murmured and the cauldron was alight.
She made sure it to be 250 and after ten seconds, and waved her wand as the board had said.
Looking up at the board she noticed that it was now the waiting game and sat down looking at the potion looked green and she smiled knowing soon it was going to be blue....if she did it right.

Leshia and followed everything that the board had said. She was hoping that since Tabi was no where near her maybe she could do this. She had just set the cauldron for the 45 min wait period when she heard salina whisper to her.
"Have you ever gotten in trouble before? I haven't. It's more Corinne's thing,"
Leshia could not help but laugh at what she said. "Its the same at my house too, Tabi one minute seems nice and sweet and then the next the claws come out. Just like what she did to that Alice girl.'

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Charlotte smiled, although the antics of the class around her were slightly amusing she really did just want to get on with her work, so, when the Professor set the work that she was required to do Charlotte jumped at the chance and hurried away to the cupboard to get the ingredients that she was required to get, the dried nettles, the six snake fangs, with a slight grimace the horned slugs and then the two porcupine quills.
Scribbling down the ingredients Charlotte set to works and she carefully added the snake fangs to the mortar like instructed, making sure that once she got started grinding the pestle to them they were nice and fine like the recipie had stated. Using one of her measures, which she hoped were right, Charlotte added four of them to the cauldron.
With a small mouse of concentration she bent down and adjusted the heat on her cauldron to 250, standing back and waiting ten seconds, taking out her wand she waved it uncertainly around the cauldron.
Wait for 45 minutes?! Sighing Charlotte made a note of the time and decided to write up the ingredients list and also the method for brewing neatly.
After that was done she picked up the horned slugs with her fingers, grimacing once again at the horrible sensation that they sent across her fingers once they were picked up, wiping her hands on her robe afterwards Charlotte consulted her recipe. Biting her lip Charlotte lifted the potion off the hear onto a tripod.
Charlotte added two porcupine quills to the mixture and smiled, taking her ladle she mixed the potion five times clockwise just like the recipe said and with a final wave of her wand completed the potion, smiling happily Charlotte sat back and looked over her completed potion.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Tabi was glad the 45 mins were up so she could finish the potion. She had glanced down at the book to make sure that she was doing excatly how the book and teacher told her too, even though her dad had taught he a easier way. She was not ready to cause those problems yet.
After glancing at the book..the 45 minutes was up so she added the horned slugs, then turned off the heat, she did not want and exploding potion when she added the quills.
She remembered a time where she had done that to her sister and her sister got into a whole lot of trouble she was basically kicked out of the lab for awhile. Tabi just had to smile at that thought.
So after the heat was off she added the quills then stired 5 times clockwise, then waved her wand over the cauldron to complete the potion. From her stand point she thought the potion was perfect but she would have to wait and see.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
During his 45 minutes, Parker was skimming through his Potions book, very interested in what he was reading. He almost got too absorbed when he heard other people start with the second half of the potion. He looked up then set the book aside, taking off the top. He reached down and grabbed at the slimy horned slugs, dropping them into the cauldron all at once with a slight grimace.
He grabbed the next ingredient, not looking to the directions for what seemed like the millionth time, confident he'd be getting this right. He'd forgotten though, to turn off the heat. He held the quills in his hands, dropping one into the cauldron, setting off a nasty hissing noise and a large amount of smoke. He stopped and looked around, noticing that no one else's potions were doing the same.
He nearly panicked, looking at the directions then at his cauldron, realizing he'd not turned off the heat. He quickly set to do so, which seemed to calm the sounds and smoke coming from the cauldron. He let out a sigh of relief.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Seeing his forty-five minutes were up, he picked up the four horned slugs. Slightly grossed out and slightly smiling at the gooey sensation, he placed them in the cauldron. After making sure to read the directions, he removed the cauldron from the flames. He blew out the fire.
Grabbing the two porcupine quills, he placed them in the cauldron. He grabbed the stirrer and placed it in the cauldron, at the point farthest from him. At 12 o'clock. He stirred to the right, while mentally reciting a tip he learned from a friend he knew. 3...6...9...12, 1, 3...6...9...12, 2, 3... When he reached five, he removed the stirrer from the cauldron and waved his wand. The potion was finally complete. He set his equipment aside after cleaning it for the next class. Sitting down in his chair, he waited for the professor to come by and check his potion. He hoped he did it right.

Pxyis looked up from skimming through her potions book to see that her 45 minutes were up, and so she quickly got straight back to work. She picked up a horned slug. "1," she dropped it into the cauldron. "2," she dropped another one in. "3, and 4." She placed the last two in and looked back up at the board.
She took her cauldron off of the heat it had been brewing on like it said on the board and continued on to the next step. She added 2 porcupine quills to the cauldron, followed by 5 clockwise stirs. She was excited to complete her first potion, and as she waved her wand over the potion to complete it she leant back with a satisfied smile. The potion looked how it said it should in the book and she felt very proud of herself for completing it.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Leshia had done great so far with her potion. When the 45 minutes were up she was so glad so she added the horned slugs and then made sure to turn off the heat to her cauldron, so there would be no mistakes. She believes that the last time she made this potion was the time her sister blew it up in her face.
So after the heat was off she slowly added the porcupine quills, then with the 5 clockwise turns. The something fell of the table which cause Leshia to bump the table causing a wrong stir. She had never done something like this before but when she looked down the potion was a weird shade of green.
She went ahead and waved her wand over the potion, there was no way to save it now.
Leshia just hung her head and had a small tear slide out, which she quickly wiped.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Finally, the 45 minutes of brewing time were up and Salina was free to move onto the next steps. She looked up to see how everyone else was doing, and everyone had either finished the potion or was finishing it off. She looked sideways to see Leshia turning off the heat and so she jumped into motion.
Salina picked up one of the horned slugs, when the table was bumped by Leshia and she dropped it into the cauldron, not that it mattered. She added the other 3 quickly, before taking the cauldron off of the heat and adding the porcupine quills. Salina then began stirring it clockwise. "1, 2, 3, 4 and 5." Salina murmured as she stirred it, before stopping and looked up to see what else.
Salina waved her wand once over the potion and was delighted to see that it was how it should looked. She turned to share this exciting news with Leshia, but saw her downcast expression and the green-ness of her potion. Salina sighed and pointed her wand at Leshia under the table, covering her mouth casually as she muttered, "Petrificus Totalus." And watched as her friend froze in her downcast position. She had learnt that at Uresla of course, and then whilst the teacher's back was turned she swapped their potions.
"Finite Incantatem." Salina flicked her wand at Leshia under the table and glared at Leshia in case she decided to cry out in outrage- that's if she'd even noticed at all.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Leshia could not believe that Salina did that for her, that was the nicest thing anyone has ever done.
Leshia was a little surprised when she got frozen and watched helplessly while Salina switched around their potions. I mean being frozen I can still hear and see what is going on around her.
"Thank you, you shouldn't have done that." Leshia Whispered "But why, I would have taken the backlash"

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
She was done! She was so proud of herself. It seemed that potions wasn't at all that bad, rather it was one of the easiest potions, (not to mention first) one that she had ever completed. She looked at the color, it was a beautiful blue and she knew it was fine.
She looked around seeing more and more people getting their potions and succeeding perfect. Though at the corner of her eye she did see that some cheating was occurring with the Ravenclaws. She didn't care, for they didn't matter to her and instead waited for the professor to tell her whether or not she did fine.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
She walked around and nodded seeing that more and more students were getting it right.
"Very good students, you have all done a good job. Lesson ended" she said smiling. "And as for my Ravenclaw girls....since I cannot give you detention yet, ten points will suffice to be taken away from Miss Prewett and Miss Girard."
She wiped the board and nodded satisfied.

Re: Lesson Three: Potions
Leshia couldn't help but lower her head. Ravenclaw was so going to be in the hole in points already. Salina and her had to find a better way of being sneaky about things so they don't loose anymore points.
